Keyboard-using Ravens! A Decent Control Scheme
By Lyyti
Are you a mouse and keyboard user like me? Are the default bindings not to your liking? The default bindings aren't too bad, but they can be improved if you rearrange a couple things!

I've 100%ed multiple AC games on controller, and I've used a similar keyboard control scheme to this for Dark Souls 1, 2, and 3; Sekiro; Elden Ring; Metal Gear Rising; and Monster Hunter.

Control Scheme References
With some rearrangement, this game works really well with mouse and keyboard. The following gif is recorded from keyboard gameplay!

Feel free to mix and match the following control references, particularly Type A and B.

This control scheme is the primary control scheme I've been using. It places all four weapons onto the mouse so they can be used simultaneously and used continuously while moving.

Keep in mind that 'Boost' is used to ease yourself out of walking mode, while 'Quick Boost' is explicitly the dash button.

Shift Operation (which is always used in combination with other keys) is placed on Ctrl so it can easily be held down while pressing another key.

This alternative moves the two boosts to the thumb buttons. This is somewhat inspired by the Type B control scheme in Armored Core 4, which placed the boost onto one of the triggers. The two shoulder weapons are moved to Shift and Ctrl so they can still be held down while moving. I also swapped the repair and scan buttons as an example, since either placement would work well.

Shift Operation can be stacked onto the E key in this layout, since Assault Boost is now on the mouse.

This layout is for if your mouse lacks thumb buttons. The shoulder weapons are placed on R and F so they can be relatively easy to access while also having access to WASD.

Shift Operation (which is always used in combination with other keys) is kept on Ctrl so it can easily be held down while pressing another key.
Ingame Screenshot Reference
Here's a screenshot of all the bindings for Type A, in case you're unsure where the bindings are.

Tweaks for Mouse Control
By default, this game controls very well with a mouse. Keep in mind you can adjust these two things, however:

Partway through Chapter 1, you unlock OS Tuning in the AC customization menu. One of the tuning options is a manual aiming unlockable, which lets you hold down the target button (middle click) to switch to manual aiming. This works well with distant targets outside of your lock range, especially if they're idling due to being unalerted.

I use an ingame mouse sensitivity of about 2 with 400 DPI, this feels similar to my sensitivity that I use in FPS games. Feel free to try lowering this setting to whatever feels comfortable when you use manual aim.

Type B for Core Expansion lets you press F and middle click together in order to use your core expansion, which is an easier combination to press than ctrl+F or E+F since it uses both hands at once.

My mouse has a left and right button on the scroll wheel. They work great for left and right shoulder.

V - Fucking huh? With this wall of brick below me? Dear diary? Thankfully we can scroll it off just like someone can scroll me.

OP... fantastic job. I'm greatly appreciative of the effort you put into this. Seriously, no troll. Take my points and thanks again.

Just testing it a second time though, I will definitely admit the mouse camera control in this is absolutely top notch - that's the place most games I use a controller for fail miserably. If you can't naturally control your camera and the "feel" isn't right, everything else you do is going to be shitty. ACVI nailed the mouse feel imo.

I still prefer a controller, but... like I said, that's the fail point of most games. The translation to mouse control.

Though, I can imagine it'd be a bit of a pain to find decent keybinds if you were stuck only using mouse and keyboard. Utilizing the mouse buttons helps me massively in a lot of games where I can't stand a controller... they're easy to forget about, but if you're using that control scheme, having a couple extra mouse buttons is just so damn good, and no player should ever forget they exist! (if you have a mouse with them... if you don't - get your ass a good mouse already. wtf are you doing?)

I didn't particularly mind the keyboard and mouse controls until I actually tried dual analog sticks (it's just an Xbox One controller, nothing fancy) but I can't go back now. There are certain game types that lend themselves to certain control types, and analog in this is just a fantastic feel.

That said, I can imagine the mouse being quite good for aiming on manual. Outside of manual targeting (as in, the OS upgrade) I don't think I would enjoy it very much. I tend to try keyboard and mouse first, like any self-respecting PC gamer (lol settle down, I'm joking... about the last part of that statement, but sometimes it's just hard to go back. SOMETIMES it IS just a matter of "getting used to" something, but sometimes it's not.

I won't pretend I know which this game is, haha. It's just, you're piloting, and in games where I drive or pilot, analog controls translate far better.

I still use the default control with minor changes (such as shoulder weapons on thumb buttons, and alternative look/arm weapons/target controls on the numpad). But I like the alternatives you have here :D

Great recommendation. Helped me out all the way through the game to NG++.
