- One is just moving from one path to a different one, or stuff like that - LOCALLY. They will mostly be marked by a post of some kind, and the confirmation text will say that you're moving to higher or to lower ridge, or smth like that. Those are two-way (always, or nearly always(?)) and can be crossed back and forth freely.
- The other sort of waypoint takes you from one main valley to a different one, or from one peak to somewhere far away, that kind of thing. The hint for this will mostly be Moira saying smth like 'this will take me 3 hours then" or smth to indicate it will take significant time. Those waypoints are nearly always one-way! So be careful about when you choose them, if you feel you're done with your present valley/local area/'layer' for now. If you do take it, and you regret doing it pretty fast, then you can reload an earlier autosave (se menu/settings page for a handful of recent autosaves you can choose from).
" ... You keep things on your next playthrough, so a little shopping on one run can pay off much later. (Oddly Moira doesn't question why she suddenly has a crowbar in her pocket on the next life...) ..."
That isn't quite true. In early runs you only get to keep SOME of your items from one run to the next - but NOT all of them.
In later runs (not sure if the cutoff point is after x runs, or x hrs played, or whatever), you get to keep everything in your inventory from one run to the next, and the 'summary text' at the end of a run, will tell you that you get to keep all your items.
Thanks a lot for this!
