Introduction
If you are trying to find specific monsters for any reason on the Veldt, this will help you farm them out much faster. (If you are trying to find specific rages, loot ETC.) This is a trick I found specific to the PR version that has saved me tons of time already. I do not plan to post all of the possible groups in this guide as they are located in other guides.

Here is a link to another steam guide (that I often use) if needed: https://cs2bus.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=583222214
The Gau Bible by Bamethyst38 - great guide. you are looking for the Mechanics - Veldt Battle Formations pages.
The Trick
If you know what group the encounter you are looking for is in, you can now fight until you are in the previous group, save your game, attempt a fight, if it isn't the one you want you can load to title and try again in the same group! (this is a big deal as it wasn't possible in previous additions and this greatly speeds up rage farming). Basically you can use a group list and follow along save scumming to get the encounters you want. If you have farmed rages before this is probably enough information for you so have fun! If not, I will explain further.
How it works
Without going into the specifics (there are other guides for that) the monsters you can find in the Veldt are based on a couple of things:
  • Monsters you have faced before
  • Groups of possible encounters
  • A random selection in each group in order

To elaborate, you have to have run into the monster outside of the Veldt to find it here. I honestly keep a running check list when I play to make sure I don't miss any of them.

Next, when you load up your game and start walking around the Veldt you will fight a random encounter in a random group. You can look up this encounter to find what group it is. (Again other guides do this well, I am just explaining the trick that is possible in the PR version). Once you know your group you can track along. Example:

Let's say you really want to fight a Satellite for the rage or the hat it drops.
  • You load up the game and walk around the veldt until you find a fight and it is with 2 Zagrem
  • You look it up and see that this is in group 5 and Satellite is in group 8
  • You kill them and you will now fight a random fight from group 6 and the same for 7. (You can also save scum to get encounters you want out of 6 and 7 if needed making it much easier to get all rages)
  • After your fight with group seven you will get a random encounter from group 8 and hope this is a satellite.

In previous additions, your seed or what you face got locked in early so you couldn't really reset it before the group, you could do somethings to try to speed it up or try for a different group hopefully closer to the one you want but in this version, you can save right before the group you want, fight a single battle, see if it is the one you want, otherwise go to configuration then return to title and try again! The seed for the next group resets without resetting your current group!

Renzor has always been, for 30 years and counting.

It's been years since I've played any of the older games. I did pick up versions of them when I bought 6, but maybe I'll keep an eye out on the PR versions then. 6 is my favorite, but 4 is a close second. I don't need extra dungeons just for their own sake. Thanks for the heads up.

Exactly the added content in normally just some harder areas or the like but no more story or anything. If you haven't played it I would 100% recommend the PR for FF 1. It doesn't have the extra dungeons but I generally found those annoying after the game anyway. FF 2 can be slog but the PR does make it faster. 3 is the first game with jobs so that makes it interesting and 4 is fantastic. My top 3 in order (of the older games) would be 4 then 6 then 1. 1 is also really short. ( the nes version required a lot of grinding not needed in newer versions.)

I was wondering about the font mods I saw. That sounds annoying. Also sucks to hear the extra content hasn't been good in general. Now I'm curious about the older games. I had planned on going through them after I finished FF6. Not sure I understand why they added the content anyway. The games were (generally) good as they were.

correct no den and no soul shrine. None of the extra espers either. I do wish they would have added them but in general the extra content has been sub par compared to the rest of the games when it comes to FF so I didn't mind missing it in this version. They also used a really bad font that you have to mod to fix. It is an easy fix on the PC but still odd.

Really? It doesn't have the Dragon Den or Soul Shrine? I've been looking forward to checking them out since I learned they're in the version I'm playing. I'm not a fan of some of the dialogue changes that have been made (The Opera scene in particular irked me to no end--it's my favorite sequence in the entire game), but some of the weapon/armor changes seem to be good.

no worries at all and honestly the quality of life improvements and art improvements make the PR worth it in my opinion but you do lose the extra content added since the SNES days.

I'll delete my comments to avoid any more confusion for other people. Again, sorry for the mix-up. I wouldn't have thought there was that much of a difference between versions of the game.

Damn. Sorry for the confusion. Though that does explain why your guide doesn't show up on my game's guide's list. I had to google to find your guide.

Oh you know what, yeah my guide is for the PR version and will only work in the PR version. I was wrong though you do go to title after battle but yeah you go to menu then options or some such then to title. But yeah this only works in the PR version. In all other versions there really is no good way to farm sadly.
