Items and their Interactions
By |i.c.c.n|
A guide to hopefully help you learn more about each item in-game! Guide contents may be updated if new information is learned. (Items last updated v0.10)

(Partially inspired by a comment by LukasRainbow because, yeah, some things can be confusing at first :p
Also, I don't know where to look in the code for item spawn rarities so how common items are are based off what I've seen)

Notebooks
While not an item in the traditional sense, as you cannot hold them in your inventory, Notebooks are still technically an item!

Notebooks come in 6 different colours and spawn in every Classroom, though from F2 onwards require a question to be solved first to collect. There's no way to lose notebooks without dying. Stray notebooks award 10YTPs, though notebooks from a machine do not. (Instead, YTPs are rewarded for getting the question right)

In most gamemodes; Notebooks, when grabbed, set the player's stamina to 100% and add 1 point to Baldi's anger, making him slightly faster. After collecting all notebooks, the player can interact with Elevators. Additionally, if Arts and Crafters is present, collecting all notebooks will make him get jealous.

In Endless mode; Notebooks will still set the player's stamina to 100%, but instead will remove 1 point from Baldi's anger. Additionally, the amount of Notebooks that make Arts and Crafters jealous is set to 7+, as otherwise he would never get jealous due to there being infinite notebooks. Notebooks will respawn after a few moments, playing a sort of "swooshing" sound to signify their return. If the Notebook belonged to a Math Machine, the player would be required to answer the question again before being able to grab the notebook.
Plus icons/YTPs
Plus icons are a fairly-common item, coming in 3 different colours. Similarly to Notebooks, Plus icons are not able to go into your inventory, and instead give you points upon collecting them. Mostly found inside Classrooms and Faculty rooms, though some spawn as a reward for winning a field trip minigame, what colour Plus you find correlates to the amount of YTPs given:
  • Green - 25YTPs
  • Silver - 50YTPs
  • Gold - 100YTPs
The higher the value, the less common it is!

As of v0.6, in addition to the colour of the Plus icon, a corresponding sound cue will play upon being picked up.
Lost Items
Lost items come in various types but all serve the same purpose; Return it to a student requesting it, and get rewarded with YTPs.

They will spawn in classrooms or faculty room, with the amount present matching the amount of students you'll find on the floor. They come in 10 varieties, being:
  • A book
  • Some playing cards
  • A game controller
  • An action figure
  • A floppy disk labelled "SHARE"
  • A yellow marker pen
  • A plush white tiger
  • A hand-puppet
  • A VHS tape
  • A wooden toy train

While not sold in Johnny's store, they do have a description;
Looks like someone lost this! See if you can return it to its rightful owner. You might be rewarded!
Shape Keys
Shape Keys are special one-of-a-kind keys used to unlock a special faculty room, which contains 3 higher value items.

Shape Keys are only able to be used on a lock of a matching type, and multiple of those rooms (and thus multiple keys) can exist on a floor at once.

There's 6 possible keys, being:
  • Red circle
  • Green triangle
  • Blue square
  • Yellow star
  • Aqua heart
  • Purple "weird" shape

Like other unique items they cannot be sold, but do have a description;
I bet this key could open a matching lock!
Bus Pass
The Bus Pass is a unique item in that it spawns once-per-floor on F2, serving only to let the player attend a Field Trip on Baldi's Bus if they bring it to the Pitstop between F2 and F3. Keep in mind, the item actually has to be in your inventory to attend!

Alternatively, you can give your Bus Pass to Johnny by using it on him, which will remove the pass from your inventory and have Johnny attend the trip in your place

Thanks to its unique spawning conditions, it's the only item not available for purchase in Johnny's store. However, it does have a description if you replace it with a bought item:
You'll need one of these with you if you want to go on a field trip!
Quarter
The Quarter is a fairly uncommon item, being able to be found in Classrooms and Faculty Rooms.

Quarters cannot be used on their own, and must be used in conjuction with something else. Things you can currently use a quarter on are:
Vending Machines
Dispenses one item that matches the machine type
Pay door
Unlocks the door, turning it into a normal swing door
Noise Phone
Play a disorienting noise for 30 seconds

The Quarter can be bought for 250 YTPs and its description states:
A shiny quarter! Useful for anything that requires a shiny quarter!
Safety Scissors
The Safety Scissors are a fairly common item, able to spawn inside Classrooms or Faculty Rooms.

Safety Scissors are most commonly used with a character specifically, and even have a poster describing some of their uses. The poster reads as follows-
Remember kids:
Safety Scissors
are great for
cutting:
Paper
Jumpropes
Robots
Homework

However, the poster doesn't mention everything the scissors can cut. All known possible interactions with the Safety Scissors include:
Playtime
Cuts her jumprope, ending the jumping minigame early
Beans' Gum
When gummed, can be used to remove gum from self
1st Prize
Disables 1st Prize temporarily for 30 seconds, effect stackable

The Safety Scissors can be bought for 250 YTPs, and its description is:
Slice through anything* with these high-end safety Scissors!

*Actually, these are the dullest scissors ever made and can only cut through jumpropes, bubble gum, and cheap wires.
Principal's Keys
The Principal's Keys seem like they should be rare, but are actually rather common- being able to spawn in Classrooms or Faculty Rooms.

The Principal's Keys are used to unlock locked single doors, be it if you're in Detention or caught by an NPC in a classroom (i.e Chalkles or Mrs. Pomp). Unlocking a locked door will not open the door automatically.

The keys are sold for 200 YTPs and their description states:
Break all the rules you want with the Principal's Keys! Use them to open any locked door, even ones that haven't been locked by Principal of the Thing!
Dirty Chalk Eraser
The Dirty Chalk Eraser is semi-common, mostly appearing on F2 onwards and spawning inside of Classrooms and Faculty Rooms (though it can spawn on F1!)

Unfortunately, despite being a chalk eraser, this item cannot be used to get rid of Chalkles. What it can do is spawn a large dust cloud that NPCs cannot see through, lasting 30-40 seconds. (50-60 seconds in the Stealthy challenge). Standing inside the chalk cloud also makes the player invisible, so NPCs walking through the cloud cannot see you

The Dirty Chalk Eraser can be bought for 300 YTPs, and its description states:
Create a cloud of chalk dust and block off the sight of Baldi and his freinds. Stand inside to hide, or use it to sneak past by characters without them seeing you.
'Nana Peel
A 'Nana Peel is an uncommon item which spawns in Faculty rooms and Classrooms, though sometimes you may find already laying on the ground within Playgrounds and Cafeterias!

When used, the 'Nana Peel will slide forward until it hits an entity or a surface. In the latter case, it will remain where it stopped for at most 30 seconds or until it's finally slipped on. The sliding lasts until the affected entity hits an obstacle head-on, to which the 'Nana Peel disappears.
_ Since the 'Nana Peel also can affect the player, if you throw down a 'Nana Peel and then run into it, you can use it to propel yourself forward!

This item costs 400YTPs, and the description states
Drop this on the floor and anyone who walks over it will slip around until they crash into a wall! Be careful, you can slip on it too!
BSODA
A BSODA is a pretty rare item; It has a chance to spawn in Faculty Rooms, being purchasable at a Vending Machine, or even being a reward attending the Party at the Principal's Office event*.
(*In theory, citation needed)

The BSODA only has one use: Sending a spray that pushes valid NPCs for 30 seconds or until otherwise interrupted.
_ As of v0.4, the player can even push themselves with BSODA by re-entering the trigger once the soda is sprayed.

If seen by the Principal within 0.8 seconds when used, the player will receive detention, being told "No drinking drinks in the halls!". BSODA has one of the lowest confirmed guilt times of any offense.

BSODA can be bought for 500 YTPs, and its description states
Open a can of fizzed up BSODA and spray away anyone who's trying to get in your way! Ingredients: Blue, high fructose corn syrup, electricity, and 2% or less of: Water, blue 2.
Diet BSODA
A Diet BSODA is a fairly common item; Spawning in Faculty Rooms, Classrooms, and being purchasable at a Vending Machine

Much like the BSODA, Diet BSODAs send a spray that pushes valid NPCs for a limited time. However, Diet BSODAs expire much quicker, only lasting 3 seconds at most. Additionally, using a Diet BSODA also breaks the "No drinking" rule.

Diet BSODA can be bought for 250 YTPs, and its description states
To help keep students healthy, the drink of choice here is Diet BSODA! Made with 90% less fizz, Diet BSODA still has the taste you love and might just be healthier too!
Energy Flavored Zesty Bar
Energy Flavored Zesty Bars (Henceforth "Zesty bar") is another fairly common item, possibly spawning in Faculty Rooms or Classrooms, or purchasable from a Vending Machine.

Zesty bars, when consumed (with an audible CRUNCH), set the player's stamina bar to 200%. Please note that stamina does not recharge when over 100%, so the energy boost is temporary.

While eating a Zesty bar hasn't been against the rules since v1.3 of Baldi's Basics Classic, the player can get in trouble for running in the halls. ("No running in the halls!")

A Zesty bar can be purchased for 300 YTPs and its description is:
Eat one of these and get a boost of energy! Fills up your stamina more than you can just by taking a rest!
Alarm Clock
The Alarm Clock is a semi-common item, appearing in both Classrooms and Faculty Rooms.

When used, the Alarm Clock will be placed on the ground and start ticking. Once you place an Alarm Clock down, you're able to set the timer for when it should go off- By default set to 30 seconds, the clock can be adjusted from 15 to 60 seconds (in intervals of 15) by interacting with the placed clock. The Alarm Clock's ring will attract Baldi's attention if he doesn't have a higher priority elsewhere. The ringing has a higher priority than detention does, so you can use it to stall Baldi if you know you're about to get in trouble!
_ Be aware, however, that the Clock is able to be moved by outside forces, so if it isn't where you left it... it got shoved. (v0.4)

Purchasable for 300 YTPs, its description is:
Set this clock up and when it goes off, Baldi will want to check it out! Unless he sees you of course, he's not *that* stupid.
Baldi's Least Favorite Tape
Baldi's Least Favorite Tape (Henceforth "the Tape", formally "Baldi Anti-Hearing and Disorienting Tape") is a fairly uncommon item, appearing in Faculty Rooms (or less commonly, classrooms).

The Tape, much like the Quarter, cannot be used on its own. The Tape is only usable in the Tape Player (Located in the Principal's office!) and, when used, will play the same disorienting sound as the Noise Phone for 30 seconds. This makes all NPCs flee away from it and distracts Baldi, making him unable to hear other sounds while the tape is playing.

You can purchase this for 400 YTPs, with the description being:
This tape was carefully designed by a student to effectively make Baldi deaf as long as it plays. If you can hear the tone, you can make all the noise you want, worry free!
WD-NoSquee
WD-NoSquee is a semi-common item, appearing in Faculty Rooms or less commonly in Classrooms.

WD-NoSquee has a poster describing its use, stating:
WD-NoSquee!
When your
doors are too
loud and you
need 'em to
be QUIET!
Though its use-cases are far more versatile than that! When used, WD-NoSquee will leave a massive area of effect (indicated by sparkles) that prevents any sound sources within from notifying NPCs. The AoE lasts 5 minutes and has a maximum range of 5 tiles from where it was sprayed.
_ Though sound sources won't alert Baldi, things like the Tape Player or Pay Phone will still work within the AoE. Be careful, however, since any propagated noise made within the AoE is muted... including NPCs!

Purchasable for 250 YTPs, the description in-store reads:
Tired of noises giving your location away? WD-NoSquee can solve your problems! Spray it anywhere to make everything around you squeakless clean.
Swinging Door Lock
The Swinging Door Lock (Henceforth "Lock") is a semi-uncommon item, appearing in Faculty Rooms.

The Lock can be placed on most swinging door types, and will last 30 seconds. While in-use, neither the player or any NPC can pass through the locked doorway.

Purchasable for 500 YTPs, the Swinging Door Lock's description is:
Place this on any swinging door to lock it for a few seconds, preventing anyone from coming through. Keep in mind that people can still see through locked doors!
An Apple for Baldi
An Apple for Baldi (Henceforth "Apple") is a rather rare item, appearing mostly as a reward for taking risks such as: Attending a Party at the Principal's Office event, or inside a Mystery Room. The Apple can also sometimes be found in a tree in the Playground, only being accessible via Grappling Hook

The Apple cannot be used by the player, but instead acts as a sort of life-insurance. When in the player's inventory, the Apple will automatically be taken by Baldi if he catches up to them. Baldi will thank the player for the Apple (taking 5 seconds to do so), then proceed to quite loudly eat for 10 seconds before becoming active again

There are two chalkboards relating to the Apple. First, is a chalkboard hinting at its use, stating:
An apple a day saves lives.
The 2nd chalkboard relating to the Apple is a doodle of a Grappling Hook hitting a tree, dropping an apple. Along one side of the chalkboard is the word "COOL"

At a pricey 1000 YTPs, the Apple's description states:
Give this to Baldi and he won't be able to resist taking a quick break to scarf it down!
Principal Whistle
The Principal Whistle is a semi-uncommon item, appearing in Faculty Rooms or Classrooms.

The Principal Whistle only truly has one use, but can be used for a variety of ways-
Using the Principal Whistle attracts the attention of Principal of the Thing, indicated by him saying "Don't worry, I'm coming!"
This can be used to get rid of It's a Bully, get in trouble to quickly get away from Baldi, get Principal to leave an area you need to go to, etc..

This item costs 300 YTPs, with a description that states:
Need instant justice? Blow this whistle and Principal of the Thing will come to your aid as quickly as he can!
Big Ol' Boots
Techno-Boots are uncommon items, able to spawn in Faculty Rooms.

There is one poster hinting to the Boots' usage, which state:
Janitors
must wear
boots when
sweeping!

When used, the player will see an image of the boots swipe from the top of the screen to the bottom, indicating that they're being worn. While in use, the player cannot be pushed/pulled (Be it being hugged, blown away, swept, dragged, whirlpools, or Grappling Hooks) or be moved by a conveyor belt for 60 seconds. After time's up, the boots will swipe from the bottom of the screen back to the top.

Sold for 200 YTPs, the Techno-Boot's description (more helpful than the poster) says:
Baldi's techno-boots have wheels on the bottom that will cancel out any outside forces, so you won't get pushed around so much. No plugs required!
Faculty Name Tag
The Faculty Name Tag (Henceforth "Nametag") is a rare item, able to spawn in Faculty Rooms.

The Nametag, when used, will display a spinning image of a name tag at the bottom of the screen that says "Hello, I'm Faculty". This item lasts for 30 seconds and is one of the more versatile items, affecting most NPC's behaviour towards the player. Currently, when the Nametag is used:
Principal
Ignores player
Playtime
Ignores player
Arts and Crafters
Doesn't get angry when stared at
Mrs. Pomp
Won't invite to class
Beans
Ignores player
Chalkles
Doesn't spawn / Despawns if partially spawned
It's a Bully
Disappears when touched, won't steal an item
1st Prize
Won't accelerate to hug player
Dr. Reflex
Won't test player's reflexes
Please note that NPCs will ignore you after you put on the tag, so if their interaction with you started before the Nametag is applied, it won't do anything. Similarly, a select few NPCs don't care about the Nametag's presence at all, so it can't be used with everyone.

You can buy the Nametag for 400 YTPs, and its description is:
Experience what's it's like to work in Baldi's Super Schoolhouse! When you have this on, no one will bother you! Well, except for Baldi, he knows a fake nametag when he sees one.
This description is misleading, as characters like Gotta Sweep do not care if you are faculty.
Grappling Hook
The Grappling Hook is a rare item, able to be found rarely in Faculty Rooms, when attending the Party at the Principal's Office event, or inside a Mystery Room

The Grappling Hook can be used 5 times before it runs out (v0.2) and, when used, sends a hook flying down where the player aims, latching onto whatever surface it catches on and swiftly drawing the player to that location. Using multiple Grappling Hooks at a time will result in the player being pulled more, making it possible to get to locations even faster.
_ If the location is too far away or the player otherwise cannot be pulled to where it latched onto, however, the Grappling Hook will fail/break after a few moments. As mentioned in the section for An Apple for Baldi, using a Grappling Hook on a tree in the Playground that has an Apple on it will cause it to drop. The Grappling Hook can help the player escape Playtime's minigame, resist being pushed, or get away easier if stuck (e.g. Beans' gum, an angry Mrs. Pomp)

In the Grapple Challenge, the player is equipped with a special Grappling Hook in their first inventory slot that cannot be taken/replaced, and can spawn a theoretically infinite amount of Grappling Hooks.

Costing 750 YTPs, the Grappling Hook's description is:
Fire this baby at a far away wall to quickly get pulled towards it. Can get you out of sticky situations quick.
Portal Poster
The Portal Poster (Otherwise just called "Portal") is a rather rare item, and can be found in Faculty Rooms

The Portal Poster can only be used by facing a valid wall. What makes a wall valid is if nothing obstructs it (e.g. a Vending Machine) and that there's a valid area on the other side for the player to walk in. As of v0.3.5, windows no longer behave like walls and you cannot place Portals on them. When you're against a wall that's invalid and try to use the Portal Poster, a low tinging noise is heard to signify you can't place it. When used on a valid wall, the Portal will place with a cartoon-ish smacking noise, opening the wall so that the player can walk through.

The Portal will become a permanent fixture until the player dies or the floor ends. Be careful; Other NPCs can both see and follow you through it!

Costing 750 YTPs, the Portal Poster's description states:
If there's a room on the other side, place this on the wall to get through. A super technology invented by Baldi himself!
Dangerous Teleporter
The Dangerous Teleporter is possibly the rarest item in the game; Able to naturally spawn as a reward for finding the Mystery Room, or, less commonly, inside a Faculty room.

When used, the Dangerous Teleporter will take the player to a random location, cycling between areas and gradually slowing down until finally ending 7~ish teleports later. You never know where you'll end up, though, so you might not be able to linger for too long!

Able to be purchased for 1000 YTPs, the description says:
Use this and there's no telling where you'll end up! It could take you to safety or certain doom! Now that's what I call fun!

just never saw it for myself; that combined w the fact that regular BSODA never spawned in classrooms prior lead me to believe it wasn't a thing.. is it rare, then?
GregTheBPlayer 11 Aug, 2024 @ 3:05am
Diet bsoda spawns in classroom, you have forgotten about that
|i.c.c.n|  [author] 2 Aug, 2024 @ 7:18am
thanks for bringing it to my attention. first one was from me originally thinking the words were reversed- I fixed most instances but evidently missed that one, lol

as for the 2nd: sometimes when editing text I accidentally leave remnants of the original wording, I can only assume that's where the extra 'the' came from ^^''
...I can't remember what the original phrasing was , though

The portal poster has 2 typos in it.
1. Poster Portal (unless not)
2. Other NPCS can both see and follow "the you" through it.
