Description
The goal of this mod is to make universe generation a little less "static", mixing more vanilla world types into each star, removing the default difficulty tiers from most planet types and more.
As with it's original form, servers should be able to run this mod without requiring clients to subscribe.
Also like the original UGO, this mod is not compatible with Frackin' Universe!
Due to changes in universe generation, this is also incompatible with Geek's Starter Planet.

Creating a new universe is not necessary for this mod to take effect, however any systems previously seen on the navigation panel and any universe chunks previously generated will not be affected by this mod. If you wish for most/all of your game to be affected, see the Universe Regeneration discussion.

What This Mod Does
For more details, see the Documentation discussion.
  • Removes planet-type difficultiy and replaces it with random generation: Now most planets will randomly select difficulty on generation. Want an "Unreal" forest with solarium ore? How about a "Moderate" frozen ocean? How about two different midnight worlds with different difficulties (see the screenshots!)? It's all possible! (Garden worlds, tier 1, have been left vanilla for player start generation reasons)
  • Adds additional orbits to system generation: Allows for more total planets per system.
  • Allows for up to Tier 7 planets: Hunt down "Unreal" planets for a bit more challenge.
  • Enables the "Moon" planet type: Found in vanilla files, allows primary planets to generate with moon biomes.
  • Adds variable weather generation each planet-type: Also allows a few appropriate weather types on planets that previously did not allow them.
  • Adds variable gravity, with ranges assigned per planet size
  • Increases the range for possible day length: it's now possible to have very long or very short cycles.
  • Enables "very small" size for moon and barren biomes

This mod is "unsubscribe safe!" Unsubscribing from this mod will not cause any loss of player, planet, or universe data. Any planets or systems altered by this mod will remain altered after the mod has been unsubscribed unless you regenerate your planets or universe.

Version 2.0 Notice
Due to some discovered limitations and issues with 1.4.x, generation of "verysmall" satellites of biomes other than moon and barren, as well as "small" planets in general, had to be removed. Existing universes will remain perfectly playable, though you may see some issues with "verysmall" satellites using planetary biomes. It is [strongly recommended[/b] to start a fresh universe after this update.

Mod Recommendation
UGOR is fully compatible with More Planet Info, which comes highly recommended as it displays values for gravity, day length, planet size and difficulty.

Attribution
Ruko: For creating the original Universe Generation Overhaul, and allowing me access to the files to be reworked.
Weazel: For additional work done on the original Universe Generation Overhaul.

Alternate Version
If you would like an "easier start", closer to vanilla but still retaining some features of UGOR, try Universe Generation Overhaul Reborn: Gentle Start. Planets around gentle stars do not exceed Tier 2 (moderate) difficulty and will not be of any biomes requiring an EPP (unless you count oceans).

Non-Steam Versions
Nexus Mods links removed in protest of recent changes removing creator rights.

Will there be content in the future that existed before when the mode was from the repository? Like the different stars and systems?

very small planets don't seem to spawn in my newly made universes. Anyone else had a similar issue?

Cool mod! Is there a way to make it compatible with "Geek's starter planet"?

Wonderful mod. Quite impressive.
I've got some friends I play with, and they love some of the features such change in gravity, new and different weather, and different kinds of satellites (aka moons). I personally loved starting on a lush world that happened to be one of the two moons of a forest world.
Problem is, they preferred the regular tier system.
Is there a version of this mod that has all the new diversity mentioned above, but with the old tier system?
I checked out there, but maybe I'm blind or just am hitting the wrong tags.
Thanks again for this and all your other awesome work!

I awared this Mod.
Both for its simple yet adventurous nature that it can offer you, the varied planets can make unique and interesting options
plus the idea of being easily removable without any issues or troubles.
Thank you again for this one
It's often a bit hard to find however
but thanks anyway!
