Setting up your PS3 and Xbox controller for OMSI
By Shaun's Simple World
This is a guide to help you configure your PS3 and Xbox 360 controller to work with OMSI. Using a PS3 or Xbox controller isn't the best option but it's better than using the keyboard.

Intro
Hi everyone. I've made this guide to help others out there who only have a PS3 or Xbox 360 controller and want to use it with OMSI. I couldn't find one online when I first played OMSI 1 and had to figure it out myself.

Using a console controller isn't the best option when it comes to controlling your bus but it's easier than using the keyboard controls.

What you will need

Now load up OMSI and click Options. In the options menu click "game controller." In the top left box you should see your Game pad listed, Highlight it by clicking once then click the arrow between the two boxes to add your control. Highlight your control in the Right panel and you're ready to configure.
Triggers and Analog stick set up
The next step is to set up your triggers and analog stick for breaking/throttle and steering.

This is the configuration I use and recommend you to use

Z: this will be used for your throttle/breaking as Z corresponds to R2 and L2 on PS3, LT and RT for Xbox. Select Throttle/Break from the drop down menu, tick the REV. box and Select Bi-Progressive from the drop down menu which is set to Linear.

X: This corresponds to your Left analog stick. From the drop down menu, select Steering. Then select Bi-Progressive like before from the menu set to Linear.

The reason for ticking the box labled Rev. for throttle/break and not for steering is because breaking is on R2/RT and throttle is L2/LT as standard. This just flips the setting so L2/LT becomes the break and R2/LT becomes the throttle.
Next click Buttons tab and move on to the next step
Buttons
I've set up my buttons as follows:

X: Handbreak
Square: Electrics on/off
O: Headlights
Triangle: Engine on/off
Left analog click: Left door open/close
Right analog click: Right door open/close

Be sure to click every button before setting up to add them to configuration. Click the selected button on your control to highlight it on screen and use the drop down menu to select what action to perform.
Using your control in game
For the first time use, I recommend loading Grundorf, add a new bus then follow these steps.

*Note: you will need to do this each time you load your game.

Once in your bus, press ESC to bring up the pause menu. Click Options, Game Controller and highlight your control in the Right hand panel. Make sure the box labled Active is ticked then press ok.

Next, press the ALT button to bring up the side menu. Click the icon with the Mouse, Keyboard and steering wheel. Select Game Controller from the menu and test to make sure it works.

Do a few trips around Grundorf to get used to using the controller.

Take note of how much rotation is added to the steering wheel when moving the analog stick.

I hope this helped you out and like I said, using a game pad isn't the best option but it's better than using the keyboard in my opinion.

The software can no longer be downloaded. I have mapped the Xbox360 controller in Steam and calibrated it correctly. But it doesn't work in the OMSI settings. No axis reacts and only one button. In the game, however, I can then accelerate, brake and steer. Not more. I do not understand that. Anyone know advice?

Yes, but its way easier to configure with Xpadder and third party software by emulating keys than fiddling with OMSI's horrible UI for it
