Step 1: Converting and saving
All Blockland music files have two requirements before they can be used in-game:
  • They use the .ogg extension.
  • They're mono.
You can simply look up converters, but for these two steps, I prefer to use Audacity[audacity.sourceforge.net], as it can easily be used to complete the two steps.

Naturally, if your file is already .ogg and/or is already mono, you can skip either of these steps.

To begin, first you have to install Audacity. Once you're done or already have it installed, open up Audacity. Now look up the music file you want to put in Blockland. Select 'File' in the top-left of your screen and select 'Open' in the drop-down menu (or just press Ctrl + O). Navigate to the music file and double click it.

Once it's done, you can either convert/export it straight away or crop it. If you have a long song and you'll host it on a server, it can take a very long time for players to download it. But that's up to you.

To crop your file, click the mouse on the audio waves where you want it to begin and drag it to where you want the song to end. Then select the 'Trim' button (shown here):

Once you're pleased with your selection, it's time to convert it to mono (if it isn't already, you can easily see this if there is only one audio wave in your Audacity). Select 'Tracks' in the selection bar at the top of the screen and look for 'Stereo Track to Mono' in the drop-down menu. Click it, and your file is mono. That's it!

For the last conversion step, we'll export the music to .ogg. Select 'File' in the top-left again and look for 'Export' in the drop-down menu. A pop-up will appear on screen. Under the save location screen, look for "Save As". Click the drop-down bar, and select 'Ogg Vorbis Files'.

Now, before you save, it would be much more convenient if you immediately installed your music file in where Blockland music files are supposed to go. Navigate to here to install music files for Blockland Steam:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Blockland\Add-Ons\Music

Then you simply select 'Save', and another pop-up will appear. This isn't important for setting up Blockland music files, so just select 'OK.'

And that's it! You've installed your music file. Now let's test it.
Step 2: Enabling and testing
Now let's test your song in-game. Start up Blockland through Steam, and click 'Start a Game' in the main menu. You'll be given a choice of gamemodes, but the only gamemode where you can run your custom music file is 'Custom'. So select that.

You'll come up with the screen where you can enable/disable Add-Ons. And while Music is an add-on, it's not selected here. Just select 'Music' on the left side of the screen. Now look for the song in the list. If it's there, all you have to do is click the circle next to it and it will be enabled. If it's not in the list, check the 'Known Issues' section below or ask in the comments.

Once you're done, click 'Select >>' in the bottom-right of the screen. Select if you'll be hosting or playing offline, it's not really important for setting up your music file. Once you've made your selections, click "Launch Game >>" in the bottom-right and wait while your game loads.

While it's loading, you might be getting an error in the chat box, telling you that the 'datablock' (file) is stereo. Of course, if you followed the steps in the section above, this shouldn't happen, but it's a nice confirmation.

After you've spawned, open up the Bricks menu, select the 'Special' tab and spawn a Music Brick. Hit the spawned Music Brick with your wrench, and look for your song in the drop-down menu next to 'Sound'. Select it, and press 'Send >>'.

If your file plays, congratulations, you've successfully installed your custom music file! If it doesn't play, check the 'Known Issues' section below or ask in the comments.

Enjoy your music, and thanks for reading the guide!
Known Issues
Issue: My music file isn't appearing in the in-game list!
Solution: There can be multiple reasons for this.
  • Your file name has spaces in it. You can replace them with underscores ( _ ).
  • Your file is too large. Blockland only accepts music files under 1 MB.

If you have an issue that's not listed here, feel free to ask it in the comments below.

Adding to this after a million years, but if you have a longer song, Audacity has a "Quality" slider at the bottom of the .ogg export thing. You can turn that down to 0, it will sound kinda like the jpeg equivalent of the song, but it makes the file very small and I was able to get a 3:30 song to 889KB
