Intro
I made this guide because the storage overview doesn't satisfy me.
Maybe it will help others too. The mech pictures are screenshots and can be enlarged with a click.
Only the mechs I have so far are in this guide.

It's part of the game mechanics that with a better relation of free space to max weight the speed goes down. I think a big extra space is normally more worth and with Jump Jets you can partially compensate the reduced speed.

DLCs:A tonnage limit is introduced by a DLC and also "light mechs only" missions. Don't throw away all your light mechs in the middle of the campaign, if you want to play the DLCs.
Comparison of Light Mechs
Some mechs are really better than others.
Example: As long as there is no overall tonnage limit, a Jenner is better in everything compared to a Commando. A Jenner is faster and can load more gear.

I stripped all my light mechs and gave them the exact same 5to armor.
Light mechs have an initiave value of 4.

The differences of free space are astonishingly.

The real max free space is 5 to greater, but it make no sense to use a mech without armor.
Comparison of Medium Mechs
I stripped all medium mechs I got and gave them the exact same 400 armor (5 to) like I did it with the light mechs.

The real max free space is 5 to greater.

Medium mechs are easier to hit as light mechs and have a lower initiative (3). At least you should add 200 (2.5to) additional armor and have at least 600 armor in the normal campaign.

As long as there is no overall tonnage limit, a medium Shadow Hawk is better compared to a light Panther. A Shadow Hawk is faster and can load more gear, but has a lower initiative.
Comparison of Heavy Mechs
I stripped all heavy mechs I got and gave them the exact same 5 to armor like I did it with the light mechs.

Heavy mechs are easier to hit as medium mechs and have a lower initiative (2). You should add more additional armor.
A heavy Orion got much more space and the same speed as a medium Centurion. Only the initiative is lower.
Comparison of Asssault Mechs
I stripped all Assault Mechs I got and gave them the exact same 5 to armor like I did it with the Light Mechs.

Infos
Body Parts
It does matter on which part of a mech a weapon is mounted.
In this screenshot you can see that arm mounted weapons have a shot modifier discount of 1 (this is good).

The shot modifier is very well explained in this guide:
https://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1384166394

Melee Attacks
A successful melee attack removes all evasion of the target.

Melee attacks don't generate heat.

DFA = Death from Above. (Using your jump jets to land on an enemy.)
This value is visible, if you look at the melee values of a mech.
A Death from Above attack will damage the legs of your own mech and make the mech more unstable. Use this ability carefully.
The example values are from a Centurion.

Other Infos
The jump jets for different classes have a different weight.
0.5to = Light and Medium
1to = Heavy
2to = Assault

Nicely made Guide, Marbur... Only one thing to be helpful to you about, I'm sure you mean "5 Ton" armor. And, I'm sure there are folks that do not quite realize that each Ton of Armor adds 80 Points of armor in BTech the PC Game. So, those 5 Tons of armor add up to 400 Armor Points overall. Thank you for this guide. =)

Thanks for your comments. :steamhappy:

In this guide are only the mechs I got myself so far.
In the last time I didn't have much time to play on PC, If it changes I can think about adding new values.
The values of the hunchback are now corrected.
Neput 234 5 Jul, 2022 @ 8:57am
There is a mistake in a Hunchbacks tonnage. The "Current tonnage" is listed as "Free tonnage" in the spreadsheet.

Hunchback, Centurion and Enforcer have the same free tonnage availability...

A more accurate comparison would have been 2 columns :
One with fully stripped mechs ( no weapons or armor )
And the second one With Max Armor and No Weapons
Tirith Amar 18 May, 2022 @ 7:36am
The max armor stat in the comparison and how much free weight with max armor would be cool too.
Vetgirig on Linux 14 Sep, 2020 @ 7:48pm
UM-R60L is not in the list either.

Sorry, only the mechs I have so far are in this guide.
I've got only one part of a Cyclops. I hope to find more.
comppasha 14 Feb, 2020 @ 9:00am
Where is Cyclops?
JonborgVA 4 Jan, 2020 @ 7:52pm
Weird cause I've never seen it 🤔
Marbur  [author] 3 Jan, 2020 @ 2:29am
You can see the single weight of a weapon, if you place the mouse over the weapon.
JonborgVA 2 Jan, 2020 @ 7:20pm
Where do you find how much weapons weight
