What are these heroes?
Heroes are special units that are tougher than the normal units you'll get. Therefore it's not easy to get them. There is card packs that are able to get you these hero units faster but they are expensive. If used these heroes will be able to push through some defenses without as much problems.

Make sure your heroes are defended well. They are not that tough for most of them but they may help with their damage or they can help you in some other way.
Combat Heroes
Specifically for being right on the front-lines and will fight your enemies and nothing else. These heroes are able to assist you in just fighting strength.

The Commando
"If you carried around a gun like that all day you'd have huge muscles too."
Probably a more heavier version of the Machine Gunner, Commandoes offer more rate of fire than normal and since they carry a big minigun, they of course are slow. They can be used for taking down waves of infantry and are slightly able to take down structures down quick if given enough cover.

The Chemist
"This hermetically sealed unit damages and disrupts foes with a poison gas."
A poison version of the Flamethrower unit. They distribute the same effects as a posion barrel would, however as if they were being used as a flamethrower. This is very useful for taking down close-quarters units that are bunched up as the enemy units will be coughing and then dying if they don't get a shot on the Chemist. This however can be counter-acted by the Poison Resist Perk. Structures are not damaged by this unit.

The Bombardier
"A demolition expert, no task too tough."
The Grenadier but with better stats and a salvo rather than one grenade shot at a time. This is what the Bombardier is. They are able to take down a group of units with just one salvo. Like the Grenadier they may shoot over obstacles if they are in range. This is a unit you might want if you want to try finishing off a structure but a wall is in the way.

The Mercenary
"Gun for hire - a seasoned veteran ready for a challenge."
A squad of 2, a Mercenary is very good in damage and accuracy. This suffers however a health penalty. When deployed these troops will be able to eliminate some threats that approach them. Keep them covered and they will be able to deal some damage to heroes with their fast reloads keeping them firing.

The Sharpshooter
"Utilizing a semi-automatic sniper rifle, this unit suppresses enemies at a distance."
Unlike the normal Sniper counterpart, the Sharpshooter is more of a rapid-fire unit that can still dish out many bits of damage if left unchecked. With a suppressor, you may not hear the Sharpshooter during a gunfight.

Support Heroes
These heroes in particular will be able to support your troops, and thus are not as good when alone. Keep these ones more defended than a combat based hero to maximize effectiveness.

The Sergeant
"A well-respected officer - the Sergeant improves damage and accuracy of nearby units."
The Sergeant is the only female unit in the game. However the role that this unit serves is more important. The Sergeant is able to boost damage and accuracy as stated of nearby units. Keep this hero with low damage or low accuracy units to enhance those units to last longer.

The Colonel
"Troops don't question the Colonel's commands and will fight harder to please him."
The Colonel is unique in one respect. He is able to activate his personal 'Focus Fire' and units will respond to obey his order. This will make it easier for those who lack focus fire. Keep him with many troops of any type and he will probably punch a hole in the defenses.

The Surgeon
"The Surgeon can keep nearby units from dying, and even restore most of their health."
The Surgeon is a unit that does not heal normally. But one thing they are perfect for is stopping nearby units from dying. They will stick a syringe into an ally who is about to die and bring them back. This is very handy for keeping other heroes alive.

Suggestions
If you have suggestions for what I should do in the guide or want me to make another guide, I may look at the idea. Please note that base strategies aren't exactly what I am asking for but I may try them out if enough demand I make a guide.

Questions
You may have some questions on these heroes still after this. Feel free to make the question. Be aware I don't actually have any of the heroes besides the Last Stand HQ Card Colonel and a HQ squad with the Sergeant. I go off the Guns Up wiki.
