Remove Film Grain, DOF, Chromatic Aberration
By Waffle Washer
Do the following to remove settings desired

From Windows search, search for:
"
%localappdata%
"
Navigate to:
C:\Users\*****\AppData\Local\TheAscent\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

Open: Engine.ini in notepad

Paste:
[SystemSettings]
r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0 ;Remove Depth of Field
r.MotionBlurQuality=0 ;Remove Motion Blur
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0 ;Remove Chromatic Aberration
r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0 ;Remove Film Grain (Possibly redundant, but doesn't hurt)
r.Tonemapper.Quality=0 ;Remove Film Grain (devs recommend setting to 3 to remove grain effect, but keep other color benefits)
r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=2 ;forces a specific AA-type: 0=none, 1=FXAA(untested), 2=TemporalAA(default)
r.PostProcessAAQuality=6 ;forces max quality AntiAliasing (default is fine)
r.ScreenPercentage=100 ; internal rendering resolution. Increases up to 200 (keep at 100 for native resolution of your monitor)
r.LensFlareQuality=0 ;Removes lensflares

Use all, or just copy whichever line respective to your tastes.

You can shorten the link to just: %localappdata%\TheAscent\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

Yeah, I see the grammar screw up that essentially instructs to increase ' r.screenpercentage ' to 200. Don't do that, lol. That will TANK fps

Alright, the setting that helped me most with a stable fps was lowering "show distance". I set it to "low", can't really see any difference regarding visual quality, but the stutters are gone now.

Lol, these settings actually made my game run WORSE than before :D Before I applied the settings to the Engine.ini, I had all the setting set to "high" and ran it with DX11. Stable fps, no drops, no freezes. With the alternative settings, I got micro-freezes back, whenever a fight would start. Also many transitons from one screen/ area to another would make the game stutter.
Dunno why.

Anyone know the path to these files for the GamePass version of the game? I thought I had found it but edits to it dont seem to work

Disabling AntiAliasing and reducing ScreenPercentage lower than 100 will help with performance.

I know this is a pointless question but I need to ask it out of frustration: Why isn't any of that in the options menu? Seriously, what is it with modern video games just bundling everything into a catch-all "post-processing" slider and clocking out for lunch?

The only thing that doesn't work is the lens flare command.

UE4 usually doesn't require you to read-only the .ini. However, if this doesn't work for some, then perhaps it's worth a shot.

And for those it does not work for, make sure that syntax is correct. Don't have a dead space before ' r. ' and be sure to have [SystemSettings] preceding the modifiers
