Part 1: Just starting
So you just spawned in your first terraria world! Birds chirping, music playing and a mysterious figure hiding on the moon, regenerating his power.... But first things first! You need to know the keybinds!

Click here for the controls (From the official terraria wiki) [terraria.wiki.gg]

I also recommend going to the pause menu (bottom right of inventory) and going to controls and messing with the keybinds a little

Ok so you know the controls now! You start with 3 items, a Copper shortsword, a Copper axe and a copper pickaxe, one or more of the items you have may have a modifier, such as "Demonic Copper Axe" or "Shoddy copper shortsword". Modifiers give bonuses or downsides to your weapons, you can see what they give by hovering above the weapon/tool. You can re-roll these modifiers later after you defeat the goblin army and save the bound goblin in the caverns.

Use your copper axe to cut down some trees, kill some slimes with your shortsword and then go to inventory. at the bottom left, you will see items, this is the crafting menu, make the workbench with 12 wood and place it down.

Remember, if you ever wanna craft something, place the crafting station down. go near it and open your inventory and at the bottom left it should allow you to use the station (giving new items to craft). Anyway, make a house like the one in the image (you make chairs, doors and walls (the darker part in the background of the house) at a workbench)

For a house to be considered a livable, you need to have decent house size, 3 torches minimum, background walls, a door and no holes in the house. Without houses NPC's cannot move in, you need NPC's for merchants who sell stuff, fishing quests, world corruption checker etc.

Build 2 or more houses so the merchant and guide can move in (and other NPC's if you built more than 2 houses)

After you build the house, continue to Part 2
Part 2: Choose your path!
Ok, dear reader, it is time for you to choose one of the most important things in the game.... YOUR CLASS! Classes basically determine what weapons, accessories and armor you use! Here are the 4 classes in the game

Melee: Uses all weapons that do melee damage, does high damage and high defense but usually takes a lot of damage.

Ranger: Uses guns, bows or launchers. Can deal quick and effective damage at a range, they have decent defense.

Mage: Mage's use magic attacks and can do a ton of damage at a range, but they need mana to do their attacks, they have lower defense than ranger and melee.

Summoner: Can do a lot of damage if done correctly, summons minions and uses whips, their defense is the worst out of the 4, but you don't really attack as this class, you really just try to dodge attacks and watch your minions kill the enemy.

Ok so whatever class you wanna go, go to the specified part to see what you should do next!
Melee class
Your going melee? Solid choice! Here is what you should do...

Chop down some more trees and return to your workbench, then craft full wooden armor and a wooden sword, after that is done, look for some caves on the sides of mountains, take anything, here are things you should look for most! (Also take everything from these chests, you will need them!)

  • Wooden Boomerang
  • Spear
  • Climbing Claws
  • Hermes boots

If you cannot find any of these, its fine, continue to next paragraph.

Underground or in caves, you can find stone and iron/lead ore, Iron/lead can be used to make armor and weapons, stone can be used for a lot, but right now you should use it to make a furnace.

Go to the guide, talk to him, select "crafting" and then at the bottom left, place your stone in the little area and scroll down to the furnace to see how its made and where to make it, then craft a furnace and place it. Remember this feature with the guide.

Then smelt your iron/lead, and do the same thing you did to find out how to make the furnace, but with lead/iron bars this time! After you make the anvil, make armor and weapons. If anything, make Iron, Lead, Gold or Platinum armor (Gold and Platinum are best) because tin is terrible, so is wooden armor.

If you got the Wooden boomerang:
Talk to the guide and put in the wooden boomerang in the crafting option, you'll see you can upgrade it!! Get fallen stars at night and make the enchanted boomerang!

Now head to part 3.
Ranger class
Hm, you picked ranger? A great pick! Here is what you should do now...

Well, start of the game, you cannot get launchers sadly, you can get bows and guns though!

Pick a subclass, there are 2 sub classes with ranger, Gunner and archer.

Gunner subclass:
This class and easily obliterate many enemies early game but slowly balances out mid-late game!
First, chop down some trees, make wooden armor at the workbench you made and make a wooden bow (Temporary bow) and some wooden arrows, also find some bombs and combine them with gel to make sticky bombs, then find the red or purple biome in your world (Purple is corruption, Red is crimson) and don't die! It may be hard but the hard work will pay off! Run down to the cave area or one of the huge holes (Depending on the evil biome) and look for some orb looking things, their usually located in the ground in holes. (Here are pictures of them)

Right now, you are unable to break Crimson/Corruption blocks, but good thing you brung bombs! Throw the bombs at the crimson blocks and crimson heart/Corruption Orb and it will drop the undertaker and 100 musket balls! Also remember to build houses until a guy called the "Arms Dealer" moves in, then you can buy bullets from him and a exclusive gun, The minishark! (Also do not buy the flintlock pistol from him! It sucks!!!)

After this is all done, go down some caves and look in chests, try to find Hermes Boots and mine some iron/lead! Then follow this these steps to make a furnace!

After you make the anvil, make armor.

Bow subclass: Make a wooden bow at a workbench and make some arrows too with wood. Then go into the mines, search chests and mine all ores you come across, then go up to the surface and make a furnace and smelt all your ore, then make an anvil (see how to make it at the guide) and after making that, make a better bow (best is a gold/platinum bow)

Make the best armor and bow you can, then craft some torches and make as many fire arrows as possible (or Jester arrows with stars, fire arrows are easier though)

Continue to part 3!
Mage Class
You picked mage? That's great! I picked mage too!

For a mage, the start of the game consists of mining sadly, you need gems to make staves, also while your down there, get iron/lead, you will need it! Anyway, here are pictures of what the gems look like underground! (Pictures were taken from the Terraria Fandom)

Here are the available staves you can make and their tiers

Tier one staves:
  • Amethyst Stave
  • Sapphire Stave
  • Topaz Stave

Tier two stave:

  • Emerald Stave

Tier three staves:

  • Amber Stave
  • Ruby Stave
  • Diamond Stave

Also are you unsure on how where and how to make these staves? Ask the guide!
Here is how you can get crafting tips from the guide!

  • Go to guide and talk to him
  • Bottom left, place the item you wanna know what you can make with it
  • Scroll on the area where it shows items, it will show where to make them and what you need.

Now you need to use your iron/lead bars to make an anvil and some armor, but to get iron/lead bars to make the armor, you need to smelt the ore, you need a furnace to smelt the ore, here is how to make one!

After you make the anvil, make armor

Summoner class!
So, You chose summoner? Great Choice!!! If you have all the time in the world, then this is the class for you! because at the start of your journey, you will be farming and grinding for a while!! here are some basic items that shouldn't be hard to get.

Snapthorn
Flinx Fur Coat
Flinx Staff

Snapthorn will require an abundance of farming in the jungle as it needs 15x stingers gained from killing bees/wasps, 3 vines, and 12 jungle spores

First, you should focus on getting the snapthorn, its a whip which makes it so your summons will attack the enemy you hit with the whip, to create this, you will need the following

  • 15 Stingers (From killing bees/wasps in the jungle)
  • 3 vines (By breaking vines in the jungle, has a chance to drop)
  • 12 Jungle Spores (Those glowing things in the underground jungle)

Once you are done with that, talk to the guide to see where to make that stuff!

After that you need to obtain the flinx stuff, flinx are found deep in the underground snow biome, they look like little balls of fluff, don't let their appearance fool you though, as they are evil fluff balls of doom.

To make the flinx staff you'll need

  • 6 Flinx Fur (From killing flinx)
  • 10 Gold/Platinum Bars

and to make the Flinx coat you'll need

  • 10 Silk (Get from turning cobweb into silk, at a loom)
  • 1 Flinx fur
  • 8 Gold/Platinum Bars

You obtain a loom by using wood at a sawmill, you make a sawmill by using chains, wood and iron/lead at a workbench, you get chains by using iron/lead at a workbench.

Also go deep in the caves and try to get these items

  • Hermes boots
  • Anglet
  • Cloud in a bottle

go to step 3!!
Part 3: "You feel an evil presence watching you..."
Ok, so whatever class you picked, you should have your weapon(s) and armor(s) and be ready to fight the very first boss of Terraria! I'm not gonna say its name since it's an exciting boss! Bosses in Terraria need certain requirements to be met for them to spawn. For this boss, you need to use an item at night so they can spawn.

Step 1: Preparation

Try to build an arena for the boss battle so you can dodge the attacks easier, I found this image on the Terraria Fandom[terraria.fandom.com], try to build an arena like this!

Step 2: Murder of the demon eyes!

In order to make the boss summon, you need 6 lens, which you get from mercilessly slaughtering the poor innocent- What am I talking about!?! Their seriously DEMON EYES! There is no reason to NOT kill them! Ahem, anyway! Kill them until you have obtained 6 lens and head over to your evil biome! (The red/purple biome in your world)

Step 3: BOSS BATTLE!

Now, go in the caves/holes in your evil biome until you find a mysterious glowing table-looking thing, craft at it and make the "Suspicious looking eye", then go back to base, wait until night, go to your arena and GET READY TO FIGHT!!!

Part 4: What now??
After you've killed the eye of Cthulhu, he drops a bunch of crimane ore (or an exclusive accessory on expert or higher) on kill

You can use this ore get a bunch of gold (for mini-shark, if ranger) or to get crimane armor/tools, crimane armor is really good since it gives high HP regen.

And that's about it for this guide! If you want to know where to go next, try going in the underground crimson/corruption and break (in total) 3 orbs/hearts and make sure you have an arena!

Remember, the Terraria wiki and YouTube tutorials are all at your fingertips, Do not hesitate to use them!!

(I made this guide like 2 years ago, I never fully finished it though, only got to part 3 and gave up, this is the completed version, hoped this helped someone!!)

you only need 1 light source, its why those 9*5 boxes with just enough space for a person, workbench and chair can exist, otherwise, pretty good guide
