An Introduction

So what the duck is Ducktales: Remastered?

Well, I'm very glad you asked, resident Steam user!

Ducktales Remastered is a game developed by Wayforward, Capcom, and Disney. As the title states, it is a remake of the 1989 NES game, under the same name. The game was seen as a NES masterpiece, and Capcom and Disney debated a remake in 2010, and got Wayforward on it, starting development in 2011. The game's work is shown incredibly well, in all the artwork, voice acting, scripting, you name it. The game truly brings back what was good about the NES Ducktales and makes it much much better than it was.

For $15 bucks, it's worth your ducking time.

But enough with the bad puns: let me explain what this is!

In a way of sorts, this is a tips and tricks for Ducktales: Remastered, aka: stuff that will help you collect treasure with a bit more of ease!

This will leave out more obvious things such as how to pogo, etc etc. I'll be explaining "advanced" techniques here! No phonies here, no sir.

Let us begin!
The Mini-Pogo

The Mini-Pogo as I have named it, is a trick that allows you to get smaller jumps with the Pogo Jump. It's easier to do without Hard Pogo on, but it's still possible and not that hard. The Mini-Pogo should be one of the first tricks you learn, due to it's usefulness in game.

What to do

To do the Mini-Pogo, just release the pogo button (Z on keyboards, X/B on Xbox Controllers) in mid-air, and then press it again quickly. If you have Hard Pogo on, just continue holding down and it should work exactly as it does without it on. This allows you to avoid dangerous hazards, especially in areas like the underground Amazon.

Speaking of the underground Amazon, if you plan to get the "Look Ma, No Spats!" achivement, it's recommended to use the Mini-Pogo so you can travel longer distances, without getting hit at all. It's also helpful in levels like The Moon or Mount Vesuvius, as it can allow you to jump over spiked areas in small jumps, to avoid taking too much damage.

Common Sense (aka Exploring)

So say you're faced with this situation - which in game is right after one of the mini-bosses in Transylvania.

What's your first thought? "Jump on all the treasure chests and collect all that sweet loot", right?

Hang on there, buster. Don't pogo on them just yet -

...because if you jump on the chest on the far left, you can get some secret treasures.

What does this have to do with anything, you ask? Well, Ducktales has a lot of hidden rooms and such exactly like this, like 1 rock with a bat or a treasure chest, or this part in Money Bin -

The game tends to trick you like this: but try to think past it for a second. If it's a high jump, jump around some normal times and try to find something to jump on, like another treasure chest. If there's a treasure chest in the middle of nowhere, don't pogo it just yet, jump around on the chest and see if there's anything to find. This can be helpful for getting money, for gallery unlocks and some achivements (namely The Duck Who Would Be King and Connoisseur of the Arts)

Now, onto the next tip.
D-D-D-Danger, watch behind you
Enemies are EVERYWHERE in Ducktales. But it's to be expected, really; it's a video game, after all. And It came from a NES one! Those ones really ducked you up.

Anywho, something you should try to do is notice out level placements. The game has designs where there might be a rock near a spider or a bat - take advantage of these and use them to your advantage. However, keep in mind the last part and make sure to see if there's not any treasure behind them first, although that should be easy to see. There's only one part I can recall that has that kind of area, and I believe it's in Mount Vesuvius.

Try to watch out for enemies - again, they respawn all the time, so keep a careful eye out for how you move. One wrong move and those weird robot-ducks could be punching your grave. (The Moon's ones, you know?) Try to make sure you don't come face-to-face with any too dangerous ones, or any of them at that. The Himalayas can especially be scary for this type of stuff, due to the fact that you cannot pogo-jump continuously - on snow anyway. Watch out for any snow-like ground in that level, it can make your grave if you don't do it right.

Watch out for health pickups! Especially in Hard/Extreme modes, because they don't appear at all. Health pickups can really save your tail in a pinch, especially cakes (which are pretty much non-existant in Hard / Extreme modes, but Ice Creams are) and try to find Ms. Beakley in any level you can. She's in every level in Easy - Hard, but if my memory serves me she's only in The Amazon, Transylvania and African Mines if I recall. Not too sure about that, though.

Mrs. Beakley locations can be found here (thanks to YouTube user TheDigitalMadHouse for uploading the original video.)

Search Across the Land
Ducktales has a great emphasis on exploration. We covered this in the "Common Sense" section of the guide, but this time I'll explain it a bit more.

In Easy/Medium modes, ice creams / cakes are very easy to find, around alot of the areas, as well as 5 heart containers to find; one for each level. In Hard / Extreme modes, however, these Heart Containers can only be found in the Himalayas and Transylvania; the other 3 are replaced with "Lost Treasures" which are worth $1,000,000 for your total cash amount, so they're good for unlocking the Gallery contents!

However, if you're asking yourself "Where are these heart containers, oh great and wonderful guide writer?"

Aw shush you'll make me blush.

But really, they can be found in these locations for Easy/Medium, Transylvania and Himalayas for Hard/Extreme modes.

Asking for a Challenge (Difficulty Modes)

To be expected from any platformer, Ducktales Remastered has a few difficulty settings.

What do they do, you ask?

Thank you again for asking, and I shall now explain. Again.

Because I like you.

Easy Mode
  • Scrooge has infinite lives
  • You only take half-damage, as apposed to full heart damage
  • 5 heart containers to find, one in each level
  • Cakes and Ice Creams are easier to find
  • No difficulty modifer

Medium Mode
  • Scrooge has normal lives now
  • You take full heart damage
  • 5 heart containers to find, one in each level
  • Cakes and Ice Creams are easier to find
  • Difficulty Modifier of around $350,000
Hard Mode
  • Same as Medium, normal lives and heart damage
  • Only 2 heart containers to find, in Transylvania and the Himalayas
  • More gems to find rather than health pickups
  • 1-Ups are a bit more easier to find
  • Difficulty Modifier of around $620,000 or something (not too sure, sue me)
  • "Lost Treasures" replace other 3 heart containers, are worth $1,000,000 each
EXTREME Mode
  • Same as Hard, normal lives and heart damage
  • No saving, the game must be completed in one go.
  • You cannot lose all your lives or the run is over.
  • Mrs. Beakley is no longer in some of her locations
  • Only 2 heart containers to be found, Transylvania and The Himalayas
  • Difficulty Modifier of around $700,000 or something
  • 1-Ups are not as easy to find as Hard Mode
  • Unlocked after beating Hard Mode for the first time

That's all, folks
Thanks for reading this handy guide on some little tips and tricks to Ducktales Remastered! It might not be the most useful, hell, someone else might've said some of these already, but there's already a great achivement guide out there for this game. I thought I might as well expand on it!

Have fun, and have a ducking good time!

....

Are you still here?

Okay, good. Here's a neat little secret just for you;

On the Capcom screen starting up, enter in this little code, for each controller:

360: Down, RB, Up, LB, X, A

Keyboard: ...I have no clue, but..hey! Try what you can! See if you can crack the code of "unlock-8-bit-code-for Ducktales" and I'll credit you here!

..Oh yeah, what it does. I just said it, but, it unlocks 8-bit music for the Options menu without having to beat any difficulty. And yes, it replaces ALL the tracks. Even the new ones!

Have fun!
