Troubleshooting and a quickstart guide for beginners
By Perro|Verde
Hi, i'm new at BS-12 and i'm not an expert in this game nor in this genre, but I think that lack of information is angering some players and here I will try to explain what problems I've encountered and how I managed to solve them.

Introduction
First, apologise if my english is not as good as you expected.

This game is enjoyable when you can play it, but is already frustrating to get used to the controls as well to fight against performance issues, with not recognized peripherals, etc so here I'll try to approach some solutions and write some tips for the new players.

Let's go.
Performance and hardware issues
Game performance
  • How to setup your input device:
    1. First, plug and run your device before starting the game or it won't be recognized.
    2. Once in the game go to: "Settings" -> "Control" -> "Vehicle"
If the "Steering wheel/ Gamepad" option can't be selected, try the step below.
  • Your controller or your steering wheel is not recognized by the game:
    1. Try restarting the game and check if your input device is plugged and if it works with other games.
    2. If your steering wheel is not recognized try to run the game with an Xbox controller and unplug your wheel, if the option is selectable now, restart the game and turn off the Xbox controller and plug your wheel again.
    3. If you have a Logitech wheel try to launch the game directly on the "Logitech Profiler" software.
  • bad button recognition by the controller or the steering wheel
    • Once in the "Control" menu, don't assign any button of the wheel on the "Keyboard / Mouse" option, if you already did it, go back and press "Standard assignment". Assign the wheel buttons only in the "Steering wheel / Gamepad" option (No matter if you assign keyboard keys there too).
  • Wheel and pedals configurations
    • Wheel and pedals deadzones: Press [F11] while you are inside the bus and adjust the slide "Steering wheel play".

    • Combined pedals: If you have a logitech wheel, you can able/disable them on the Profiler, and while you are inside the bus press [F11] and tick or untick "Combined pedals".

  • Low frame rates & screen freezes
The game itself isn't a good optimisation example, and note that although graphics aren't awesome, simulators are exigent with both CPU and GPU, you will need a powerful PC to run it on a good graphic level. But there are some things that you can try to do to solve, or at least, to improve the overall performance.
    • System requirements. Check them HERE

    • Basics: Try lowering graphics: (From more to less performance impact)
      • VSync: Off.
      • Shadow details: off/low
      • Visibility: low/medium
      • Rim light: unticked.
      • Depth of field: unticked.
      • Glow effects: unticked.
      • Ansiotropic filtering: Try at 50%.
      • Terrain details: Try at 25% at first.
      • Mirror: Medium
      • Blur: unticked.
      • Full screen: ticked.

    • Close ALL of your running applications that could be wasting processor and memory. (Browser, music players, some antivirus tasks...)

    • Try running the 32/x86 bits version instead of the x64.
You can do this going to: "Steam library" -> right click on "Bus simulator 2012" -> "Properties" -> "Local files" tab -> "See local files..." -> Go to "Bin_Basic_win32" folder and run "BusSimulator2012.exe" (You can make a shortcut to avoid doing this every time)

    • Once the game is running press "[Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Del]" keys or "[Ctrl] + [Shift] + "[Esc]" and you will enter to the "Windows task manager". Go to "Applications" and right click on "European Bus Simulator 2012" and select "Go to process". Right click on "BusSimulator2012.exe" and select "Set priority" and choose "High".

    • In the game options, go to: Game settings and check if your PC can handle the amount of AI traffic and pedestrians, try lowering it a bit.

    • Check if the hard drive where the game is installed is fast. If not, it can cause freezings or make a huge impact to the performance when the game is writing to the drive.
Some tips for the beginners
Tips to start in 10 minutes
