What is This Guide?
This guide details all of the effects that weather has on gameplay in Mindustry, as there is little information online about it. The information gathered here is a combination of my own research as well as comments on this guide. Credits to who contributed what is at the end of the guide. If it is not specified, I was the one who found that information.

If you wish to do some research into weather yourself, here's how to edit weather settings for a particular map:

Open the map in the editor
Bring up the menu, then select "Map info"
Click "Rules"
Scroll all the way to the bottom and select "Weather"
Adjust which weather effect you want and how frequently it appears.

For proper testing, I recommend a map that has a weather effect appear once a minute and lasts for a minute, so that there is intermittent weather for easy comparison.

(Last edit 3/23/21 - Added solar panel efficiencies for different weathers)
Rain
Water falls from the sky, tinting the world a slight blue. Most common in areas with bodies of water or muddy soil.

  • Water extractors get a 20% efficiency boost, from 6.6/s to 7.9/s
  • Halves the time that fire burns units for
  • Solar panels are 80% as efficient (compared in full daylight)
Snow
Frozen water falls in flakes, giving the sky a slight white hue. Most common in cold snowy places.

  • Seems to slightly reduce the time a fire burns units for (more testing needed)
  • Solar panels are 85% as efficient (compared in full daylight)
Sandstorm
High winds push sand into the air, coating the world in a thick yellow haze. Most common in dry places with a lot of sand.

  • Water extractors get a -10% efficiency modifier, from 6.6/s to 5.9/s
  • All units suffer a slight speed penalty
  • All units are slightly pushed in the same direction of the sandstorm
  • Solar panels are 90% as efficient (compared in full daylight)
Sporestorm
Spores in the wind cover the entire sky with clouds of purple. Most common in places where the spores have taken over the terrain.

  • Cultivators get a 100% boost to production, from about 0.43/s to 0.86/s
  • All units move noticeably slower
  • all units are slightly pushed in the same direction as the sporestorm
  • Solar panels are 85% as efficient (compared in full daylight)
Fog
The cloud cover moves closer to the ground, enveloping the surface with mist. Seems to be most common in humid areas, though fog has been observed in areas such as deserts.

  • Water extractors get a 5% boost to their efficiency, from 6.6/s to 6.9/s
  • Solar panels are 70% as efficient (compared in full daylight)

why wouldn't you use solar panels? they're great for getting some power after the first batches of silicon :wolyes:

@Sebine you can attach three solar panels, a battery and an illuminator to have pretty much permanent light.

People actually use solar panels?!

the windy weather can occur simultaneously with most other weathers... i have had raining and sporestorm at once ;)

"I wonder if rain, snow and fog make enemies Wet, for the purposes of getting hit with various other status effects."
yet rain make all units wet and are effected by shock status if hit with arc tower....

I did get an achievement in steam that required a unit to be wet while it was raining; I did not have any waves at the time
