How to Actually Configure Recore's Graphics Settings
By Nebulous
Being a UWP game, and having a somewhat broken in-game graphics menu, I am here to consolidate how to actually tinker with the graphics, and provide an example of the settings I reached after 2 hours of googling and tinkering. This is not perfect, but it will get you 90% of the way there.

(I can't get a definitive fix on the blinding sand brightness, currently I have to do it every time I open the game.)

Do you need this guide?
Boot up the game, and go into the advanced graphics menu. Can you adjust the resolution? The frame rate? If so, you are probably plugged into your graphics card via HDMI, and thus you might be okay.

If you are getting the common overlay issue and can't edit some vital settings, please continue with this guide.
Where does the renderer file live?
C:\Users\USER\AppData\LocalLow\Microsoft Studios\ReCore\76561198047675795

Here in this folder, you should see renderer.ini

Edit it with notepad.
My Renderer File
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <GraphicsSettings xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <m_ScreenScale>1</m_ScreenScale> <m_Gamma>-0.400000036</m_Gamma> <m_HDRPercievedNits>0</m_HDRPercievedNits> <m_AnisotropicTextureFiltering>ForceEnable</m_AnisotropicTextureFiltering> <m_BloomEnabled>false</m_BloomEnabled> <m_SoftParticlesEnabled>true</m_SoftParticlesEnabled> <m_HQAOEnabled>true</m_HQAOEnabled> <m_Resolution> <m_Width>2560</m_Width> <m_Height>1440</m_Height> </m_Resolution> <m_TextureQuality>VeryHigh</m_TextureQuality> <m_VSync>Off</m_VSync> <m_TargetFPS>Unlocked</m_TargetFPS> <m_FullScreen>On</m_FullScreen> <m_Antialiasing>Temporal_2X</m_Antialiasing> <m_EffectQuality>High</m_EffectQuality> <m_Shadows>Soft</m_Shadows> <m_ShadowResolution>VeryHigh</m_ShadowResolution> <m_AmbientOcclusionQuality>VeryHigh</m_AmbientOcclusionQuality> <m_LightShaftQuality>High</m_LightShaftQuality> <m_CameraMotionBlurMethod>Off</m_CameraMotionBlurMethod> <m_ShadowCascades>Four</m_ShadowCascades> </GraphicsSettings>
Some notes:
Most of these should be pretty self explanatory, but let me makes some notes on some settings:

  • HDRPercievedNits: It will default to 450, but this was part of the fight to tone down the insanely bright sand. I have it at zero, my monitor doesn't support HDR, and I feel like this game would not look too great with it either.
  • BloomEnabled: Same reason as HDRPercievedNits.
  • Resolution: Fairly obvious, just enter in the dimensions of your display. (1920-1080, 2560-1440, 3840-2160)
  • TargetFPS: This took some experimenting. There are 3 values for this: (ThirtyHz, SixtyHz, Unlocked)
  • CameraMotionBlurMethod: Whats wrong with you?
The bright sand problem
So when I boot into the game with this renderer file, the sand is still insanely bright. However, if you use the in-game graphics settings for this part, you can change it drastically.

Just go in, decrease the brightness by one, then increase it back by one. I really am not sure what is going on here, but something flips somewhere to make it look completely different.

Personally I have to turn brightness way up after this tweak, otherwise it kind of loses the game's aesthetic.

Also yes, you have to do this every time you start up the game for some reason.
Closing
This is not terribly in depth, cause I have no idea who will actually read this, just figured the game could use a more convenient guide for people.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for this, it helped me when first trying it and it helps me now reconfiguring it. I dunno what the fuck they did with the graphics options, but I feel like the game is weirdly broken at parts

Oh really? I actually didn't think to tweak it in there. I might see what else I can accomplish with the settings.

Any particular settings you forced that help out?

@Rarewolf, let me know if you make any additional discoveries. Just trying to leave a comprehensive guide while this game is on my mind.
