A pretty solid gameplay prototype for what it is. Just don't go into this expecting it to be Half-life Alyx levels of polish (given that this is a free mod, this is an entirely reasonable expectation).

A few things I'd recommend for future iterations:
- releasing the slide when reloading the pistol felt a bit clunky. I'd recommend allowing the player to release the slide with their thumb (similar to Half-life Alyx), or pull the slide manually. Alternatively, I would remove the slide release feature entirely.
- Having to manually pick up ammo makes sense in a more slow paced VR title, but Half-life 2 was designed to be fast paced. I recall a section in route canal where I was on the run from a couple of metro cops when suddenly I had to stop to pick up a medkit on the ground. The devs might be able to find a compromise here by having certain items be picked up on player impact while others need to be manually picked up.
- Having more in-game objects be interactable in VR would be nice. In particular it would be nice to be able to open doors by pulling the lever rather than positioning my hand near them and pressing the "Use" key. I'm not sure how feasible it would be to implement this in the source engine, or even if implementing features like this would take more development time than it's worth.

It's like they took everything they learned from working on the original Subnautica and made a better game. There's a lot of quality of life improvements, like how the brain coral has been replaced with the oxygen plant, or how the air bladder just shoots you straight up to the surface in a matter of seconds now. The former change had me swimming up to the surface less than I usually would, which is more immersive.

I wouldn't say it's perfect, for one the game gives you way too much titanium and it ends up clogging up your inventory because every mineral outcrop has a chance to drop titanium and scanning wreckages when you already have the recipe will also give you titanium. At some point you'll check your inventory to discover that a quarter of it is just titanium. Oh, and one more thing, why doesn't this game have autosaves? The game will prompt you if you try to quit without saving for a long period of time but I rushed through and missed the prompt so I lost 3 hours of progress last night.

All and all, if you were a fan of the original game I'd give this a go. The environments all look amazing the art team has really outdone themselves on this one. I'm having a lot of fun exploring the new biomes and scavenging materials to upgrade my gear.

Edit: I've been playing for a few more hours and I've noticed another issue with the game: at a certain point it stops being good at telling you where to go. After sabotaging the communications tower you'll be asked to go to Maugerit's greenhouse. But I hadn't found it yet at this point in my playthrough. I was expecting to find it in my beacon manager, similar to how the game had marked locations prior, but when I looked there was nothing there. So I was stuck aimlessly driving around the glacier with only Youtube tutorials to guide me until I found it, and the constant snow storms which would blind me didn't exactly improve the situation.

Bethesda's remastered this game like 3 times now and they still haven't figured out how to remove the framerate cap

Pros:
- I love the gunplay in this mod. You deal a lot of damage but so do your enemies, so you need to be a little more decisive before charging in gun ho. Every weapon has it's place. The ar2 deals a lot of damage but has a lot of recoil and a limited effective range, the shotgun feels super buff but likewise has a very limited range, the smg packs more punch and can hit distant targets but also recoils heavily if you fire it in long bursts.
- The gameplay feels really well balanced. I played through this mod on bad cop to challenge myself and the combat never felt bullet spongey or unfair. This is a fairly delicate balance that a lot of mods or even standalone games can't manage.
- Visually the mod doesn't feature many custom assets/models but it's very creative with what it has on hand. The mapping was very immersively done. The visual cues also seem to be fairly on point so you'll know what to do/where to go.
- This is one of the most creative mods for half-life 2 I've played thus far. The gunplay's unique, the enemies are unique, the location's unique

Cons:
- some of the gameplay elements felt a little un-intuitive. Don't get me wrong, for the most part the maps are easy and fun to explore, but there's a few issues here and there.
If I could name a few (these are fairly minor and not really a huge issue):
- There's a scene where you detonate a dead strider and the car wreckages are stacked in a way that it looks like you
re supposed to climb on them but you just run into an invisible wall if you do.
- In the final fight there's a section where the chamber gets flooded with noxious gas and you need to jump on one of the pillars to avoid dying, but it happens without any warning and I had to die a few times to figure it out. Maybe adding some sort of visual cue like having the top of the pillars flash red or some kind of alarm going off before the pillars rise up.
- I got a little lost in the tunnel section and wasn't sure where to go.

Overall:
This is definitely one of the most creative mods for half life 2 that I've ever played, on par with some of the best mods I've played like Minerva or Mission Improbable. I look forward to seeing what Breadman does next.

Is this a stealth game? I'm not really sure. The game keeps supplying me with ammo, so I would assume going loud is at least an option, but the game punishes you with it's incredibly frustrating gunplay whenever you get spotted. The devs have tried to improve the stealth mechanics by making the AI smarter (aka they actually get suspicious when a bullet whizzes right past their head now) but they haven't given you any tools to help you navigate the map, you have no idea where the npcs are going and they spot you immediately, even if you're just peaking around the corner. To make matters worse, once you kill someone you can't hide their bodies. It's frustrating because I really wanted to like this game, the story's pretty good but the gameplay's so frustrating that I don't even know if I'm willing to suffer through it to see the ending. I've heard it ends on a cliff hanger anyway.

I'm not sure why but I get HORRENDOUS coil whine when I play this game, like I'm not sure which component it is in my rig but it SCREAMS when I get to the main menu. Strangely this is the only game which seems to cause this issue.

It's kind of unstable and broken right now. Plus I've seen a handful of borrowed assets, most of which have broken smoothing groups.
