How to properly "Fix" Two Worlds II HD - Activation Key Problem
By Vance Degas
Two Worlds II - Activation Key *FIX*
This works with the base game of Two Worlds II HD on Steam. I am unsure if this works with any of the expansion packs or the multiplayer modes. Single Player Campain & Achievements are working though.

Because the developers / publisher / Reality Pump Studios *ARE LAZY & DO NOT CARE* about their customers, I have figured out a way to properly fix Two Worlds II HD - Activation Key problem.

This "Guide" will help you properly fix the Two Worlds II - Key Activation Problem on Windows (7/8/10/11). This is not tested on any other OS (operating system) - only Windows. This will work on fresh* copies of the game.

* (The game should have been downloaded through Steam and not tampered with in any way - eg. No Patch or Updates from another site are necessary!!!)

What you WILL need:
  • A basic understanding of how to use Regedit.exe

What you WILL *NOT* need:
  • To download any patches from external 3rd party sites.

*DISCLAIMER*
As far as I know, this fix only works on the Two Worlds II HD - Steam version of the game. I do not own the expansion packs or any other version of the game on Steam. Apparently, this method also works with all of the *Single Player* Expansion packs as well, so that is good to know! Enjoy!

(Honestly, the devs should have fixed this issue long ago!)

Two Worlds II HD Registry Keys Solution
Alright, so you've tried for days but can't figure out how to fix the Two Worlds II HD - Key Activation problem that you get as soon as you've started the game up.

UPDATE (06/07/2022) - Here is what the guide fixes:

  • Two Worlds II HD (Base Game)
  • Activation Key Issue is no longer a problem
  • Full Game Is Activated (Should NOT say Demo)
  • Achievements Work perfectly as well as Steam Cards
  • Game Should Show version 2.0.5 if you own the base game of Two Worlds II HD
  • Also works with the latest Single Player DLC "Shattered Embrace" which will bring your game up to version 2.07.03 (thanks RandalMcdaniel!)

With this *FIX* you will not need to download any patches or extra files from any external or 3rd party sites. Also, with this method, the Achievements still work! That makes this the safest & best solution for fixing this problem!

After digging around a bit, and with the help of The First Breed's guide (Solution 2). I have figured out a way to fix the Key Activation problem, simply by editing the registry keys for Two Worlds II HD.

This is a relatively simple fix, as long as you follow the instructions exactly as described.

First, I am going to assume that you know how to use Windows Registry Editor (simply called REGEDIT or regedit.exe). If you are unsure how to use Regedit.exe then I suggest you check out The First Breed's guide first - found here: First Breed's Two Worlds II Key Activation Fix Guide, since he provides enough detail in his guide to get you started with detailed pictures as well... although his solution did not work for me - I had to tweak his solution a bit in order to get Two Worlds II working for me.

So, open up REGEDIT. Then simply "Find" or Manually locate this registry key:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\reality pump\TwoWorlds2

Now, Do This:

Once found, click on the sub-folder that says 'Installer' (in this folder you should see a registry key titled Default on the right-hand side of the registry editor window)

Right-Click beneath the key that says 'Default'

Select the option 'NEW > DWORD (32-bit) Value and rename this new registry key: VersionD

Right-Click on the newly named registry key called VersionD and select 'Modify'

Change the hexadecimal value from 0 to 1

Still with me? We're almost done!

Now, click on the subfolder 'SerialKey' (it should be located a few folders below the 'Installer' sub folder found on the left hand side of the registry editor)

Again, there should be a registry key titled 'Default' on the right hand side of the screen.

Once again, now that you're inside the SerialKey subfolder, right-click just below the 'Default' registry key and select 'NEW > DWORD (32-bit) Value and rename this new registry key: VersionD

Right-Click on the newly named registry key called VersionD and select 'Modify'

Change the hexadecimal value from 0 to 1

Once you have finished adding these 2 keys to your registry, close REGEDIT and you are done!

That's it! You are now able to play Two Worlds II HD without any Activation Key problems AND you can still unlock achievements and trading cards!

I Hope this helps anyone who is still having this issue with Two Worlds II HD.

Also, thank you to The First Breed for creating his guide on the community forums.

@Critzy,

I'm glad you got it to work! :steamthumbsup:

I don't play the multiplayer and never have, I only play the single player campaign. I'm glad you got the game working though.

Enjoy! :steamhappy:

@Critzy,

Okay, I'll try to help in a little more detail. When you open your registry editor, look up at the top left. There should be 5 tabs that you can click on (File, Edit, View, Favorites, and Help).

Click on the "Edit" tab, and within that tab once it is opened, click on "Find". Alternatively, you can also press Ctrl + F once you're in the windows registry editor.

Now, simply look for this line:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\reality pump\TwoWorlds2

You can simply copy and paste that in the "Find" field. To make it easier, also make sure that keys, values, and data all have a checkmark next to them when using the "Find" tool.

If you do this, and if you have installed Two Worlds II properly, you should be able to locate that specific registry entry. Then, look at this guide and follow the instructions right below where it says: "Now Do This:"

Hopefully that helps solve your issue. Let me know how it goes. :steamhappy:

@Critzy,

Do you have the Steam version of Two Worlds II?

If you have installed the Steam version then you simply need to run Regedit (Windows Registry Editor) and then follow the above guide. It's a good idea to keep this guide open when you're attempting to do this, that way you do not miss anything while completing each of the steps involved.

Not everyone is familiar with using the Windows Registry Editor, so I tried to be as detailed an descriptive as possible.

If you do follow the steps above, you should be able to find the proper registry key which is:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\reality pump\TwoWorlds2

(This is not a Windows Folder, it is a windows registry entry, and can only be accessed by using your Windows Registry Editor - normally just called regedit.exe)

Once you do find the registry entry, just follow the guide carefully and you should have no problems.

Let me know if you how it goes or if there are any problems. :steamthumbsup:

@Nikanuur,

Thank you for the kind words. You are right though, the community does matter. I did try to use other peoples guides because they were on the right track, however, I didn't want to use a patch or any 3rd party software in order to play a game that I already paid for. I'm just glad this guide was able to help others out.

Cheers! :steamsunny:

Man, this is why community matters. I've no issues with TW2 because I've bought it many many years before Steam and my key still works even on Steam :) But I so applaud to endeavors such as your guide. Thanks a lot for all the unhappy souls you made happpy man.
