Out of range...

Description
Range of what? You'll see... or not.

Note: It's rather an experimental than entertaining map.

This experiment is a FAIL! When I start the chamber I can hear a constant thudding sound against what I assume is a hidden switch which is going at 300 thuds per minute. So whatever sound you want players to find is ruined by that. Second, if a player were to repeatedly toss the cube into that gap after multiple tries only to find out that it is pointing in the wrong direction will infuriate that player like nobody's business. I would've used the gravity beam to push the cube into position, that's how it's done. Third it is good practice for players to see what the buttons, switches, etc. actually do to keep them involved and go "OH!" and keep them interested. Obscure activations bore players.

So there you go. My opinion on this map...hope this info helps you make better ones.

I don't remember hearing any sound from a laser emitter. Chances are I wasn't wearing my headphones, so I only can hear faint noises from the desk. Even that doesn't have to be a clue. A laser emitter could be part of the behind-the-scenes logic or in another room. One time I was stuck in a puzzle because I thought I needed a funnel at that moment and I could clearly hear one, so I kept searching to unveil its location. Turns out the funnel was part of the next puzzle in the next room that was only accessible after solving the actual one, in a different way.

I still think it's solvable. You can hear laser emitter switching on and off (also glass and map title are suggestive) After passing the first part, you should guess that you have to throw "something" through the laser field. But, as I said, it's experimental map. Thanks for opinion.

I soon lost my patience and started to noclip through your map, only to discover that I would have had to guess that there was a lasercube in an unreachable spot and a button in an area out of sight. That's not the way to go I was thinking to myself, and edited my map to make it a bit more user friendly. I wouldn't want a player to noclip through my map after five minutes. I called the map "Obscurity" nevertheless. ;)

Well, that wasn't much feedback for you, I just wanted to write down my thoughts.

This map gave me some food for thoughts. Not specifically about this map but about design in general. You say it's experimental, so I won't criticize it. I was working on a map in which part of the intention was to mislead the player by obscuring things. Your map showed me that I have to be careful how far I take this obscurity. When you hide things you often start to annoy the player, but when forcing actions based on things that are out of sight and unknown to the player, that's a whole other quality.

Well, I accidentaly discovered something while playing with lasers in editor...

Laser beam goes through reflector cube which redirects it to the laser catcher. Activated catcher deactivates emitter. I don't know why, but this makes beam invisible.

wow very nice, i found the solution now. but how did you managed that the laser switches on when the cube drop there?

I assure you that it's possible. But I'll try to make a walkthrough video later.

And look at the title. Something may be "out of range".
