Introduction & Gameplay Tips
First things first, this guide contains spoilers. As a backer, I got this DLC early and, as such, I have gotten, and beaten the DLC in very short order. So, reading further may spoil the DLC for you. So, if you don't have the DLC or wanted to go into it blind, I suggest you turn back now. For all others, let's get to it.

First things first, what order you upgrade things in is very important. As such, I suggest the following.

Upgrade your platforming abilities first. Getting the Hat to 3 as soon as possible is essential to getting a lot of the Dark Magic. Also, get your Grappling Hook to 3 quickly as well. These two will allow you to get most of the Dark Magic. After them, upgrading Health and Scimitar to 3 is a good idea. Then Bomb Shot, then Cannon Jump. After them, Kraken Ball, then any order you like. Once you get all of the mobility options to 3, you can get everything.

All items will be shown in order of ease of collection, not in order of appearance.

Main Street


REQUIREMENTS: N/A
The first Dark Magic you find will be in Area 2. When you get to the point shown above, shoot the eye to the right to get the platform in the wall to the left to come out. Get on top of it and slide (Hold down and press jump) to get into the room shown below.



Hit the eye in here to get the platform to come back in to slide back out. I suggest saving this upgrade until you get the Hat and upgrade it to Hat 1. You will need the improved gliding.



REQUIREMENTS: Hat
Once you have the Hat and get it to Hat 1 (Hat 0 is possible to get this, but you'll need Hat 2 for the following upgrade.), come back to Area 1 of Main Street. You likely saw this upgrade on your way through the first time, but need to double back for it once you have the Hat. Simply glide to the platforms shown. The jumps are very easy, unless you have Hat 0. Hat 0 is doable, but the timing is very tight.



REQUIREMENTS: Hat 2, Grappling Hook
You will need to have Hat 2 or 3 to get this. Any level of the Grappling Hook will help as well. Firstly, you need to get to the below point.



This is before the restaurant. If you get to that, you've gone too far. Glide over and you'll find yourself here;



Hit the eye and then grapple up onto the platform. From there, glide to the right. You need Hat 2 to make these jumps. Hat 1 may be possible with the grappling hook as a backup, but the timing would be insanely strict. You have to shoot more eyes to make more platforms appear, all of which are on a timer. Keep in mind that if you miss a platform, you can grapple to it from below if you can still see it. Keep moving right and you'll eventually get it.



REQUIREMENTS: Kraken Ball
In Area 1, jump into the second pool of water and go into the pipe to the right. The box is right there.



REQUIREMENTS: Kraken Ball, Grappling Hook
Also in Area 1, jump into the third pool of water and there is another pipe to the right. You'll find yourself in the above room. You cannot see it, but there is a ceiling above you next to the rightern wall, so use the Grappling Hook to get above the wall and just go right for the item.



REQUIREMENTS: Kraken Ball, Bomb Shot
In Area 1, in the first pool from the start, go into the pipe on the left. Just blow up the large block to get the chest.



REQUIREMENTS: Hat 3, Cannon Jump 3
From this chest in Area 2, glide and multijump to the left to get to the chest.





REQUIREMENTS: Cannon Jump
Get to this upper area where you used the Hat and Grappling Hook to get to the upper right. Just use the Cannon Jump to blow up the blocks below you.
Mermaid Falls


REQUIREMENTS: Kraken Ball, Bomb Shot
In the second room of Area 1, go under water and get to the lower left area. You'll see the above with some blocks in the way. Blow them up with Bomb Shot to get to the chest.



REQUIREMENTS: Kraken Ball, Bomb Shot
From the previous Dark Magic, goto the lower right and blow up the block to get into a pipe. The Dark Magic is inside the chest.



REQUIREMENTS: Cannon Jump, Bomb Shot
From this point in the same room, blow up the blocks to the upper left of you, then follow the new path to the left and you'll find the chest.
Tassel Tower


REQUIREMENTS: N/A
In Area 1, you'll come across the above wall. Hit the eye to bring it down, then get on top of it and ride it up.



The chest is right there. Just grab it for another Dark Magic. If you have Hat 3 at this point, improve the Grappling Hook.



REQUIREMENTS: N/A
You'll see this one in Area 2. Just slide in the claim it.



REQUIREMENTS: Hat, Grappling Hook
Also in Area 2, at this point, just before going into Area 3, you can see a platform to the left near the top of the screen. Use the hat to glide near it and then use the Grappling Hook to climb up. Continue climbing up using the Grappling Hook until you get to the top.



Glide to the chest or use the Grappling Hook on the ceiling to get to it. Either way, claim the Dark Magic. This is also possible without the hat if your Grappling Hook is upgraded enough. Grappling Hook 2 would likely do it.
Cape Crustacean


REQUIREMENTS: Hat 3 / Grappling Hook
In Area 2, one of the doors will take you to the above room. Using the Hat or Grappling Hook, shoot the eye to make a box appear in the center. The lasers will occasionally turn off for a brief moment, so slide to get under the block before they turn back on. Wait for the lasers to turn off again, then slide to the other side for the Dark Magic.



REQUIREMENTS: Hat 3 / Cannon Jump
In the final door before Area 3, go into this room. You'll see a wind effect, but you will not be affected by it. With Hat 3 or the Cannon Jump, glide to the other side of the room.



REQUIREMENTS: Grappling Hook
In Area 3, you will get to this point in the second room. Use the Grappling Hook to go up and you'll find a door. Go inside and the chest is right there.



REQUIREMENTS: Grappling Hook, Kraken Ball
In the third room of Area 3, you'll see a platform you can drop through in the floor. Drop down and then run to the right, into a room filled with water. Travel through to the point shown below.



At this point, drop down to find the first chest of Dark Magic. Yes, first. There's two in this room. Grapple back up to the platform you just dropped from, then grapple upwards and to the right until you can go no further. Then, go left to find the chest. You can then drop down to the left of the chest to get back to the entrance of the room.



REQUIREMENTS: Grappling Hook
In the same room as the platform leading down to the previous two Dark Magics, again in Area 3, head up towards the upper left of the room. After a series of three purple platforms, grapple upwards and you'll see the chest.



REQUIREMENTS: Hat
In the fifth room of Area 3, you'll see this one in the lower right of the room. Simply glide to it.
Hypno Baron's Castle


REQUIREMENTS: N/A
In Area 1, after going through the first door, go back through it to get to a hidden room you cannot otherwise get to, shown below.





REQUIREMENTS: Bomb Shot, Grappling Hook
Also in Area 1, before going through the third door, goto the upper right and you'll see a block (not pictured above). Blow it up and go right, dropping down to get to the chest.



REQUIREMENTS: Grappling Hook 3, Hat 3
From the previous Dark Magic, go up and get to the roof. Go right and you'll come across a group of blocks like above. Glide from there to the chest in plain sight.



REQUIREMENTS: N/A
Go through the third door in Area 1. Then go back through the door again and you'll find your way into a dark room. The chest is right there.



REQUIREMENTS: Grappling Hook 3, Hat 3
From this point, grapple upwards and you'll find the chest in a room above you.



REQUIREMENTS: Hat 3, Grappling Hook 3
When you come to this door, stop. This should be the fourth door on the main path. From here, use the Hat to glide and then use the Grappling Hook. This is the only way to get the Grappling Hook to reach the ceiling in the room above. From there, move left a bit for the chest.



REQUIREMENTS: Hat 3
Before entering the boss room, look above it to see the chest. Just move to the platform to the left and glide to it.

Btw it should be noted that upgrading the kraken ball is not a priority. There is simply no benefit to upgrading it past base level since there are no combat situations where the kraken ball comes into play, and upgrading it is not required to obtain any of the dark magic or magic shard chests. So basically any points spent on kraken ball are points wasted as long as you have other stuff to upgrade.

Hat > Hook > Scimitar & Health in whatever order > Cannon Jump > Everything Else > Kraken Ball

Sorry, real life has kept me from finishing this guide. I have some errands to do today, but after I return, I'll finish up all the areas and show the rest of the upgrades.

I can't find the last one in mermaid falls, i serched all the spots in the first area, and i think it is in the second. But i have sercahed everywhere. in all the water parts up high everywhere. Please help.
