Oh, about that? That's a bug with TFMV. In order to fix it, you have to make sure that the tfmv_bg.mdl submodel is located ABOVE your item's submodel (check from the "Unload Weapon" menu on "File").

Unload both submodels, load "tfmv_bg" from "tf/custom/TFMV/models/TFMV/tfmv_bg.mdl" first, then your item.

Also note that if using HLMV++, paints with TFMV won't work as HLMV++ reads from colortint_base and not color2, but that can be simply fixed by clicking the item's material on TFMV, so it will open on Notepad, and you simply copy the values from color2 to colortint_base, save, and refresh.

There was that issue with the backgrounds (the automatic transparency wouldn't work in this case because TFMV sets the background color to generate the mask via a shadeless colored sphere (cube?) that the webs render behind), but the bigger issue was that the webs would also render behind any other models parented to the player (e.g. shirts, weapons, etc). In hindsight, I probably could have done the closeups with proper transparent materials and only used alphatest for the loadouts, but hindsight is 20/20. At this point, I'm not sure it's worth the effort to update the promos considering the items have likely already been selected anyhow.

Sure thing. Would that be in regards to the item disappearing on white backgrounds? You can always take shots on a black background, use magic wand on an image editing program (with 0% tolerance so it only gets 0 0 0 RGB), like Paint . NET, and add a subtle black border so make it looks nice.

Items disappearing on white backgrounds also happen on TF2, so it's not a model viewer only problem. Also, HLMV++ has a built-in screenshot tool that makes it transparent, maybe it could work for your item.

A couple more in-game screenshots can work too.
