I recommend this if you can read/listen to Chinese, as well as use a couple mods to accelerate the game.

You cannot skip to the end of a sentence so you are forced to skip the entire cutscene, or listen to the whole conversation. For some sections of the game, this can be up to an hour of a singular cutscene.

I would say this game was around 90% cutscenes, 10% gameplay.

The fights are cool at first since it's more Action RPG style versus turn based, but later on in the game it becomes a huge pain to manage heals, especially as the enemies become bullet sponges and have huge HP (150K+), at end game I did around 1200 damage a hit.

4/5. The story is pretty good, at times the game plays out like a really long soap opera/drama versus a game. Towards the end though it was getting a bit convoluted as there's so many macguffins being chased and deus ex machinas taking place. Similar issue to Gujian 1.

2/5 Not much game to be played in the end. The quest management system is neat (you won't miss core story/side quests), but there are still missables. Also there's a chest bug, I posted it in the walkthroughs. There is joystick control in this game, I played it with mouse/keyboard, Steam controller, and even on my phone through SteamLink/RemotePlay and it went smoothly.

3/5 It's a good effort, but honestly not a very good game in the end. The prompt asks "Would you recommend this game to other plays", my answer is yes. But it's not a great game.

The majority of fans would say skip it and go straight to the 3rd one (Gujian 3).

This game is like 80% cutscenes, very difficult to understand if you don't understand Chinese.

Also very grindy, bosses have a ton of HP while you do really low damage. As the guy said below there's an easter egg to unlock OP weapons, which breaks the balance of the game. See walkthroughs for more info.

Make sure to do the secret "True Ending", which has lots of missable quests.

I didn't bother with the achievements, they're kind of a waste of time in this game, requiring an insane amount of time.


4/5 The story is pretty good, a unique interpretation of some folklore/religious history bringing in deity elements as well as mysticism. There is a heavy amount of macguffin chasing, and of course as with all Chinese RPGs, excessive Deus Ex Machina. The story though ties together pretty well, even with these obvious elements.

3/5 Mostly just spamming AOE spells in fights, fights take a really long time due to startup/winddown animations, so you just try to get through it. Also enemies eventually become damage sponges.

4/5 This is a good competitor to Xian Jian and Xuan Yuan, I recommend those new to the genre give it a shot, maybe use some mods to play it on easy mode because it's exhausting to play the game as is.

Awesome game, strongly recommend.

Some cases needed walkthrough assistance because the logic was just super convoluted. Otherwise the whole series was a lot of fun!

Game does not work in Windows 10; also it's so convoluted it's not worth trying.

As of August 2023 the game works now, run it in Casual/Remastered mode. It actually looks pretty good.

It's basic for a P&C Adventure Game, but I appreciate the developer's efforts in fixing the issues.

Game does not launch by itself on Win 10 1903 (resolution bug so it just crashes to desktop).
