Requirements
OLMod (the latest version can be found here: https://olmod.overloadmaps.com/)

To know how to setup OLMod, please see this guide by Roncli:

Graphics Settings
The following graphics options are suggested for multiplayer gameplay:

  • Field of View: Set this to 90 (that’s the maximum) so it can give a larger view and situational awareness in multiplayer
  • Shadows: Preferably set this to none; this may cause a performance penalty
  • Under Advanced options (anything that is not mentioned is upto the player’s preferences):
    • Anisotropic Filter: ON
    • Ambient Occlusion: OFF
    • Bloom: LOW
    • Post-Processing: OFF
    • Screen Space Reflections: OFF
    • Lens Flares: OFF
    • Texture Resolution: LOW
    • Reduced Shaders: ON

Notes:
  • Texture resolution is recommended to be low because the ships have a damage texture. That texture gets gradually overlayed the less health a player has.
so you can tell how low a player is by looking at their ship "bumpiness". lowering the texture resolution makes this easier to see. (Credits to Luponix for this)
  • I changed my Texture setting to LOW for the above reason😅

I have attached the screenshots of my configuration.
Control Options
NOTE: anything that is not mentioned is up to the player’s preferences.
  • Auto-Leveling: OFF
  • Aim Assist: OFF
  • Advanced Options:
    • Movement Speed Config: Trichord (see the notes below this)
  • Configure Auto-Select:
    • Status: ACTIVE
    • Weapon Logic: OFF
    • Missile Logic: ON
    • Alert: ON

IMPORTANT!
The following formula applies for mouse sensitivity

1x = 1.33y

Please set an appropriate value with respect to the above ratio to have a more balanced ship handling.

Notes:
  • Mouse and Keybinds and joystick options are again upto the preferences of the player.
  • TUTORIALS:
    • Tutorial can be found here: https://youtu.be/L5KK21bGPPo
    • Dodging and Sphere Strafing tutorial can be found here: https://youtu.be/TRRDSVuToP8
    • Working around blind spots and being attacked from the rear: https://youtu.be/DNOiZPR3Z8E
    • The above links explain Trichording, a technique where the yaw, pitch and roll can help in maneuvering well.
    • The Box Dodging and Sphere Strafing tutorials can help with getting clear of enemy projectiles, may be useful in tight spaces
    • a note about that instead of cycling through weapon groups you can also bind both keyslots which then switches the behaviour to allow you to select a single weapon per key (Credits: Luponix)

  • AUTOSELECT NOTES:
    • Missile logic can help in quickly swapping to powerful missiles such as Devastators, Novas, Timebombs and Vortex.
    • “Alert” will display a message to the user that the Devastator has been selected.

I have attached my control configuration to the guide.
Cockpit and HUD Options
  • Camera Shake: OFF
  • Cockpit Sway: NONE
  • Show Rear View Camera: ON

I have attached my settings to the guide.
Multiplayer Options
These options are very important since this guide focuses on multiplayer gameplay:

  • Damage Blur Intensity: 0
  • Damage Color Intensity: 0
  • Ship Explosion Effects: Reduced
  • Individual Player Colors: ON

VERY IMPORTANT! LAG COMPENSATION:

This setting will help in playing better when the pings are greater than 50-100ms. The game gets more responsive and gives a better chance when pings may be bad for you.

  • 1. LAG COMPENSATION: ON
  • 2. Use Advanced Settings: ON
    • Max Ping To Compensate for Ship: 250
    • Max Ping To Compensate for Weapons: 250
    • Weapon Lag Compensation Scale: 100
    • Ship Lag Compensation Scale: 100

NOTES:
  • Lag compensation is a double edged sword. unless your connection is perfect setting it to 250 will lead to very skippy ships so advice to newcomers is always to set max ping to high, then play a bunch and once you notice the skipping disrupting your tracking/adjusting to then regulate it down. this usually brings it to around 80-100 which is around the default settings. (Credits: Luponix)
  • Limit ships diving into walls is also useful to reduce the length of the skips that happen due to collisions but you dont just want to max that out either because it would otherwise stop the motion of the ship till the next packet arrives and so you end up with a movement into a dead stop into a movement which is equally disruptive as maxing out the "max ping to compensate for". So what you should set this to is dependent on what ping you play at at the most but a value of 60-70 should be a relatively safe bet. (Credits: Luponix)

I have attached my configuration to the guide.
REMEMBER!
Have fun! Public games happen often, and they are fun! You’ll get better over time, and probably have a lot of fun while doing so!
Additional: My Control Binds
These are the keybinds that I use for multiplayer.

A quick note from Chugg (a player on team Sorry Guys):

"Warning, the active & strongest players use wildly different configurations. There are many inputs for Overload, and any set of keybindings will have a weakness. Try different options and ask players what they use."
