Stable FPS across the game - NVIDIA
By JaxomXMGR
Do you have a computer build over the recommended one but still experience crazy slow downs in your FPS counts during cutscenes and explorations? Well, this simple guide may help you with those hiccups.

Note: this guide is describing the process for NVIDIA GPUs, if you have an AMD or Intel GPU, it will still help you, but you'll have to slightly adapt the process for your software and hardware environment. 😉

Introduction
As many people have pointed out here and there on the web, this game can behave pretty poorly (botched port, too old for its own good, etc., many reasons are brought up).
One of the problematic behaviours I came across quite fast was the following one: FPS stability.

What caracterizes this issue?
During cutscenes, you'll see the walking animations, camera movements and other details that should supposedly be fluid slow down, then get back to normal speed again and again, giving a kind of rubberbending feeling. It will also happen on exploration, mostly when combining movement and camera rotations.

What's the cause?
I won't dig into the details too much, but let's say that's caused by the game engine, struggling to find the right pace between what the game tells it to do, and your hardware (that could push the game's setting above what they are planned for).

What's the solution?
Easy: cap your frames at 60 per second. Not more, not less.

How do we do that?
Keep reading, it'll take you around 30 seconds and you'll be set for good.
NVIDIA Control Panel
First, locate and launch the NVIDIA Control Panel icon and double click on it.

It will open a the NVIDIA Control Panel window.
From there, select the "Manage the 3D settings" item from the "3D settings" menu (1), then click on the "Software settings" tab (2).

From the dropdown list, locate and select STAR OCEAN - THE LAST HOPE (if you can't find it in the list, you can add it manually through the "Add" button located on the right).

Scroll down the list of parameters until you find the "Maximum frames per seconds" setting and click on it.

Change the "Use the default setting" to "Activate" (1) and set the limite to 60 (2), then validate by clicking the "OK" button.

Make sure the new setting has been well registered and showing the 60FPS limitation (1) and finalize the operation by hitting the "Apply" button (2).

That's it, you're all set. 😉

Sure, as long as it helps people there's absolutely no issues in sharing it. :nyahhp:

I linked your guide to a post in the SODF forums. Hope that's okay?

Basically, it's a trick for a lot of games that were developed at this time of video game history. A lot of video games engines were meant to work at 60fps, especially in Japan.

This trick DOES work for Star Ocean Divine Force! You're a life saver, my guy.

I wonder if this would work for Divine Force as well...
