irl i have so many scenery markers from different positions within my entire county i always know where to go without a map or compass. my friends can never understand how i always know where north is, that and i seem to have a freakishly good guess on time. like the other day i did an engine rebuild on my car, hopped in but forgot my phone while i was out test driving it, while waiting to pick my dad up again i just guessed the time in my car as disconnecting the battery resets the clock and i was 1 minute off when he got in and i got him to check the time. im always within 1-5 mins without looking at the time

tbf i just use it by looking at the numbers, well... 2 numbers, between 345 and 15 is north and if you know north you can know your direction without knowing what youre looking at then, or if you dont want to keep using the compass, look for a scenery marker that is north from your position then you can navigate in your chosen direction, you never need to check your direction again if you are travelling straight north east south or west, as straight north you head to the object, once past it keep it behind you, if you are travelling east, look at the object turn so its on your left shoulder and walk straight, once you need a new object make sure its again over your left shoulder and boom you going east, south just walk with the object directly behind you, and west is the same as east but having it over your right shoulder. i do it in real life too and its how i always know which direction is north without a compass, that or if i dont have a compass i use shadows and the time

Imagine it being a simple clock with no interiour. Gravity would always bring the big side down. Down is south. So you automatically know the opposite is north etcetera.
