Introduction and Abbreviations
Since it looks like the Book of Shadows Steam forums are starting to have the same kind of repeated questions as the BloodCovered forums, I'm making a Book of Shadows version of my list of frequent questions. Hopefully this helps someone...

To start off, here are a few abbreviations that I use frequently to distinguish specific products. Some are taken from the Japanese abbreviations, some are modified slightly to be easier for me to remember/type.

BC = Corpse Party: BloodCovered (PC game, released from 2008-2012) (Team GrisGris) BR = Corpse Party: BloodCovered Repeated Fear (PSP/iOS game, intially released 2010) (Team GrisGris/5pb.) BR 3DS = Corpse Party: BloodCovered: ...Repeated Fear (3DS game, initially released 2015) (Team GrisGris/5pb.) BoS = Corpse Party: Book of Shadows (PSP/iOS/PC game, initially released 2011) (Team GrisGris/5pb./MAGES.) 2U = Corpse Party: Sweet Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday Bash [JPN: Sachiko's Game of Love - Hysteric Birthday 2U] (PSP/PC game, initially released 2012) (Team GrisGris/5pb.) BD = Corpse Party: Blood Drive (PS Vita/iOS/Android/PC/Switch game, initially released 2014) (Team GrisGris/5pb.) DP = Corpse Party 2: DEAD PATIENT (PC game, chapter 1 released 2013) (GrindHouse) DPN = Corpse Party 2: DEAD PATIENT NEUES (PC game remake of DP, chapter 1 released 2017) (GrindHouse) TS = Corpse Party: The Curse of Tortured Souls (OVA adaptation with BR voice cast) C0 = Corpse Party: CEMETARY 0 -the creation of ars moriendi- (prequel novella, later manga)
Q: Isn't this game just an alternate universe of the first one? Is any of it canon?
The simple but confusing answer is that everything in this game is canon, despite some of it taking place in alternate universes.

To break things down a little, there are--as the store page mentions--several different types of stories in the chapters available. They break down roughly as follows:

Prequel
  • Chapter 3: Encounter
  • Chapter 4: Purgatory
Interquel/Prequel
  • Chapter 7: Tooth
"Alternate Universe" (Timeloop) Stories
  • Chapter 1: Seal
  • Chapter 2: Demise
  • Chapter 5: Shangri-La
  • Chapter 6: Mire
Sequel
  • Chapter 8: Prologue: Blood Drive

The sequential stories are fairly self-explanatory. The timeloop stories' canonicity is a bit more complicated. There are spoilers for Blood Drive in the answer.

During the events of Blood Drive, it is explained in passing that all potential events allowed by fate took place during the time loop. This includes the timeloop stories from this game, the main story of 2U, and most wrong endings. Therefore, most events of the first three games are "canon" to the main continuity that leads into Blood Drive.
Q: What is the order of the games? Where does this take place?
This is the second game of the current main continuity. (The original 1996 game is in its own continuity.) The release order of the games was:
  • BC1-4
  • BR
  • BC5
  • Book of Shadows (this game)
  • 2U
  • DEAD PATIENT Chapter 1
  • Blood Drive
  • BR 3DS
  • DEAD PATIENT NEUES Chapter 1
The rough chronological order of main chapters is as follows:
  • Book of Shadows (Chapters 3, 4, and 7)
  • BC/BR
  • Book of Shadows (Chapters 1, 2, 5, and 6)
  • 2U
  • end of timeloop (similar to BC/BR true end, with some differences/retcons)
  • Book of Shadows (Chapter 8)
  • Blood Drive
  • DEAD PATIENT/NEUES
The timing of certain things (particularly extra chapters) after the cast goes to Heavenly Host gets a bit messy due to the occurrance of a time loop. Some extra chapters even take place in loops that behave differently than the ones we get to see (like one where a character that is usually dead by that point is fine with no explaination), and the anime OVA is implied to have been one of the loops. The loop closes sometime before the events of the final chapter of Book of Shadows, which leads directly into Blood Drive.
Q: I'm stuck at this part, but not because of a bug--?
Before you ask, you might want to check the guides people have written for the game first. The guides for the PSP/iOS version should still apply to this version of the game. (For instance, the guide written by Ajogamer[gamefaqs.gamespot.com].)

Its just a massive oof for me since I'm just now getting around to playing the games and when I look around for people to talk to its a ghost town. I wanna believe DP2 will happen eventually.

With niche franchises, fan activity can tend to dry up when official releases die down. With DP2 indefinitely postponed and the only news being a BR port to Switch, there isn't much going on with Corpse Party lately. I've seen a few fanbases that stay strong via fan-focused activity, but most of the big projects in the fan community for Corpse Party have disappeared, at least in the places I was aware of.
