Increase/Change Unit Cap to ANY Amount (Skirmish/Campaign)
By Arkyon
Hello fine folks. Like me you probably picked up this game, messed with the toys and thought to yourself:

"Damn, I've got so many unit varieties and squad combinations I want to try, but I hit the Unit cap right away, what can I do!?"

Do not fret, as this guide will teach you how change the base unit cap used in skirmishes to above 250, to any size you want.

Introduction
Greetings fine folks.

So like me, you probably want a little more chaos and oversized armies to throw around in this little gem of a game. You know, play Perimeter like you would, Supreme Commander but with destructible terrain. No problem, I've done it and It does work pretty well.

In this I've set it to 1000, which Is what I found a limit that allows me to get very big armies but with a still visible ceiling. You may set it to any number you want, but try not to get too big as the engine may not be equipped to handle it.

I personally recommend anything between 250-1000. I have not tested bigger armies, but you probably won't ever reach this unless you're really trying to cover the map with units.

Anyways onto the guide.
Changing the Cap
1- Go to Perimeter's folder.

First we'll need to find the file. If you know how to reach a steam game's installation folder you can skip this step. If you can't, then keep reading.

-First right click Perimeter in the library to bring up the dropdown menu, click properties.

-Navigate to Local Files and click "Browse Local Files"

2- Find GlobalAttributes File.

Now we're going to find the file the game uses to know which unit cap it should set to. In most games, this is typically encoded in a different format, or stored inside the game itself. Luckily for us, Its found in an easily editable plaintext file.

1- Navigate to the "Scripts" folder.

2- Find the "GlobalAttributes" file.

3- Right click it and select edit.

3- Change the baseUnitsMax's value to whatever you want.

1- At the very end of the file you'll find an entry called "baseUnitsMax" with a number. This is the unit cap number that you want to change. (In your case, it will display 250)

2- Change it to any number you like. As mentioned before. Any number between 250-1000 will provide a much more generous play experience.

3- Save the file.

4- You're done! Have fun!

Great, now you can play with as many units as you want. Some additional notes:

  • If you're wondering how the game is in widescreen its because I have the HD widescreen mod installed. There are some guides that mention how to get these mods and configure them properly.
  • If you want to play multiplayer, I recommend you revert the changes, as it may have some bad results. (If you really want to try multiplayer with a bigger cap, have the other person also preform the unit cap changes. It could work in theory, but unless someone reports back to this guide it is considered untested.)
  • Even with an army of nearly 700 units, running 1440p widescreen and the HD mods, the game didn't even hitch once. I do have a rather powerful rig so your mileage may vary.
  • Played the entire campaign with this thing running. As far as I could remember, no map has a lower cap than the base, so you can enjoy the campaign with a much broader army.
  • Do note that the AI will not use the increased cap, so if you set it too high, (500+), you may win due to overwelming numbers rather than raw strategy. (The game does balance itself quite nicely, a big army just chugs energy like no tomorrow)

This has been my first guide and I hope it is to your liking. Have a fine day fine folks.

I want to add to the guide that you can change all the hotkeys to a more modern and convenient option, I made for myself custom binds. To change the hotkeys you need to open a file in any text editor at the path \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\PERIMETER Legate Edition\Resource\controls.ini
You can replace it with my version by downloading it from the link, remove the extra spaces to download it.
