Before starting, This is all the software we are gonna need:

A copy of PROTOTYPE:

Rivatuner statistics server (this will help us to set a FPS cap if necessary):

Equalizer APO (this program will help us to hear the game better, since this game has some audio issues):

With that out of the way, let's begin with the quality of life improvements!

There's a mod that lets you change the resolution and add a custom FOV.

I will show you how to install it.

Click on “Download the file”


Click on “Agree & Download” and download the file called “Prototype.all_.Resolutions.and_.higher.FOV_.7z”

Extract the archive in a folder, the password is “pcgw”.



There are 3 folders you can choose from. I will use “all resolutions and higher FOV”, but you can use the file you find more fitting (the only difference between the folders is how high the FOV is).

Remember to back up the original “prototypeenginef.dll” from your game files (you can find the file on your games main folder, you can also right click the game and go to “Manage” and “browse local files”).


Replace the “prototypeenginef.dll” original file with the one of the mod.

And there! you will have all the Resolutions and FOV changes you need.


The game has a really bad framerate problem, you will need another mod to fix this.

Do the exact same steps as the other mod i explained before, the archive does not have a password.

Put the file called “dinput8.dll” in your main game folder (exactly the same place as the other mod)

If this fix still doesn't work for you (which i think it will not) there's a video that tells you how to fix the low fps (+ crashes)

Basically, you will need to go to your device manager, and you will need to disable all of the HID compliant consumer control devices (you just right click on each of the devices, and select “disable device” in each one of them)

And with that, your game will run smoothly.


The Audio of the game has some problems, here's the explanation that PC gaming wiki tells you on the page of this game:


To fix this problem, we will need a software called “Equalizer APO” (the installation is simple, just remember to select your audio devices, and that the program is installed in C:\Program Files\EqualizerAPO, so that you can make a shortcut)

Use the EXE called “editor.exe” to open the program.

When you enter the program, you will find this window:


We will use the base configuration.

Click on the “+” symbol thats down of the “Graphic EQ” setting, go to “advanced filters” and select “Loudness correction”

After this, put the “Gain” in “Preamplification” to the setting you like, i will choose 18,80db and in “loudness correction” i will put -8db in “Reference level” and -13db in “reference offset” (for me, this is a good level of audio for the game)

Also, remember that these settings affect all the audio of your computer all the time, not just in the game, so, if you still want to do something else in it without your ears being blasted, you will need to change these settings to default.

To end this guide, I would recommend you play this game with a controller, since playing it with mouse and keyboard is just awful, i would recommend you use a xbox controller, since it's the only one you can use. I tried playing with my old xbox one controller, and it works perfectly!
