To open the settings page simple press escape on your keyboard and click the settings button. If you are using the old eascape page it will look like this:



If you are using the new escape menu the settings key will look like this:



Once in the settings menu, you will be greated with all the settings in the game. One positive of black desert online's settings page is it comes with a search bar (highlited red in the image) in the top right corner to allow you to search for a specific setting.

If you navigate to the "Display settings" button on the left hand side it will open up a drop down menu, select "display quality". This will bring up a page of alot of key setting options including the optimization settings.

For these settings you will want to tick the box labled " remove others effects" and "remove faraway effects" so they come up yellow as shown below (you can also turn on remove others laterns while you are at it).


What this will do is remove all the different effects from the character abilities, which inturn puts alot less strain on your computer and will most definietly increase your fps. Although this wont drastically effect your fps in a small scale fight i.e a 1v1 or 2v2. But in a large scale fight such as a node war it will do wonders.

If your computer is still struggling to keep up, or you simply just want more fps you can change your game into optimization mode, although it will dratically decrease how nice the game looks.

To change your game into optimization mode you stay in the display quality section, and at the top under graphics you should see a bunch of tick boxes, you want to select optimal.


Changing to optimal will drastically increase your fps, and so if you wanted you could turn back on effects (what I told you to turn off at the start) if you wish to see the abilities. This is because optimization mode actually changes the appearence of the ability effects, making them easier on your computer.

This is a big deal in node wars and I have heard alot of players complaing that they cant see other characters as the game has turned them off ( this is due to their pc not being able to load all the achracters in).

To turn players on / off you need to go into performance settings and then optimization (Beta).

To turn players off you want to tick both "character Optimization" and "Hide other adventurers". If you have a good pc and want to see other characters, keep these settings unticked. If this doesnt work then there is another way to turn on / off players. If you hit "shift" and "f5" at the same time, whilst ingame then it will turn off / on players, depending on whether they were already on / off.

This is a simple change to increase your performance. Go to "performance settings", "workers & pets" and simply untick "work progress" and make sure "hide pets is ticked". This means that the game doesnt have to load in everyones pets / workers.
