Dalles Guide
By Cream0weet67
An in-depth explanation on how to beat Dalles. He is an extremely difficult boss. After countless hours of fighting this guy, I figured I'd write a guide to help others beat him. Please note that I wrote this according to the fight on Nightmare difficulty.

First Phase
Note: There is a glitch where you will move slightly faster when jumping to the right against the wall to the south. However, this only works consistently during Dalles’ first phase.

Dalles follows a specific pattern. Throughout his first and second phases, it’s always the same.

1.) He’ll shoot out a whole bunch of meteors and small projectiles that will stay where they land against the edge. This can be easily avoided by simply double jumping towards Dalles.
2.) Dalles will fire a stream of meteors at you. Move against the back wall and run to the side. Double jumping to take advantage of the glitch mentioned above will make this easier to dodge.
3.) Dalles will shoot out projectiles similar to his first attack. They will line up on both sides of you, then home in. Stay against the wall to the south. When they begin to come at you, double jump towards Dalles and they should all go whizzing past.
4.) Dalles will shoot out streams of meteors that will line up vertically above you, then crash into the ground. Don’t stop running and you’ll always avoid them.
5.) He shoots out waves of fire. This can be avoided by double jumping over top with just the right timing. This is much easier if you use wind magic at the peak of your jump.
6.) Dalles drops three chunks of ice on top of you – one large followed by two small. There are two ways to dodge this. The first is to double jump away, then use wind magic in the air. Otherwise, you can take advantage of the above-noted glitch.

Dalles will go back to attack #1 at this point.

You will have a chance to attack after every move except for the ice (#6).

Character Notes

Yunica

Use charged thunder to attack Dalles.

When dodging the ice (#6), it is possible to use thunder magic instead of wind by striking the ground behind you as you land, then jumping away again.

Hugo

Use regular attacks against Dalles. You can use thunder in conjunction to do a bit of extra damage.

It is a good idea to always have a charged shield up. This will both prevent you from taking unnecessary damage and make it easier to dodge most of his attacks.

Toal

Charged fire does a good deal of damage to Dalles. Jump attacks also work very well.

Fire can be used in place of wind to dodge the last two attacks.

Felghana Adol

Use normal attacks and charged thunder against Dalles.

Thunder can be used instead of wind to dodge Dalles’ last two attacks.

Napishtim Adol

Fire seems to be the best to attack Dalles with.

You will gain a moment of invulnerability when using any magic attack. However, you should still use wind to dodge because it allows you to move at the same time.
Second Phase
He will still follow the same pattern of six attacks that he did before but with a few new additions.

  • - There will be two extra minions on either side of Dalles that will shoot at you in conjunction with Dalles’ attacks. They will also fire at you if you move behind Dalles.
  • - Dalles now has a shield that will prevent you from attacking him directly. To remove the shield, you will have to attack it with the proper magic. He will always put up the shields in the order of green, red, yellow – wind magic, then fire magic, then thunder magic.
  • - Once you break a shield, you will be given a set amount of time to deal damage to Dalles. Do not waste time using burst – you will deal more damage with magic and regular attacks.
  • - In accordance with the type of shield, a special attack will be sent out for you to avoid.
  • o Green (wind) spawns two whirlwinds that will slowly home in on you.
  • o Red (fire) sends a swarm of flying fire monsters after you. You can immediately destroy them by hitting them with fire magic.
  • o Yellow (thunder) will send out two or four fonts of dark energy that will constantly keep moving in a diagonal line pattern, then exploding vertically.
As for his six basic attacks:
1.) Double jump over the projectiles and toward Dalles. This will give an opportunity to attack.
2.) After the first attack, run as far away from Dalles as you can. When he shoots the stream of meteors at you, you should be able to side step them with ease.
3.) Stay in the middle, then double jump to Dalles when the projectiles begin to home in, same as before. Be mindful not to touch the extra projectiles from the two minions, however. While they do negligible damage, they can stop you long enough to get pelted by everything else.
4.) Dodging this one becomes a lot more difficult, since jumping is far too dangerous to try. The easy way to avoid the attack is to simply run straight backwards until the meteors are gone. Alternatively, there is usually a gap between where the two minions shoot, allowing you to run straight forward with the right timing.
5.) Same as before. Double jump and use wind at the peak of your jump.
6.) Same as before. Double jump away and use wind or otherwise in the air to provide some extra distance.

Character Notes

Yunica

When the flying flame monsters come after you, run backwards, then jump in the air and throw a charged fire forward. If done correctly, this will destroy the monsters and damage Dalles’ shield.

Hugo

Always have a charged shield on Hugo when taking out Dalles’ green (wind) shield. It can be very frustrating summoning a shield just to have it break and have to wait for your magic to recharge some more.

Try to have a shield already up on Hugo when Dalles transitions from his first phase. The moment he is summoning the two whirlwinds at the beginning is the easiest time to charge at him and deal tons of damage to his shield.

Toal

Use jump attacks to deal the most damage after you break a shield.

Napishtim Adol

Thunder will not home in like it normally does. Instead, you will have to run up right next to Dalles’ shield and use it.

Thunder that isn’t charged deals laughable damage.
Third Phase
You will now have to take out the two minions floating to the left and right before you can attack Dalles.

Dalles’ attacks become random from here on out. He will use any of his six main attacks (dodged the same as described in Phase Two), plus three new attacks.

  • - Dalles spawns a large circle on the ground that pulls you in. Do everything you can not to touch it. This attack is absolutely brutal. If you touch the circle at any point, even while it’s fading away, you will be teleported away. Your boost gauge will be reset and Dalles will proceed to fire a giant death beam at you that you can do nothing against. This attack does so much damage that it might as well be considered an instant kill. While the circle is out, do not jump. Run clear away from the circle. Never use burst. Do not go near Dalles, as lightning spawns near him while making these death circles that can knock you into them. Take care not to get caught on the minions while running and make sure to avoid their attack, as described below.
  • - The minion(s) will flash, then shoot out a spiraling, homing projectile that will leave a small circle on the ground. Coming in contact with it will deal little damage, but will give you the “heavy” status effect. This is especially mean, since it will leave you defenseless against virtually all of Dalles’ attacks. If you get hit by this, try boosting to lessen health loss. Unfortunately, getting hit by this will almost guarantee that you are sucked into one of Dalles’ death circles, so do everything you can to avoid this attack. If a minion uses it while you are running from a circle, you will have to run back toward and around the circle to avoid both attacks.
  • - Dalles will fire a giant laser beam. While it seems extremely annoying at first, all you have to do is move closer to Dalles. Watch for when you see him charging this up. When you do, run straight toward him, then to the side. You can easily run to the side of the laser if you are close to Dalles, but not if you are far away. As a last resort, you can use burst to avoid taking damage. Burst conveniently takes about the same amount of time as the laser does. However, I would only do this if you knew there was no way you could dodge the laser otherwise, as it is very likely you will be hit by the “heavy” projectiles upon leaving burst.
When only 1/3 of Dalles’ health bar remains, he will spawn all 3 of the attacks from Phase Two simultaneously. You will have to dodge whirlwinds, energy bursts, and flame monsters at the same time. The only dodging advice I can give you is to keep running to the side of Dalles. Use boost. Cutting down on damage at this point is crucial, and you’ll probably have your gauge full by now. Don’t take too long. Clearing out the two minions faster means less time you’ll have to run through the mad cluster of death surrounding you.

Character Notes

Yunica

I tended to stick with charged fire for damage. It’s not the most damaging, but it does a nice amount. I found it worthwhile simply for the comfort of having a ranged attack.

Hugo

Once again, always have a charged shield up. It can negate the “heavy” status projectiles, potentially saving your life.

Normal attacks work beautifully against the minions.

Toal

Use jump attacks for damage. They work especially well on this phase.

Use lots of wind magic, preferably charged. It works great for avoiding all of Dalles’ attacks.

Felghana Adol

Use regular attacks for damage.

Use thunder magic for dodging. The distance it gives, on top of guarding, makes it really nice for avoiding attacks. You can also direct your dashes into the minions for additional damage.

Napishtim Adol

Every magic attack seems to work terribly for me.
  • - Wind magic deals decent enough damage, but the pause at the end of it has often proved fatal.
  • - Fire magic deals nice damage, has range, and uses less MP, but still forces you to stand in place while using it, proving fatal.
  • - Thunder magic is convenient because it can home in from far away, but it takes a lot of MP and still forces you to stop to use it. Again, fatal.

Based on this, I tended to switch between fire and thunder. You have to make sure to time your strikes well because all of them make the character stop, allowing Dalles to easily spawn a death circle on you or hit you with the “heavy” status effect. I strictly used thunder for the last 1/3 of Dalles’ health.

There's a checkbox in the options menu for "Always Dash Once Able" that I recommend enabling. You can also double tap a movement to dash.

Hi,

are You sure running to the side is all that's required to dodge vertical meteors? I get myself hit by them almost every time (Yunica Nightmare Boss Rush) and i have a feeling that prior to 3rd phase that's often almost only dmg i take (and enough to leave me with ~70 hp). I trying to run to left and right or occasionally down during the 2nd phase but all to no avail its 30-90 dmg each and every time...

Any advice appreciated

Did you ever figure it out? In case not, make sure you have Silver Bracelet (Inventory item, not Equip), because it allows for faster run speeds via "Dash." You can activate Dash by double-tapping to move, or select "Always Dash Once Able" in the options menu. I prefer the latter option, personally. You can tell Dash is activated if it looks like you have a trail of dust or smoke following you as you run.

Toals Fire Ability ignores Dalles 2nd and 3rd phase shield, just spam the ability in front of him. ;P :reahwink:

"Dalles will shoot out streams of meteors that will line up vertically above you, then crash into the ground. Don’t stop running and you’ll always avoid them"
It's not working for me. I tried 30 times now this boss on Nightmare. I just can't avoid this attack. It always touches me even if i run all the time on the sides or up and down. My Hugo looks really slow compared to Youtube videos of this boss. Is my game glitched or did i miss a specific item?!

For phase 2, using the first secret character, I found that using Boost right before attacking the shield makes a huge difference. Particularly with the yellow shield, this lets you deal significantly more damage (a charged Thunder skill and three non-charged Thunder skills, all with Boost, already take out his shield).

>_< Why am I the ONLY person who managed to glitch the boss so that his initial shield won't break on phase 2?
Berahlen 20 Mar, 2013 @ 2:55pm
The first phase thing to dodge his first string of homing meteors doesn't seem to have anything to do with moving faster. Jumping jukes them upward, and the order they spawn in means they come from the right and have less room to turn toward you if you're also moving right.

Hugo can usually break Dalles's first shield before he has a chance to fire anything beyond the first pair of whirlwinds, even on Nightmare. Also, his Burst is really, REALLY good for the last phase, especially to lead off the last third of the last phase when suddenly the whole field is full of garbage.

Good guide.
