Maybe your friends are being terrible human beings because you're being a terrible human being. It's all about perspective. If you go around thinking you're the best person on the server and not contributing to the overall team, chances are your friends are gonna hate you. The first step to being a better person is just helping out your fellow team. Let's do a hypothetical. If you find a life crystal you should you give it to:

A) Your friend who has 180 HP (They're playing melee and they've been searching caves for 10 minutes and haven't found much)

or

B) You, who has 380 HP. (You're playing summoner)

That's right! You should give it to your friend! But if you already think this way, maybe you aren't the problem. Then what do you do?

Make your friends better people. It might just take a "Hey dude, you're bein a little bit of a jerk" to snap someone out of that jerk mentality. Maybe you need some NPC housing, but your friend is building shoeboxes while you're building entire cities and you think "Wow this guy sucks at building." maybe they're great and they just don't know how to build. Teach them! Help your friends be better people and they'll grow to help you in the future. "But what if my friends don't listen when I try this?" I hear you ask. Well then all you have to do is FORCE THEM to be better! Maybe say "Hey I found [item they really want], but you can only have it if you help me out with something." Of course, don't always do this, because then whenever you ask for help they'll think there's something in it for them. But what do you do if they absolutely refuse to help out?

Clearly this isn't working out. You gotta talk to better people man. Go on the Terraria discord or something idk. Personally I've met some great people there. It usually works. But if it doesn't there's still like 100k other people on the discord, surely someone will be a good friend. Either way, you gotta get some better people when you're playing Terraria.

Yeah, kinda figured this would happen. Maybe those were your best friends, and Terraria just isn't the multiplayer game for your group. Or maybe they are the only people who understand your humor. Or maybe they're the only people who really get you. Either way, those people you started with are the people you need. This is gonna take a lot of courage, but you're gonna have to apologize to your friends for literally leaving them and finding other people to hang out with. Maybe you can start up another world and try again.

You're gonna realize that your friends' playstyles don't mesh with yours at all, but that's what's gonna bring character to your world. Think about it, if everyone on your world played the same, it would sound perfect on paper, but that's a real hell. It would be so boring. If you have one person build an entire city than another person build a sky house out of rainbow blocks, what's gonna happen? It's gonna look sick as hell that's what! You gotta remember that you picked this group of idiots, and this group of idiots picked you, and if you leave them, what's gonna happen? You're just left with a smaller group of idiots and one sad idiot. That's no fun. Even if it doesn't work out still, just go play singleplayer. Who cares? Terraria is all about making your world your world, and if it's just you, who's gonna stop you?
