I played Far Cry 2 back on the Xbox 360 and enjoyed it but never completed it. So here I was trying to play the PC version to finally complete the story. Sadly as much fun the game play may be fun or decent the story is, this port is a mess. Just as other players have stated this port is very buggy and somewhat broken (for some players not all). During my time I have experienced so many crazy glitches and bugs.

CONS (Glitches/Bugs/Other Issues)

- Character models constantly glitch when they talk to you, they may glide all over the screen back and fourth not allowing you to complete dialogue.

- I have witness NPC's just teleporting to the sky and falling to their deaths (which was pretty funny).

- I have found enemies glitched in rocks or buildings.

- Sometimes the audio would cut off or NPC's dialogue would start over and over again never continuing.

- NPC's when approached would have their heads nodding NO continuously while they talked which would break the immersion.

- When passing an outpost or a group of enemies that would chase you, for some reason their vehicles are 3 times faster than any vehicle that you drive (even if you drive the same one as them) making running away not really an option as they hunt you down.

- Enemies have almost perfect accuracy at times. (they will shoot you and almost always hit you from so far away with a AK or even a shotgun).

- Enemy Outpost respawn is a bit too fast IMO making traveling from one area to another tedious or even annoying at times.

- Sometimes enemies can feel like they are bullet sponges.

- BUT THE WORST OF ALL IS THE CONSTANT CRASHING OF THIS GAME. As I write this review I was determined to finally complete the story and push past all the negative glitches and bugs but sadly my game crashed and when I re booted the game back up my save file had been deleted thus making all the progress GONE FOREVER.

PROS

- The game play is fun taking on mission and trying to complete them in different ways is always interesting.

- The buddy system is decent (where they will give you a extra objective during missions to earn benefits or new gear) and if you fall in battle they will come save you giving you another chance before getting a game over (this also works the other way where you can save your buddies from death as well or leave them to die).

- The healing mechanic is cool (when your player is really hurt an animation will play when you see them doing something crazy like popping a bone back into place or removing a bullet from their leg or arm.

- After a while guns wear down and they become rusted or they even jam up when your try to reload or shoot (and eventually they will just break completely) Thus making you need to find new weapons or buy new ones.

So I wont be playing this game again or at least not for a while, once again FAR CRY 2 is a great game it just this port at least for me was a hot mess. Def pick this up when it is on sale but be warned hopefully you do not run into the crazy crap I did.

You have malaria. Your guns degrade, jam, and fail you at the worst possible moment. The world is out to get you. Yet somehow, the game is absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is immaculate, the enemy AI is intelligent and engaging, and the game has far too much attention to detail for such an old title. The real shining point of the game is its combat. You can use fire to burn enemies out of their position, shoot an enemy in the leg so that their buddy tries to rescue them, use hit and run tactics, confuse the AI and listen to it call out in terror, and do all of your other mercenary fantasies. Plus, if you want to change any features that don't measure up to the rest of the game (I.E. bullet sponge enemies on the hardest difficulty and too fast checkpoint respawns) you can just install a mod (maybe try Realism + Redux). Overall, a hidden gem. I strongly recommend it.

A game full of unused potential in a unique setting. Atmosphere and setting make this game interesting, everything else though is a big letdown. The sound mix is useless from time to time. The voice actors do a terrible job and sound like you put a YouTube video on 1.5x speed. Traversing the world is slow and annoying as there are enemies everywhere and no matter how many times you clear those checkpoints/ outposts, they are back after like 20 minutes. Enemies are too bullet spongy for my taste, requiring almost an entire magazine of the silenced pistol to die as long as you do not hit the head. The weapon durability mechanic is more of a gimmick than a mechanic, as is the malaria. Finding diamonds to buy weapons and upgrades takes wayyyy to long and the upgrades are not that good. Exploration is not rewarded, you should only ever visit a location if you have a mission active telling you to. Technically it is a rather pretty game for its time, sadly the pc version requires effort and modding to be playable somewhat properly. All in all I can not really recommend this game anymore. 2 out of 5 stars.
