Sorry, I realize I misunderstood your question about the vacuum tube. (And spoiled a puzzle for you later on.) The answer to your question is that in one of the rooms (in all likelihood #303 as the list says) it becomes possible to look at the vacuum tube at some point by aiming the flashlight at its center when passing it. This suddenly yields a capsule with a room key.
The vacuum tubes are in the office to the left. Note the symbols on top of each of the tubes. And note that each of these symbols is also displayed inside the one drawer in the office that opens without a key.
