1. Basic build types
While Wizard of Legend offers you many different options for how you'd like to play, there are three main types of builds that I've found will have repeated success.

1. Crit builds
Crit builds are based around, well, crits. In almost every case, the starting relic will be Vampire's Eyeglasses[wizardoflegend.gamepedia.com]. Vampire's Eyeglasses will trigger a heal effect every time you land a crit and thus, offer the most reliable form of healing in the game. Most commonly, the Eyeglasses are paired with the Awe outfit.[wizardoflegend.gamepedia.com] The idea being, land as many critical hits as possible; to trigger the heal effect as often as possible. This means that you want to bring Arcana that hit as many times as possible (e.g. Heroic Blaze[wizardoflegend.gamepedia.com], Dragon Surge[wizardoflegend.gamepedia.com], etc.) While progressing through the game, try to prioritize relics that buff your critical, and ALWAYS upgrade your robe with Seville if possible.

2. Nuker builds
Nuker builds sacrifice healing potential, in favor of raw damage output. The idea of these builds is pretty simple: kill your enemies as fast as possible. There are many, many relics that will assist you in this; it really just depends on which Arcana you like. Royal Flush[wizardoflegend.gamepedia.com] is a strong relic for wizards who enjoy a specific element. In terms of your outfit, Hope[wizardoflegend.gamepedia.com] and Rule[wizardoflegend.gamepedia.com] will be your best friends. Hope is the more conservative option. It boosts your damage but also ups your health, run speed and crit chance. Rule, on the other hand, only boosts damage and armor but boosts damage 5% more than Hope. Nuker builds also offer the most flexibility in terms of Arcana. Basically, any high damage spells will do, it really comes down to the Arcana you feel most comfortable on. For nuker builds, prioritize relics that simply up your damage. You can become extremely strong in just a few stages if the shop cooperates.

3. Evasion builds
The final basic build type plays a little differently than the other two. The evasion wizard sacrifices damage in favor of simply not getting hit. There are a few ways to accomplish this. First, your'e going to want to go in wearing either Shift[wizardoflegend.gamepedia.com] or Patience[wizardoflegend.gamepedia.com]. Shift, offers the highest chance to evade of any of the outfits at 10% and also will give a nice crit chance boost. Patience, offers a lower evasion chance at 5%, but will make up for that with a 5% armor boost; in addition to a health and run speed bump. For relic choice, really anything that adds additional evasion is what you want. Antiquated Tabi[wizardoflegend.gamepedia.com] is a good choice that is pretty common in the store; but there are certainly different relics that will help you out if you're picking more specialized Arcana. Speaking of Arcana, Evading Zephyr[wizardoflegend.gamepedia.com] is one of the strongest for this type of build. It will give you a 100% evasion chance while moving, which is very strong if your signature ability has a longer cool down. Remember, if you're building for evasion, your fights will be longer. Pick your chances to damage carefully, as every hit will count with the reduced damage.
2. Understand your win condition
WoL is a very punishing game. One error can have domino effects that last for an entire run. Going into the trials with an understanding of what you're trying to accomplish and how is very important. For example, if you're going for a crit build, choosing your fights becomes extremely important. You don't want to take more engagements than you have to, as entering a fight on high health is very important. Your healing is enough to keep you topped up, but not enough to be able to expect it to heal you from low health (at least until you're very comfortable dodging.) You want to leave potions for the really desperate moments, in order to save gold to ensure you can get all the relics that will help you. On the other hand, if you're a full nuker, taking engagements against enemies that are easily stunned is rarely a bad idea. A good nuker will be able to kite aggression and control their enemies in a way that lets them burst down enemies before they can really respond and then heal up with the potion at the end of rounds.

Once you decide on a build, take a second to think about how you can best accomplish the strengths of the build. Devising a plan is one of the most important parts of WoL.

3. Don't give up!
WoL can be a very frustrating game for new players. It's important to understand going in that it will take you a while to feel like you're good at this game. For me, I didn't defeat Master Sura until I was 20 hours of gameplay in. These builds will help you, but they're by no means going to make it a cake walk.

While playing this game, it's very important to practice self kindness. As long you learn something from every run, you're doing fine. Don't beat yourself up, don't get down on yourself. Keep trying and I promise you, eventually you will break through!

Doing the boss rush mode is also very good for getting better at the game. You are constantly fighting and learning instead of taking 5 minutes to do a stage.
I went from consistently dying floor 1 to consistently dying floor 3.

double trouble + Limited Edition Robe makes the game so much easier

Thank you for this; it's a very helpful overview for me who feels stuck in the second level of the dungeon even at 18 hours in. I'll take some of these tips and build ideas and put em to use for my next run!

I'm using Vigor for crit builds because it double the healing from Glasses.
