Best(?) Settings to Emulate Saturn Visuals
By gobbins
My tweaked settings to more closely emulate the look and tone of the Sega Saturn version of PowerSlave.

Introduction
PowerSlave Exhumed ships with two shader modes, subtractive and modulate, that attempt to emulate the look of the Sega Saturn and PlayStation versions, respectively.

Combined with the CRT filter, you can achieve a pretty convincing and nostalgic aesthetic for the game. However, with a bit of tweaking to the subtractive settings and brightness, I have come up with what I feel is a slightly more accurate Sega Saturn-like presentation. Your mileage may vary depending on how your monitor is calibrated of course, so feel free to share your results in the comments below.

The remaster will never look 100% exactly the same, due to how lighting and shadowing is calculated on the KEX engine, but you can get a surprisingly close approximation.

These are the settings I have gone with to achieve the best result:

Comparisons
I have attached a couple of side-by-side comparisons with the Yabause Sega Saturn emulator. Again, your results may vary and I can't guarantee they'll look this close in all situations, but it looks pretty close to me!

Maybe in the future I'll do a video going back and forth between the two versions...

Gotta say its damn impressive how close these two screenshots look. They really managed to make the game look like you want it too.

I just set Shadow Contrast to 15 and Darkening Strength to 15, looks exactly like Saturn version on SSF Beta R28 emulator in my monitor with both running side by side.

@Monroe, glad you liked the guide. I admit their first trailer was a little unrepresentative of what the final product would become. It was taken from a very early build of the game, before the Saturn level implementation and Saturn-esque lighting shader. It completely transforms the game. Glad to read you'll give it a shot, it's well worth it!

daaaamn thanks for this. Now my game looks exactly like the Saturn experience!

Nice work! I managed to replicate these exact settings and they look close to the Yaubase screenshots you provided.

I'd also suggest setting the FPS to 30 since the Saturn version was capped at that framerate for performance reasons, and changing the screen resolution to something like 1280 x 960 depending on whether you're playing fullscreen or windowed.

The only issue I really had was not being able to see enemies in the background so well due to the chunky pixelization, but that should be expected with replicating such old hardware.
