Playing your own custom music
By Rukio
This'll get you started when it comes to playing your own personal music in game through the radio. It's not as simple as just tossing .ogg files in the directly. There's an extra step, but lets work from the beginning.

Steps to get your music to play in game.

  • Your music files need to be converted to .ogg format. Just google a few mp3 to ogg sites to assist you.
  • Once converted, head over to Documents\My Games\Catch & Release\Music. This is the folder you'll be using for all your music to show up in game.
  • Create sub categories in the folder listed above. I named a folder called Good Vibes and placed all my ogg files in there to test.
  • Restart your game (if you had it open) so it picks up your music.
  • Find the station your music folder is on and get to reeling!

My first folder frequency was placed in the 106s. Just play around with the radio until you find your music! You can have as many folders/stations as you want if you'd like to keep your music stations themed. Make sure the volume is up.

Enjoy your music!

Works well! One program I suggest that works for converting music is freac. Works in Windows and supports mp3 or m4a to ogg. I'm sure there are online converters out there too, but this one's been around for a while, and it's free.

Might need clarification, but the radio station name is the folder in the file path, and all the playable songs of that station are in that folder. I'd keep station names under 10 characters, no crazy symbols aside those on the Num row.

Works like a charm! I had to change some of the song titles to remove special characters (I had a game-breaking problem), and now I chill to Jungle like a boss. Thanks!!

Also, one of the updates since I last played erased my save game files. When i start the game it's like the first time i've played, but i actually sorta finished the game. The only reason I couldn't complete it before is the final fish to catch wouldn't spawn and a patch was released for it. I went back in recently to catch that big boy and all my progress is gone, ugh. Not as big a deal as the custom songs not working, but would be nice to recover this if possible. Thanks!

Ok, custom songs used to work great by following the instructions posted here, but not they don't work AT ALL. This is game breaking for me b/c I loved this game when i first got it and now everytime I try to play I get so frustrated with not knowing why my custom songs don't work anymore and just quit after a few minutes. PLEASE fix this or let me know if the instructions in this guide are not valid anymore and what the new instructions are. Thanks!
