How to enable Stanley's magical zoom abilities.
By Bat-Country
So... youre walking trough your office complex like every day.

You stumble upon that interesting paper laying on the floor or see that screen showing some text.

But your poor eyesight hinders you from properly reading it?
You already tried everything? Put on glasses? Try to find the zoom key? Use the console to bind +zoom to a key just to find out its disabled like +jump? Oh poor Stanley...

...you don't have to suffer anymore! Just read this guide which is in fact shorter than the comprehensive introduction you just wasted your time with by reading it! Now, don't waste any more time and make yourself happy to hunt down all those easter eggs and hidden background information!

Enable Developer Console
Right click on the game in your library, go to Properties, click Edit Launch Settings and enter

-console

into the text field.

Click okay, close all dialogs. Start the game.
Emulate zooming with cl_fov
No cheats required! Completely undetected and absolutely virus free!

For a no-brainer, just paste this line into your console and press ENTER.
(we will guarantee you that the weird clicking noises coming from your harddisk are totally normal and you won't get your private photos published on your steam profile)

bind MWHEELUP "cl_fov 40"; bind MWHEELDOWN "cl_fov 90"

What will it do? Well this... is a miracle!

But let me try to explain it anyways:

cl_fov sets your field of view for the camera viewport.

A FOV of 90 is the default FOV for widescreen monitors and something around 75 is default for 4:3 screens... it is measured in degrees.

The smaller the field of view angle is, the less you can see of your environment, meaning that the little bit that youre just able to see is noticeable larger than compared to seeing a lot.

Mousewheel up will decrease the FOV and lets you "zoom in".
Mousewheel down will increase your FOV and lets you "zoom out".

You can adjust the values to your liking. Remember to set the value for zoomed out to the value you set in the game settings. (You can check that by typing "fov_desired" in the console)
Thats it!
Thats it! Really, thats everything!

Oh, thanks for your credit card number and phone number of your ex-girlfriend by the way!

See you later,

your friendly narrator...

If it doesn't remember it for you and you want it at a certain zoom permanently you can type this: bind <forward key> "+forward; cl_fov <FoV/zoom level you want>"

no need to, you only need to enter it once and it will be saved in your user config file. if you use binds only

Can I put this into an autoexec.cfg so that it always happens automatically?
