Intro
I made this quick guide to help with the mistakes I see people make the most.
This is a guide mostly aimed at beginners, but also a refresher for more advanced players who are stagnating due to forgetting their fundamentals.

It is also aimed at Dubu goalies, I uhhh... think? I mean these are the ones I witness making war crime-tier mistakes the most so... you get the idea.

3 simple MS Paint images, 3 simple and important rules to be a better sex partner.
There is no TL;DR but the words in bold go straight to the point.

Without further ado...
Rule 1: STRIKE LAST

The most important rule in Omega Strikers.
When you are about to trade for control of the ball, always strike it after your opponent.
Do not burn your abilities mindlessly, they are your last line of defense when you have failed to uphold this rule.
This however does not mean that you should be too conservative regarding your cooldowns to the point of never pressing anything!

Of course, your opponents will attempt to do the same and the entire depth of the game's character kit design lies in who uses what when. This is where you need to learn your characters and their matchups.
Rule 2: DO NOT PASS TO YOUR OPPONENTS

When being pushed, the most important thing to do is to hit that stupid ball.
But what is the second most important thing to do?

To send the ball away from your opponents.

This is especially important when you are playing goalie. Kicking the ball back to the opponent attempting to push you is essentially the same as giving them a free goal on a silver platter.

As a forward player, applying this rule will strip ball control away from the enemy team.

Your chances of victory are directly proportional to how much your team controls the ball, or rather, how much the opposing team does not. This gives you more opportunities to strike a goal, and will remove a lot of pressure on your goalie.
It also makes it easier for you and your mates to reposition and take over precious map space.

In this picture, the enemy Estelle is attempting a goal push with a single ball strike and your Juno has opened herself up for a pass.

  • If you send the ball back, she will have ball control again and will be able to either force that push by going straight towards you and win a direct trade (Strike while timing any of her 3 abilities so that it hits the ball immediately after your strike), or strike with an odd angle, forcing you out of position for a very easy goal for her or Asher.

  • If you send the ball towards Juno, your team immediately gains control of the ball and can attempt a push which Kai will have a lot of trouble mitigating.
The problem is, while it travels towards Juno, it will still be in range of Estelle's abilities. If she reads your pass and pops her ult, it is a guaranteed goal.
If her abilities are all on cooldown however, doing so is perfectly safe and optimal.

  • Now, if you send the ball above Estelle, which she does not expect you to, it will break her push and force her to let the ball go, or reposition near the wall to regain control, which will make her vulnerable to a lethal slime toss and unable to immediately push you again.
Rule 3: DO NOT HUG YOUR TEAMMATES

Every character has a "territory" that depends on their movement speed, size and ability range and availability. This defines the space in which they control the ball's trajectory, prevent enemies from safely advancing, and potentially knock opponents out.

Controlling space means positioning yourself so that your uncontested territory is as large as possible, and with its center (you) as close as possible to an important spot (orb, goal arc, odd goal push angle).

Controlling the ball means having the ball in your uncontested territory.
Of course, the closer the ball is to you, the more options you have, and the stronger your control over the ball will be.

Now, with all of this in mind, how do you weaken someone's territory?
By making both of your territories overlap. This means you can contest their control over the ball with your positioning, strike and abilities.
And because of the way this game works, overlapping an ally's territory will not necessarily give you stronger control over the ball. If you want to send the ball upwards and your ally downwards, nobody controls the ball.

Furthermore, if your territory overlaps with an ally's it means your team is giving up free territory to your opponents. In such a case, one strike is all it takes for them to push your goalie, uncontested.

  • This is why, unless you are performing a brutal push together on the enemy goalie...
    Spread out!
Grouping up will make it more chaotic, and harder for your teammates to control the ball.

  • Trust your teammates and respect their territory, unless they are about to repeat a point-losing mistake from a previous round.

  • This also means do not blindly chase the ball, if it is moving towards your fellow forward, let them have it and open yourself up for a juicy, devastating pass!

  • And as a last, very important note: Never hug your goalie!
Their job is to remove ball control away from the enemy while preventing goals.
If you hug your goalie during a push, you will make it more difficult for them to read what is happening and react accordingly, and you might also prevent them from deflecting the ball in a safe direction.
And on top of that, it means there is one less forward for them to pass to, and thus more dangerous passes/deflects!
That is all, thanks for reading and have a salty day
No need to thank me for wasting your time because in the end both you and I know that we will never be good at this game anyway!

The two silly nincompoops that gave those clown awards probably think the optimal response in EVERY instance in which the core enters their territory is to shoot it in a direct line towards the lock/goal. I come across more than few players who operate as such :goobert: But actually, absolutely stellar condensation of the ACTUAL fundamentals of the game, ya know, beyond "You have abilities." "Goals have locks." "Put ball in goal." Personally I have explained(in far less clear and perfectly encapsulated wording) these ideas to the few buddies I've gotten into the game, but I'm legit saving link to this guide locally, sharing it with anybody I play the game with, and reading it before every multi hour session of OS so I can constantly recognize which tenets I need to improve on. Seriously, hats off to you for making legit the best guide I've ever come across for this really cool game. TYSM :er_wave:

Tutorial was awful. Had to learn everything myself basically. Not understand how KO works severely limited my game play early on. With a better Tutorial all of these issues wouldn't be a problem.

I'd even add a 4th -- positioning. Covers basically KO'ing and passing in one. So many times I'll have someone spam "Pass!" but they never get open. Some of that is "don't huge your teammates" but they can just be hugging the enemy too. They also might not understand trajectory or how certain abilities work. Like they may be demanding a pass because they think they're open but if Estelle has her ability up then she can shoot it as I pass from one side of the field to another in a straight line. It's like a barrier in between us. I need my teammate to position themselves in a place where they can't counter with their ability or we need to prevent the other player from being able to react (stun, banish, etc.).

Heck, I'd make some videos on the subject if the game wasn't abandoned.
