SO the mixed reviews are due to the "shifting gears" update. where the story was removed and it was overhauled to focus more on the farming aspect

the legacy mode is available to play so you can see the difference for yourself. in truth i do see the change as an overall positive. a much larger map the ability to make your own fields and a reason to farm more.

as it stands right now what you get is a much more relaxed game, focused more on upgrading your mech to better farm larger and larger volumes of crops, and decorating your homestead to give you a few nice perks. its not a hard game by any stretch of the imagination. just a fun game that borders on just an idle chill game.

its not perfect i do wanna stress that, animals are very basic and abit annoying to get the right ones as its essentially a lotto on what animal you hatch from eggs you find. and the eggs are quite rare making the actual tries to get the animals you want few and far between

but its honestly a solid little title that's getting actively worked on

people complaigning about the legacy version i..kinda get it? but in truth the gameplay loop was dreadfully boring. and it didnt really give you a good reason to actively farm at a scale the game hints at. you go out clear 1 specific biome using either the water cannon or the saw. use the reasources to upgrade both to tackle the next biome, and repeat.

and for like 30bucks standard what you get right now is a decently fun game

im giving this a very hesitant downvote, in reality its more a "meh"

its cool and in the 4ish hrs ive been playing it i just got to space, and its very just...meh?

everything runs on disposable batteries, your guns drills, even your sprint. all run on batteries, and that be ok if you could charge them,. throw down a solar panel or somthing and charge them but no you gotta craft them, and they dont last long at all. making the beginning of the game kinda of a grind. as even the space ship takes batteries.

id like some sorta power system so i dont need to just make endless disposable batteries as i get worried for how quickly ill burn through gradually more expensive battery's as guns are an especially heavy hitter
and the caves are very..empty sadly. it seems the game wants you to rather scan around using the robot to find what you need, which would be find if the ore patches where larger as it takes awhile for the base drone to recharge. so you can only scan every like 3 mins and youll dig up the ore in far less then that. you do have a personal scanner you can spam for finding ore but its a very big energy cost and the range of even the 2nd tier model is...i think 5-6 blocks so spamming that will quickly burn your batteries

some recipies seem abit expensive for what they are, like wires taking like 7 ingots

now things i DO like

its really pretty, like its got a very cute art theme and direction going on, space is really fun to be in

the robot that helps you find ore is a very big help

the ships pretty easy to use and i enjoy how its more or less like legos (id like some kinda shipyard inventory so i can delete the whole ship and restart it so i can redesgin it easier as right now it seems i can only use my hotbar which will cause issue when you use many different colors/styles)

the voices are really funny

dieing is actually really forgiving, you go back to your outpost, which is where your craftbench is, and you keep your inventory but all equipment take damage. which can be repaired for money at outposts

i really see what they wanna do here and i know this game can be good, and its not bad its just really...meh.

Basic at the time of writing but its a fun almost cookieclicker adjacent game, you start small growin plants in a room and eventually your baking sheets of crystal on an industrial scale

check this game out if ya can its currently being sued in a bogus claim for copyright infringment cause its successful so try to support the devs

if you want a stable release then id wait a month or so.
the games very early access now and it does show. but its got alot of great improbments that i want to see developed on

however its abit unstable/un-optimized. Im buying it to support the developer. if you are buying this for multiplayer i would not. its very very unstable in multiplayer

So buyer info
its only one map at the time of writing, the island so keep that in mind

however i gotta be honest here im very much loving this so far. like i havent had the issues of others below but thats not to say that they arnt real. i just cant attest to the poor preformance/bugs myself

theres alot of good QOL updates to the game and it honestly just looks alot better. is it worth nearly 50bucks.....MABEY its hard to say like its good but the flipside is as new maps are added they are (supposedly) gonna be added free. abberation scorched earth etc.

so if ya got the spare dollars and like ark id say go for it. its also only 50 gigs rn as compared to old ark so thats a big reason why i got it myself

a deceptivly deep (heh) game thats hilarious with friends and downright terrifying/panic inducing at othertimes. youll be saying "what the ♥♥♥♥!" alot.

its really good and if ya like atmopspheric stuff then grab it

the original studio was nuked and the devs where sent to the curb killing the game do not buy. supposedly a new studio picked up the license but keep away until some very clear moves are made

i do kinda wish steam had a "eh"suggestion

its not bad, it has issues yea but if your a ksp fan its a nice buy. lots of toys and things to play with and its incredibly pretty to boot. its missing some things from ksp one but i personally have high hopes for its development.
