Rush research to shipping.
Create a Colony Ship and colonise any nearby island, then you can build Trade Ships.
Put all but 1 of your new island peeps on the ship and bring them back.
Build enough Trade ships to house your entire current population (2-3 shoudl be enough if you didn't waste too much time)
Only leave a singular peep on each island. The game's difficulty now is paused. The ship peeps can get as miserable as they want since there is fewer than 200 of them.
You can choose to more carefully colonise all the islands that way for resource access but be mindful of the hard limit of miserable scurvy ridden peeps you can have at once.
Now all you need is patience to plan out and build your communities on the islands you have, advance research and industry with only 1 peep per island to do any work :D
