F.A.Q.
Some frequently asked questions. Remember to check out the official F.A.Q. too: http://cs2bus.com/app/291860/discussions/0/142261352656335118/

-Can I recruit units immune to netting?
Yes, the same way you recruit any other unit. The immunity only applies to the snared status in battle.
Protip: A spidaur can also be used to recruit.

-How to save, view, and share replays?
After a match, you can save a replay with the X key. Replays can be viewed from the menu accessed from the title screen, the one with the logo. Clicking a replay will play it. Note that chat isn't saved in replays.
To share replays, press O in the replay menu to open the folder where they are stored. You can then give the files to your friends or share them someplace else. The official Discord server[discordapp.com] has a channel dedicated to sharing replays.
Protip: if you hover over a replay in the menu and press O, the replay will already be highlighted in the folder so you know easily which one it is.

-Can I go back and replay a story quest or questline?
After completing the story or a questline you'll be able to do it again from the start. You can't choose to play a specific part. The game's tutorial can never be replayed without starting a new save.

-Do captured elites have better stats?
Nope, all player-controlled units have the same stats, and all differences are only cosmetic.

-How do I make an archer get off a spidaur so I can recruit it?
The archer will dismount if it has no targets it can hit with the ranged attack. The easiest way of accomplishing this is almost fully surrounding the spidaur. The archer will also dismount if the spidaur's health gets low.

-Where can I find people to play co-op with or help with daily tasks?
You can find players through the Arrange to play subforum or the official Discord server.[discordapp.com]

-Is there a way to rename units?
No, and there will most likely never be. It ruins the hunting aspect of the game and it could be abused in offensive ways.

-How do I backup my savefile?
Saves are located in (drive):\Steam\userdata\(your id)\291860\remote\save\
The numbers correspond with the save slot used.
I highly recommend disabling Steam Cloud for this game to avoid any accidental overwrites/shenanigans.

-How do I add formatting to my chat messages or Steam username?
Use ^c(number) before words/sentences for colors. 0 is white (default), 1 is orange, 2 is red, 3 is dark green, 4 is dark blue, 5 is yellow, 6 is purple, 7 is light blue, 8 is pink and 9 is gray. Use ^c= or ^c; for black.
You can use ^w to add a wavy effect, ^s for a shaky effect, ^e for bold and ^i for italics.
You can combine multiple formatting codes.

-Why can't I use all the team slots?
Cyclopes, gorgons, hair trolls and troll mothers use up multiple slots of your team to make up for their strength. If you want to use 6 units, you'll have to take those off your team.

-How do I play co-op with my friend?
Click the phone in the left side of the city, then choose Host and then Private. Then click the phone again and click Invite Players to invite your Steam friend. Inviting them from the Steam friend list works too.
In the pit lobbies, you can press C to bring up the invite menu, if the lobby is set to be online.
Note: If you enter the pvp pit from a co-op session, you will not be able to fight against your friend (you'll be forced on the same team). You'll have to disconnect and then host a pit lobby.
To play local co-op, press F2 while a controller is plugged in.

-Can I get rid of unwanted units and items? And sort all my fighters?
Yes, you can either sell them for 550 or 85 gold respectively or trade them to another player, through the house context menu. You can also mark units as favorites to easily tell them apart from unimportant ones.
You can sort fighters with R or right-stick.

-What do colored names on units mean?
Nothing, they're purely cosmetic. There's a low chance for any randomly named unit to have a colored (except black) wavy or shaky name.

-What do red numbers mean on a weapon/item?
It means you've reached the maximum capacity of that item. Obtaining more of that item will sell it automatically. Most items are limited to 10, but items that change stats or belong to quest characters have a much lower limit.

-Why are my units not dealing as much damage as the house says it should? And can I see more detailed stats?
The damage stat in the house shows the average damage that a unit will do in pve in a single turn, against a group of enemies. You can see detailed deflect, defense and dodge stats by hovering over the bars.

-What do the white enemies with fire trails do?
They are elites, stronger versions of AI enemies. You may also find them in the overworld, where they will be immune to the wagon cannon. You cannot flee from fights against elite teams.

-How do I use campfires and other wagon items?
These items can only be used on the worldmap, not in battle, and they're single-use. The keys/buttons for each will show up in the overworld if you have those items with you. The campfire heals all of your (and your partner's) units based on how injured they are; units with less health will heal much more. The resurrection potion brings dead units back to life with minimal health, and therefore you should use it along a campfire. Nitro makes your wagon move faster (although also makes it harder to control) and lets you kill units directly from the worldmap, including elites.

-Can I disable permadeath?
Nope. You'll have to create a new savefile. Note that you can transfer units and items from a permadeath save to a normal one (and vice-versa).

-Why do some spots in worldmaps shine?
It means there's treasure there! Shoot it with your cannon to get some gold or equipment.

-What does levelling do other than healing?
Each level gets a unit +~0.25% damage, defense and health, a flat damage boost (up to a total of 5-6 at level 99) and increased stun chances, including stuns from weapons.
In pvp, all units are averaged to the same level temporarily, and do not gain any experience, but the bonuses from levels still apply.

-What's the point of buying units from the marquette? They're too expensive!
Buying units from the market also gets you the items they had with them; and this is a very good way of getting creature items which may otherwise not be found anywhere else outside of random loot. You may also find units with names you like in the market.

-What's the name of the vinyls?
They're actually licensed music. In order, from top to bottom:
"Wash My Hands" by Kormac
"Del Ray" by Sola Rosa

Combat Tips
Tips. Ones that are better than the speckled horse's, I promise.

-Less enemies = less damage taken each turn. So try to focus down one enemy at a time instead of spreading out your damage.

-Know which units to prioritize based on your current team and situation. In most cases, this will be units that can deal extra damage to your units, AoE (explosive) users and cupcakes. Certain units (gorgons and mascots) are best left untouched until the end of the battle. In 2v2/big fights, AoE units become even deadlier.

-Use stuns on units that take multiple slots and high-damage units.

-Bonus elemental/mace damage are not the only weaknesses of units. For example, troll mothers are indirectly weak to mortars because they occupy multiple hexes, and gorgons struggle against helm users because they cannot use maces.

-Keep your frontline units together. This way, the enemies will have trouble targetting and surrounding a specific unit. While the AI will only surround and focus units low on health, any PVP player with a brain will take the opportunity to devour units left alone.

-Don't launch units with gnomes right into the enemy at the start of battles or you'll run into the problem mentioned above.

-Vampiress can fly 2 extra tiles each turn at the cost of health. Hold left click to use this.

-Each unit has a move priority that determines how early they will start moving. For example, mascots and vampiress move early, while hair trolls and octoclopes move late. If not moved in a turn, units might attack much earlier.

-Attacks can be cancelled if the unit gets hit during the animation. Be careful when using explosive weapons.

-You can manually set a move path for a unit by holding left click. This lets you perform additional moves to delay the unit's attack and minimize friendly fire and interruptions.

-Use X to place useful pins and mark enemies to communicate with your partner in multiplayer. Enemy marks can also be used to control autobattler.

-Flying units ignore fire, spikes, lava and can fly over holes, but can't stay on them. Water defense penalty still applies to them.

-Octoclopes and pixies can't do anything in melee range. Surround them to pretty much take them out.

-Always bring one campfire, they're really useful for doing multiple battles and quests that have more than one fight. I recommend using them when the team is below half of their max health.

-If you're playing in co-op and find that there are too many enemies, have you and your friend only bring 3 slots of units. The enemy amounts will be rebalanced to be the same as in singleplayer.

-Autobattler obeys comms placed on enemies (enable them in the gameplay settings). It will avoid enemies marked with the triangle unless it's the only available target, and will not move units to attack enemies marked with a cage.

-Critical hits deal 20% extra damage and give additional defense piercing.

-Vampiresses and cupcakes get less healing from frosting. Therefore, teams with multiple vampiresses get much less use out of cupcakes.

-Don't abuse helms. They decrease the unit's damage significantly and having multiple of them on your team can be detrimental.

-Explosive weapons aren't a direct upgrade. They deal damage to the user, can interrupt the attacks of your other units, and in the case of cyclopes, the extra damage will be lost if they do knockback.
"I've got a question that isn't answered here!"
I love answering questions, but it'd be much better if you'd ask in the official Discord server[discordapp.com]; there are many active and helpful veterans that could help you there at any time of the day.
But if you've got a question that you think should be featured here, let me know.

And if you've got a technical issue, you can get help from The Behemoth's support site[support.thebehemoth.com]. The official Discord server also has a technical support channel.

By the way. Teams controlled by AI can have more unit slots.

Great tutorial, cheers. Learned more in the past 5-minutes reading this article than I did playing the game for over an hour. :eh::pill::B1:

it's a bug?
Huh, neat.

I feel like it would work better as a feature, because just using nitro to run over a quest-spawned elite (ie bringing someone from a to b while avoiding an elite) kinda ruins the whole quest imo. But hey, opinions.

Nitro is supposed to let you run over elites, it's just that it's bugged currently

There's information here and there that's from Update 5, ie being able to run over elites with nitro. It might mislead beginners. Just a heads up.
