An excellent remake of a great RPG. As I grew up on the original Dragon Quest (Warrior) trilogy, I might be a little biased, but they're still my favorites of the entire series. While not imbued with the type of story telling the Final Fantasy series is known for, DQIII possesses all the solid mechanics and bearing of a JRPG hallmark, and is well worth the time.

A wonderful addition to the Metroidvania genre that really goes back to the classics for inspiration. Story, environment, and exploration really share the spot light with combat in a way not seen all that much these days, where everything's either rogue-like or souls-like.

This is just the kind of game I was looking for. Great job, devs ^_^

This game is simple, contained, and far more fun than any such game should be.
The concept is straightforward - control a party of up to four characters and clear random, mini-map style dungeons by either fighting enemies or finding items/buffs, and eventually killing the floor boss. Each defeated floor has a chance to unlock both a new character and a new piece of craftable gear. Once you're stronger, you go challenge the 'Chessmaster' to a fight.

Rinse, repeat.
Simple, minimal, and sounds like it'd get dull and repetitive fast.

And yet.
The combat is simple genius, and I know I'll be taking some lessons away from it, both from the combat style itself and the varieties of characters. There's so much hidden here in such a little game - but don't take my word for it. It's free, and a small download, go try it out for yourself. It's worth it.

Edit:
BEWARE the Dailies! Dailies for everything XD

Otherwise...
An excellent MMOARPG - regardless of which of those two genre's you like more, just be aware that elements of both sides exist, with more from the MMO side of things. Excellent combat with fun skills, many of which have choices that change how they work. A ton of classes, with more on the way - though yes, the gender locking is unfortunate.

Really, I have no complaints so far. There's just so many different things to do in the game. Sure, I'll complete them all eventually and be left with the basic gear grind of raiding, but there's a very 'long' way to go to get there, and I'll have more than gotten my time and money's worth during the trip.

P.S. - Dailies have ruined it for me, though that's partially combined with dabbling in mobile games also being chock full of daily tasks.

First thing, take the game for what it is - an action combat, loot and leveling based game with tons of Marvel fanservice. The campaign was honestly enjoyable for me and I looked forward to working through it, which I almost never do in co-op loot games. The banter between heroes, while not super common, is a fun bit of flavor that makes you look forward to elevator rides just to see what they say.

Combat, which accounts for so much of the game, is a solid experience, with a dodge/parry system that really gets you into the moment. Yes, there's a 'ton' of knockdown/knockback in late game, primarily in Wakanda, and it can be frustrating in the extreme. Really nailing down the dodge/parry system helps, and while it's not a great additional solution, getting a Jarvis Barrier on your gear will alleviate much of that problem (again, especially in Wakanda XD).

Yes, the real money marketplace is quite expensive for additional costumes, nameplates, emotes, and takedown animations, but there are numerous you can get with in game currency or earn as well.

Biggest problem? Game needs more heroes *laughs*. This isn't Marvel Heroes Omega, but we can dream!

An intriguing RPG and a 'much' improved experience from the original version - just remember to tick the 'faster battle animations' box in the options!
I'm enjoying the characters, story, and overall game in a way I haven't for any RPG in a long time. Assignable stat points, upgradeable skills, and gear you craft to improve instead of buying/finding replacements for. There's lots of little bits that thought clearly went into how they would work best, not just how they've always been done in other games.

Definitely recommend to fans of traditional, true RPG's.

A very enjoyable ARPG.
Anyone who's played other such games will instantly recognize many elements, yet they're all handled slightly differently. A talent grid similar to Path of Exile, but much more manageable; skill modifies like Diablo 3's runes, but more plentiful. All skills can be learned, though their usage is tied to equipped weapon types, and while the game does seem to favor hybrid builds due to the Willpower/Rage resource tug-of-war mechanic, there are ways to make more pure character styles - just perhaps not until you work through the talent grid a bit.

As someone who doesn't care for the Titan Quest/Grim Dawn talent system, and doesn't care to rebuild and relearn my characters in Path of Exile every time I go back to try and play it, Wolcen is a fantastic option. Don't regret the purchase at all.

A very solid development engine for starting game devs or basic prototyping. Even released games from this software 'can' be good. It does suffer from performance issues, depending on how you run things, and will never be as good as full engines like Unity, Godot, Unreal, etc - but it's sure a heck of a lot easier to use.

Try it, learn it, and you'll find a use for it.

If Chasm isn't the game you wanted, then you didn't want a Metroidvania.

Chasm is the epitome of everything that makes the genre what it is - exploration, fighting through halls of enemies, getting gear to open up more exploration, panicking to reach that next save point to heal. Admittedly, much of the content development seems to be focused around the procedurally created environment, so if you're not interested in replaying the game, or in it being layed out differently each time, then you may not get as much out of this game as others. Still, a solid 8 hours for a Metroidvania is nothing to brush aside (and that's just for some. Still plenty of game left after I passed that mark).

And the controls... exactly what I feel they should be. Responsive, predictable, and smooth. Full control of your jumps and different weapon types with varying swing delays - it's like playing Symphony of the Night all over again. I can't comprehend how controls can be a common complaint in other reviews, except when they try to compare to more fast paced, action-y games like Dead Cells which don't use delays, just constant attacks and movement. It depends on what you want to play though - Castlevania (Chasm) or 2D Warframe (Dead Cells).

Story elements are light on the surface, just a basic 'help our townsfolk' on the surface, but includes extra bits of lore about what's really going on underneath littered throughout the dungeons. Definitely not enough for story buffs, but it's interesting enough.

Waited five years for this game, and the only possible disappointment will come when it's time to put the controller down ^_^

Edit:
Okay, so a few other disappointments ;).

Gear is awkwardly paced through the game. By the time you can afford to buy from the blacksmith, you've probably found better from drops or chests. By the time you have enough metal bars to craft gear with the blacksmith, you almost certainly don't need any of it.

Money is similar. In the start when it would be useful, it's hard to come by (understandably so), but once it starts rolling in easier, there's not much to use it on. I bought all the magic spells just because I could, and from there, I imagine I'll burn everything I get off on the random stat increase scroll - since you can apparently buy more then one. Being stronger is good, right?

Well, it would be more so if there was a New Game+ mode. There's only so much point in buffing stats near the end. Maybe it'll get added in the future though.

So all around, I still enjoy the combat and movement style, but that is really the only draw after awhile. Take it as you will.

Old school, 16-bit era RPG with just a ridiculous amount of content and customization for an RPGMaker game. Choose your team of 4 from 8 different classes, choose what stats they gain every level, and choose what skills they learn with gained SP.

Craft recipes from dropped monster loot, fish from docks across the map, get caught looting chests in cities and fight guards for the treasures.

If you like RPG's at all, you need to give this a try. And with their 'expansion' coming soon, and Last Dream 2 in the works, there's more to look forward to.
