kk(b) that is by far the most important step, I agree, however, I would go a step further -

Step 4: Open Preferences, go to Social and turn off ALL permission to" buttons, such as, allowing any sort of contact with your character directly. i.e. Invites to duels, guilds, groups, PvP's, parties, picnics etc. etc.

I can never turn off chat on the Imperial side, it is a riot. The fleet is such a great time. Don't need to turn off chat on Republic side because no one talks.
