-USE THESE SETTINGS BECAUSE THE GAME WILL NOT LAUNCH ANY OTHER SETTINGS IDK WHY.

Frequency-THIS IS TIED TO YOUR MONITORS REFRESH RATE
IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR REFRESH RATE FOLLOW THESE STEPS
1.go to settings, 2.click display, 3.scroll all the way down and click "advanced display settings" and should see a box that says refresh rate, IF ITS HIGHER THAN 150, THE GAMES DEFAULT IS 75 THEN USE THE 150 BECAUSE IT'S THE CLOSET AND WORKS.

-after doing those settings click save
-now you gotta click on search and type "advanced system settings"
-next click on "advanced"
-click on the box that says "performance" and within the box says "settings"
-after clicking settings go to "Data Execution Prevention"
-Select the one that says "Turn on DEP for all programs except"
-Then click the down arrow and go to the hard drive you installed the game
-Then go to steam, then steam library, then steamapps, then common, then find the Sherlock Holmes: The Secret of the Silver Earring
-select the "game.exe"
-After that then click apply, it may say you need to restart your computer which I recommend then come back to the guide.

***This part is for if you are facing the "broken resolution" issue***
All you have to do is lower your resolution by one in game, this will fix the screen tearing issue.

Nice job you should be ready to solve some crime, have fun and don't forget to rate my guide.

I am updating this guide to include a temporary fix for the broken resolution issue. But i am trying to find a another way without compromising resolution.

@Doodlewurst thanks I forgot that some people are on an older version of windows.

Or, as described in the link below, you might find it easier to remember the command SystemPropertiesAdvanced to open to, specifically, the Advanced tab in System Properties. You can replace Advanced in that command with any of the other tab names to open directly to them instead.

You can get to "Advanced System Settings" in multiple ways. In older windows you would right click on My Computer (now This Computer) and select Properties to open System Properties (now called Advanced System Properties). Newer windows, this will bring up the About window. Then you should find Advanced System Properties on the right beneath Related Settings.

Another way to get to there, in older Windows you could hold the Windows key and press the Pause/Break key to open the Advanced System Properties. In newer Windows this will again open the About window. Then find it on the right, as above.

Or, in my opinion the best way, you can open it easily from the command line. Hold the Windows key and press R to open the "Run" dialog. Then type sysdm.cpl and hit Enter. That will directly open the Advanced System Properties dialogue.

@linahill that’s weird because windows should show it when typed into the search bar. You can go into settings>system>then go click “about”> scroll down and you should see Advanced system settings. If your on Linux then I got no idea how to help you.

Nothing shows up when I search for "advanced system settings"...

@mail I typed in Windows search bar "advanced system", then went to in "advance" and under "Performance" click its "settings", next go to "Data Execution Prevention" click "add" then click the down arrow at the top and find where you installed the game. Then in the folder select "setup.exe". If this is still complicated then I will make a video about it. If its not showing up then "verify the game files" feature in Steam.

By the way, anyone copying this to help people in discussion is fine, but you gotta give credit to where it came from. Have a nice day everyone.
