TL;DR:
Getting Over It is probably one of the most unique experiences in gaming due to how well it introduces philosophy in the game, through the quotes and the way the world is built, taking inspiration from famous philosophers, specially Nietzsche.

GETTING OVER IT

This game is a very unique experience. At first, it seems like a simple rage game that doesn't have any more depth to it, combined with the apparent laziness of the way the world is constructed, consisting of random assets from the unity store morphed into one big mountain. And superficially, this is what Getting Over It is. Something stupid. But if you look deeper into it you'll realize why this game is built like this and why it is such a pain in the a$$ to play.

Getting Over It has at points certain quotes from relevant people in history and comments from Bennett Foddy, a english philosopher. (who is the creator of the game) Now, if we view the game superficially these quotes are just used to taunt and mock the player, i.e there's a comment Bennett Foddy makes if you fall, which is "I'm bashing your dreams and dashing your hopes, you're climbing a mountain with a hammer and no ropes." However, if we analyze the game more rather than a "simple" rage game, it is a very well constructed philosophical torture that makes you think for a while about life.

Getting Over It, i believe, is constructed around Nietzsche's Absurdism, which is a belief that humans life in a chaotic universe without purpose, and that we find purpose in finding that purpose. This game does a good job in transmitting Nietzsche's philosophy through everything. The way the world is built, the character (Diogenes, another philosopher) and why he hikes a mountain of trash with a hammer all have a purpose. Bennett Foddy indirectly says that the reason of all of this is about life. He says that we build a large mountain in life, constructed of everything we've done in our life that could be considered as a goal in life. And what's at the top of the mountain? The purpose of life. Fulfillment, why are we in this world, the answer to all our questions. In the game it's represented as a gigantic pile of trash that we have to climb through until the end. And what is at the end? A chatroom with other people who have completed the game. This is why i believe this game shares so much with Nietzsche's philosophy. However, we could consider what is at the end as a representation of sorts of Heaven, being with other people who also hiked the mountain at the top. Whichever representation you like, the message stays the same. Nietzsche's Absurdism, There's no purpose in life, and that's why...
