It's like original game minus interesting story premis and character chemestry, I tried to play it multiple times but could not get it, yet in Somnium Files 1 nor did I play it to finish I did multiple runs for a different endings, thats how much of a difference there is between a storytelling of these two.

One of these games I would not mind giving a high score, yet unfortunately due multiple basic design decisions made by a dev team I simply cannot praise it too high.

For me there are 3 big downsides this game has, let's look at what these would be.

Disappointing story campaign.

Campaign provides 4 missions per faction making it to a 12 missions total, usually in a strategy game you'd expect 12 of these being placed there per race with some really well made cinematics in between important story twists. Here the cinematics are presented but with how bland they are none would even notice if any of them were missing. You either do it right or don't bother at all. Just an image with a head shaking and character speaking which repeats over and over for a whole course of a campaign? Like for real?

Since I mentioned cinematics I think it would make sense for me to speak of the story game covers, I'll be short here, they simply mixed WC3 scheme with GoT thinking that just doing it would do wonders or probably not. It's serviceable and yet forgetful, the characters are there but I don't think I would care about any of them as they're unattractive in any possible way.

That Arthas like girl put to an extreme degree in the Arleon campaign. “I am gonna kill because I think it's a good thing to do with nothing else behind my brain”, and that very trajectory could be seen in other campaigns, like the one with an old guy trying to fulfill his contract killing everyone opposing what he says. He does it for a bit different reason yet it puts his character no much different than the other one as there is a rule made in his head which he follows without any struggle to think whenever it's for good or a bad cause.

There are a whole lot of characters and none of their lines were voiced, one could say - just imagine them speaking! Yeah, it works great for some games, but that's an action paced game, here you only have time to click turn after turn without you thinking too much on what the sound of a character would be and yet it is missing. Nowadays there are AI tools which would not replace a AAA actor but would do a better job than just lines of text being brought to you or characters roaming the map without even a word being split from their tongue.

Balance issues and too much of the same story but put in a different color.

Oh, gameplay, gameplay, gameplay, build your eco, gather your party and fight till no one left around, sounds good right? Tho once you find out the route to victory is pretty much the same for every other race it puts you in a spot full of disappointment. Every race I played has the same pattern for eco, here is your wood and rock, here is your cash gathering building, just build them and survive as the turns pass by. I don't even think any semi-eco strategies would be good, as it's simply too easy to build full eco at first turns to boom and later on take all the fruits you have grown.

There are units presented in each race with an upgrade of that unit having a unique skill to it, which is quite good, but with somewhat 8-10 units a race, I'd always ended up using only 1-2 of them, why? They're simply better than others even without specific character build having the place. 1.
Getting back to those unique skills, they are there, but some of them do more harm than effort, like there is a big multi skeleton thing one of the races has, it can spawn a little unit for a cost of its own health. It will work at times but overall very mixed skill.

Ingame magic. At times it will destroy ass, and another day do little to no damage, overall I think it can get ridiculously strong. To a point there you would not want to play as any other magister but one either buffing your magic or having resistance from one coming from the foes.

Believe me once you get destroyed by magic in this game it will be a lesson of a lifetime, as chances are, you won't be able to recover as it takes time to level up magister without you having exp sharing skill on your main character and without skills being put into magic resistance it all will be lost in a matter of turns.

What would I do with magic? Definitely make it more clean when and why it does more damage as having x3 levels plus a whole ton of items to buff it may get really messy to look at.

Tho as good as it could be, I think it needs a whole lot of spells to bring system to a better place, as no matter which race you'd be taken care of spells will only vary on a magic line you'd build in the end putting you to use the very same magic over and over again as you tend to stick to things you find doing the most.

And the last part. Art. Visuals. Graphics.

Devs did an outstanding job on overall art direction and yet even here it comes to certain flaws.

DEI character design. Simply put everything is either weird or straight up ugly, could you see a straight up beautiful lady or a man here? Nope, here is a bald lady which will be presented on the map with a black man's texture? Funny right? Not so much then 99% of ingame content follows that route. I speak of magisters and unfortunately for me the only win-win character in terms of look would be that cool green armored guy, tho remove they his helmet he'd turned out ugly too I think. If it's a woman, even remotely cute, her body will be mediocre, and if it's a man he is fat, ugly, or weird. I don't want to associate myself with characters like that playing the game and it strongly puts me off. I am not even mentioning how in battles male characters scream like a female, weird right?

In Warcraft 3 no matter which races you had it had a certain perspective, here, it's all mixed, so if these people made Warcraft 3 you'd end up playing as human with an orc’s face.

Getting out of that diverse disaster I'd like to mention unit design. Again lots of things were put straight off Warcraft 3 and WoW, here is your shadow unit roaming fast, here is an acolyte, skeleton, the only missing would be ghoul.

There is no shame in taking good elements of a successful game as a base of a project of your own, and yet when most of these elements were brought from some other universes, what kind of uniqueness will you stand upon? It's a big issue in that game, as it provides very little to no new things when it comes to a unit design. For me personally, the most visually pleasing race would be muslim guys, as their cities do look unusual for an experience I had playing strategy games. 2.

There is very little left to say, so I'll simply mention the soundtrack before we, the reader, would split our ways.

I think it's good, tho again, I would not say it has a specific direction or one of a kind, there are different vibes it has, for example I def heard some of the notes in Pillars of Eternity OST, yet in PoE it was very well blended within it’s OST. Here you could find a few gems, so I would not consider OST to be bad, the game could have more of it, as I played only 45 hours I already heard most of the compositions and games of that genre are meant to be played way more than just beginners 45 hours.

If there was something I could add to a game it would be a better tutorial on in character stats and how they get affected ( I could not find what leadership does in all the ingame learn how to play folder) and the replay feature, at least showing magister on map movement at the end of the match would be cool.

I had fun playing Song of Conquest, but I'd call it a game lacking some true pillars to make it great and whenever devs are aware of it or not only time will tell.

6/10 Maybe their road to greatness has only begun.

P. S. I forgot to mention UI, it's stellar, as simple as that.

There are few cut paragraphs in the comments as the review has size restrictions on it.

In release version of the game they added invisible to player modifiers striking you each 6 secs simply taking out HP as a base difficulty settings.

A way to kill the fun and the game as well.

Another Undertale clone who could not make it.

It's pretty good for the first few hours. Mechanics get introduced story does not seem too dumb, but one little thing changes it all.

If you stay in the middle of screen you may auto win most of the battles, the only positions you'll have to move on are one block on the right or left. The game becomes a middle screen camping and unfortunetly most of bosses don't do a thing to make a player move through the screen. Once I found out about it I directly switched it to highest difficulty and it did not change much, still you win by staying in the middle.

When such game does not make u move on the whole deck it's a killer and it killed it for me.

Get back in the poop undertale clones folder.

This game broke my ass

Now I need to visit a doctor

It was a good day after work, after I installed HD mods I was ready to jump in, the game had a few difficulties which were like easy normal hardcore, I am a shooter veteran so I went for the last one, at this moment the path of broken ass was set.

Game had a nice introduction to mechanics level and after I got through them my journey began. 4 levels on the ship all complete "ez game" I thought myself. But hell who could imagine what the future got prepared there. It came as the lightning. First it was a space ninjas one shooting my char and then the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ROCKET TURRETS got into the action. Placed in every ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ corner of nearby space ship level, ready to put you in a loading screen simulator in a seconds. From that moment the game became a direct sequel to Meat Boy. You get into the door. You die. You repeat.

And once the launchers were ceased I had a brief rest, too bad it was only a preparation for that virgin ass to be smacked. A level on a ship possesed by flash of many where you got to go through an endless wave of one shooting enemies in the most ridiculous and uncomfortable to move location. Oh mama dear god bless the console for cheats. I've added ♥♥♥♥ ton of things in my inventory and abused the heck out of it. It was only a lube for that monster ♥♥♥♥ and I feel not shame teeling about such feeling. You should know. You should be prepared.

Outside from this; great story, visuals ( for the days the game was out) sound and characters, though I preferred the evil chick much btter in her human shape.

Also if you know a solid proctologist phone number drop it commentrasy section, it may be not too late for me.

If I could get an erection from level design when my ♥♥♥♥ would be skyhigh by now. It is exactly what you expect classic FPS to be.

Sometimes it hurts, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ it's damn good. And there is club level too.

Outside from that I'd say gunplay and story are mediocre while everything else is top notch.

Hidden Gem My Ass.
