As a user of Blender for more than a year, I can proudly say that Blender has found a way into my heart. It's simplicity of doing everything it takes to make a model, animation, texture, etc., makes Blender one of the world's best Software. It's also free. Say whaaaaaaat.

Keep in mind, Blender is hard to learn at times, but will eventually become a habit when you practice. If you ever think you need a free software for any of your needs, Blender is the software for you!

@derGeistKrieger search for cgcookie blender basics for a video crash course.

you can also search for the wikibook blender 3d: noob to pro

the wikibook has changed quite a bit since i learned from it (looks like for the better) but it's what got me comfortable using blender and it's interface. after that it's just practice. other tutorials and having fun making things or trying to make things will be your biggest help here. there are a ton of free tutorials to be found.

for tutorials you can always hit up youtube, blenderhub.com , blenderguru.com , and blendercookie.com though not all of blendercookie's content is free.

@miva2 i find it much more simple to use. maybe not as simple to learn but once you learn it.

i've been watching professional tutorials for other programs to learn various techniques. all the basics are the same so if you know your program more often than not it's pretty easy to translate what they're doing over to a differnt program but the way they have to do some things in these other programs just seems so round about and slow compared to what i'm used to. especially when modeling.

the amount of time they spend breaking up their workflow by having to go through menus and other such things was kind of dumbfounding to me after being a blender user for several years and then finally seeing how people use these other programs. it's hard not to think the tutorials are painfully slow sometimes because of it.
