INTRODUCTION :

this method is simply consists of backing up your save game with a very fast method and replacing them in case of a character death so you can reload your game as a checkpoint , as you have noticed , the game has a perma-death mechanic and multiple playable characters , so if your characters is dead , its gone for the rest of your playthrough and you are forced to switch your character ,

if all of them are dead , you will restart the whole chapter , according to the devs , this is how the game is meant to be played , but the death of characters can change the cutscenes , block achievements , and putting the game on easy difficulty blocks most achievements as well , so refer to this method if you didn't like this mechanic while wanting to play on normal difficulty or just want to enjoy the game normally without further headache.

THE METHOD

1- navigate to your save game location = C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\SongOfHorror\Saved
create a shortcut on desktop of this location.

2-create an empty folder on desktop next to the shortcut and call it backup save or whatever you please

*so here is where the action inside the game starts , the game saves everytime you enter a room , or you exit the game via 'save and exit' option ,when an enemy is around the game cannot be paused .also the game saves automatically when a character is dead so alt+F4 won't work.

3-what do you want to do here is play the game to some preferable amount , (15 min , 20 min ..) and when you feel like you made some progress or bypassed a hard puzzle or so on , you pause the game and select 'save and exit' , this is important to update the save file ,(just be sure there are no enemies around , cause if there is , you will get 'exit without saving' option).

4-after exiting keep the game opened and alt-tab it to desktop , open the shortcut to the savegame location that you already created 'C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\SongOfHorror\Saved' ,,, then copy the file to your folder next to it , supposedly you named it backup save , this should take less than 15 seconds.

5-go back into the game and press continue and resume playing , every considerable play time repeat step 3 and 4.

6-on a character death , just alt-F4 the game (faster) or exit from the main menu if you wish , open the shortcut to the current saves and delete all content in the folder , then replace it with the content in the 'backup save' folder , relaunch the game , and boom ... you are back at the checkpoint YOU created , this process shouldn't take more than 30 sec.

everything is now set , repeat the loop when desired and enjoy the game

Very useful guide, thank you!

As a lot of people who played Song of Horror may have understand, the permadeath mechanic is a part of its horrific experience. Combined with the fact that we can hardly say for sure what will happen next, it makes the game even more stressful and thrilling.
Even though, it also can be considered as an extremely frustrating mechanic, notably because of the duration of each chapter... We may also say it can become unfair in a few kind of situations (especially when the game crashes during a dangerous event, or when you're facing a QTE with a character with weak stats in Lovecraft difficulty).

So thanks a lot for this tip. It helps in making the game experience more confortable for people who are not very good while dealing with QTE, especially in the highest difficulty mode.

After killing everyone 3x, (except for Sophie who is 2x), I've implemented this backup save so I can resume from this "Last chance - Sophie" point. Thanks! It's such a simple thing. :)

Or, much more simply, I made this script you can run. Just save it into a file like "someFile.py"
Then edit the top line so "YOUR USERNAME" is whatever your Windows username is.Then you can run it from the command line.
"python someFile.py" to backup saves and "python someFile.py --restore" to overwrite your current save with your backup.
