How to Unlock Turboelectric Reactor
By Fanytastic
English
During the localization, some players find there's Turboelectric Fission Reactor hidden in the game, but it's locked. Description of Turboelectric Fission Reactor still exists in in-game infolinks. Someone find out how to unlock it. I tried to design overpowered/IMBA reactors with Community (Future) Material Pack.

Save following stuff as "135.txt" with Notepad. (or some other similar software, because Notepad is built-in software in Windows)

TurboelectricFissionReactorModule 135 UsesCustomName false ReactorCoreDimensions_m 0.1 0.1 NuclearReactor Coolant Water Moderator Hafnium Carbide ModeratorMass_kg 0 Fuel U-235 Dioxide FuelMass_kg 0.15 FuelEnrichment_Percent 0.97 ControlRodComposition Boron Carbide ControlRodMass_kg 0.001 NeutronReflector Boron Nitride ReflectorThickness_m 0 AverageNeutronFlux__m2_s 5.4e+18 Turbopump Composition Vanadium Chromium Steel PumpRadius_m 0.1 RotationalSpeed_RPM 3400 Turbine Composition Vanadium Chromium Steel TurbineRadius_m 0.1 HubRadius_m 0.09 AbsoluteInletAngle_degrees 80 StageCount 25 CoolantInletPressure_Pa 1e+07 CoolantInletTemperature_K 1000

Save your 135.txt to this path in your computer: C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Roaming\CDE\Mods\Data\Imports

Then you can find something like this in Module Design-Powerplant-Other:

You will find there's a Turboelectric Fission Radiator. Duplicate this module, do some edit, trial and error, you can design an available Turboelectric Fission Radiator.
Design Doctrine

1. If you can't find what's the best material for coolant, water is always your first choice. Because in real power plant, we use water to make steam turbine run. If you want to optimize your reactor by using other types of coolant, you can try something with low boiling point.

2. Don't make outlet temperature too high, if it's too high, you can't find suitable material for radiator.

Do you see the "Error" in the red box? It's probably a bug. The module is too OP/IMBA, it's still not being fixed. Q Switched don't want to fix the module, so it's locked in UI.

You might need the help of Community (Future) Materials Pack to design an OP/IMBA reactor.

解锁涡轮裂变反应堆的方法
将以下内容复制进记事本(或者是其他类似的东西),另存为 "135.txt"

TurboelectricFissionReactorModule 135 UsesCustomName false ReactorCoreDimensions_m 0.1 0.1 NuclearReactor Coolant Water Moderator Hafnium Carbide ModeratorMass_kg 0 Fuel U-235 Dioxide FuelMass_kg 0.15 FuelEnrichment_Percent 0.97 ControlRodComposition Boron Carbide ControlRodMass_kg 0.001 NeutronReflector Boron Nitride ReflectorThickness_m 0 AverageNeutronFlux__m2_s 5.4e+18 Turbopump Composition Vanadium Chromium Steel PumpRadius_m 0.1 RotationalSpeed_RPM 3400 Turbine Composition Vanadium Chromium Steel TurbineRadius_m 0.1 HubRadius_m 0.09 AbsoluteInletAngle_degrees 80 StageCount 25 CoolantInletPressure_Pa 1e+07 CoolantInletTemperature_K 1000

Just tested this. The math is wacky. You know its wacky when there are yottaKelvins involved.

Wrt physically realizable implementations with this module, they all strictly under-perform the thermocouples b/c one does not simply make a decent Brayton cycle powerplant that only has a single stage compressor. Reusing the turbopump module would be fine if this were Rankine cycle (compressor operating on liquid coolant), but the game doesn't sufficently model phase transitions/phase diagrams for that. For Brayton cycle we need multistage compressors to achieve decent compression ratios (real Brayton cycle engines typically >10) and compete with thermocouple; but best I could get in game was 1.6 (ultra cold Xeon)

Regardless, actual performance improvement is less than 10% over the best thermocouple powerplants if we restrict to physically realizable designs. In that light Q-switched seems reasonable. I'd be curious to see how reactor mass/cost/volume compares, but radiator mass and cost dominates anyways so I can't imagine it mattering. (2/2)

Sadly this is far beyond "imbalanced" and is outright physically broken. Specifically the module seems to output nonsense if the coolant goes supersonic anywhere. Your example rejects heat at a temperature higher than the reactor temp. If we assume you're getting the Carnot efficiency on your heat engine and solve for reactor temp that implies a reactor temp > 3388k which the game *should* be objecting to. I was able to take this even a little further with Xeon coolant and have the module let me build a reactor that effectively had a core temp over 7000K. Beyond me why there isn't a sanity check that the power output doesn't exceed the Carnot efficiency. (1/2)

Very cool thank you

I can make ships with this type of reactor. However, if I restart the game all turbine reactors will have disappeared from all ships I put them in... is there any fix for this?
