Story
  • Following a distress signal, Captain Walker and his men have entered Dubai looking for survivors.
  • Armed refugees have kidnapped a 33rd soldier and taken him back to their nest.
  • McPherson, the kidnapped soldier, is somewhere inside this complex.
  • The armed refugees are led by an American named Castavin. Why is an American fighting against the 33rd?
  • The CIA have teamed up with the refugees to take on the 33rd.
  • The 33rd have gone rogue. If Walker is going to sort this out, he has to find John Konrad.
  • No one knows where Konrad might be - except maybe the CIA.
  • The 33rd have kidnapped Agent Daniels. He's being held in Camp Truth at the bottom of The Gorge.
  • Delta must rescue Agent Daniels to find out what the CIA knows.
  • The Daniels transmission was a trap set by the Radioman.
  • Thanks to Agent Gould, Walker and his men escaped the Radioman's trap.
  • It's clear the 33rd must be stopped. Delta's only option is to reconnect with Agent Gould.
  • Agent Gould is dead. It's up to Delta to complete his mission and storm The Gate.
  • The Gate is well-protected and Delta is outnumbered. They'll have to be resourceful.
  • The Radioman is just a lackey. Konrad has been in charge of the 33rd the whole time.
  • After the storms hit Dubai, Konrad instituted martial law to keep the survivors alive.
  • Konrad's command team rebelled against him, causing a civil war. In the end, he burnt them alive for their betrayal.
  • Dubai is a harsh, dangerous place. Konrad needs Walker to understand this.
  • Konrad's headquarters is located atop the tallest tower in Dubai.
  • Agent Riggs is the only CIA still alive in Dubai. He is Delta's only chance of stopping the 33rd.
  • The 33rd controls the city's water supply. Without it, they would have no power.
  • With the water destroyed, everyone in Dubai will soon be dead.
  • Riggs' plan was to destroy the water supply, killing everyone in Dubai. That way, the world would never find out what Konrad did.
  • Time is running out for Dubai. Delta must evacuate the city before everyone dies of thirst.
  • If Delta can seize The Radioman's broadcast system, they can organize a mass evacuation.
  • Konrad will never let Walker and his men leave Dubai.
  • Walker and his men are injured and separated. If they're going to survive, they'll have to regroup.
  • The Radioman is dead. His broadcast tower has been destroyed. Evacuation may now be impossible.
  • The refugees killed Sgt. Lugo in retaliation for Delta stealing the water supply.
  • Delta has failed their mission. All that's left for Walker and Adams is revenge.
  • Adams blames Walker for Lugo's death. It's his fault they didn't leave Dubai when they had a chance.
  • Adams sacrificed himself so Walker could reach the tower.
  • Walker's obsession with Konrad has brought nothing but destruction - to Dubai and his squad.

He already had PTSD, for sure, after Kabul.

I always thought that even Walker arriving at Dubai, he was already distressed and ill. He also seems to space out, and his character has these subtle face twitches quite early in the game. The Damned was his breaking point.

Whatever happened in Kabul was FUBAR.
As per intro of the game - "(...)here was this one time in Kabul when he dragged my bleeding carcass half a mile to the evac chopper(...)
And when you see executed american soldiers, Walker says "Just like the Kabul death squads."

I wonder why Walker doesn't like to discuss what happened in Kabul.

If you are talking about "I exist and I find it nauseating." quote, it's from Jean-Paul Sartres "Nausea". The quote is mildly mistranslated, "(...)j'existe, c'est tout. Et c'est si vague, si métaphysique, cet ennui-là, que j'en ai honte.", which translates as (...) I exist, that's all. And it's so indistinct, so metaphysical, this trouble of mine, that I am ashamed of it."
Most likely it was translated that way to connect it to the title of the novel.
