Intro
GZdoom by default uses fluidsynth for the music in Doom with some custom sound font. It's pretty close to what the SC-55 sounds like, but some of the instruments are a little off, and some parts of the songs sound like the basic Wavetable synth that comes with windows. This guide is a very basic guide to get your GZdoom to autoload the SC-55 music pack. These music packs were created by Brandon Blume, aka MusicallyInspired.
Installation
Step 1: Go to http://sc55.duke4.net/games.php#

Step 2: Scroll down to Doom. Here you can see the compatibility of the music packs with the source ports that are available. Since we are using GZdoom we can see that we can use the OGG Pack, or the FLAC Pack. Download which ever one you prefer. We will use the OGG pack for this tutorial. The creator recently added Boosted and Raw options. Id recommend trying both to see which one you like better.

Step 3: You want to put the zip file of the music pack where your GZdoom directory is like so:

Step 4: Create a shortcut for Gzdoom.exe and name it Doom1. Right click the doom1 shortcut. Under target: add the lines -file doom_sc55_ogg.zip after gzdoom.exe like so:

Step 5: Launch the game from the doom1 shortcut. If you have multiple wads, choose The ultimate doom wad. Enjoy the best quality music you can have for Doom.

Nova, did you ever upload that soundblaster pk3?

I would love if we could use these sound packs in the new Doom1+2, but I have a feeling they didn't think of that.

I prefer my own Soundblaster pk3 I created for Ultimate Doom. It sounds far better than the opl emulation of the ports & Dosbox, and is how I originally heard the game back in the 90s. I could upload it somewhere if anyone wants?

But for any other Doom wads, I prefer SC-55. With custom wads, I prefer using the SC-55 soundfont.

I'm using WadSmoosh, will the respective track packs work with that WAD file?

Think this will work with the Roland ED SC-D70 packs too? Sounds like they were inspired by Blume. The site is very similar. [sc-d70.retrohost.net]
